Sure glad I ran across your channel Larry. I’ve used the MW sealer technique on a few bowls that weren’t punky necessarily but not sanding out like I wanted. I put it on heavy and wet sanded with 320. Mixed results at best. Do you have a video showing wet sanding similar to what I mentioned? Thank you for sharing many of your techniques. You’re an inspiration and a great teacher.
Did you make a slurry? You should dry sand only. If you wet sand and if your sealer is water-based, the water will dissolve the sealer and you will not be able to see the shiny spots. You must sand the shiny spots out. If you can't sand them out, you have to reapply your slurry and resand after it has dried overnight. This is the only video on the subject. I hope I have helped you, if you are still unclear or have questions, just let me know. Larry
Larry, I thoroughly enjoy all of your work...and appreciate it. You have helped me more than you will ever know. It looks like you get good service out of your random orbital sander and I'd appreciate it if you would relay what make it is (and maybe where you got it). I love to turn but I'm continually searching to find something that takes a little of the misery out of sanding and finishing.
I can't believe I didn't answer your comment. I thought I saw them all. Better late than never, I guess. I think the sander comes from Harbor Freight. Not real sure, but I think so.
Larry, I like the finish on the bowl. If someone did'nt have a buffer like yours, could they still get this result from hand buffing? or grinder attachment? Do you have any ideas as to how it could be achieved without a buffer? I'd like to try it.
Is there a way to buff the inside of the bowls? I take it these two didn't need to be buffed inside, but some of mine are a little rough inside and it shows through the finish. I've seen others use a sort of ball shaped buffing wheel. Here's an idea for a short video. How about showing the safe way to buff. I see you know how it's done but some others could get hurt or damage their project if they don't know the safety tricks. Just a thought.
Hi, new subscriber here. This is MinWax *water-based* sanding sealer, right? I seem to remember you saying that in your previous video. Anyway, it's an interesting technique that works great!
Hey Karl, welcome. Yes it is Minwax sanding sealer. i get mine at Amazon. Lot cheaper than Lowe's. I tried oil based sealers. They were slow drying and messey. Clean up was a B#$#. Take care, Larry
Larry, I am just a simple Iclandic soul, and don't guite understand what you where doing. Was it something that came up after you'd done it last time? Júlíus
I am in the process of editing a video now. It should be finished in a few days. Going is slow because I hate editing. I am still down with my back and can't stand at the lathe for more than 10 minutes at a time. Oh well, I am going to keep trying. Thanks and take care, Larry
i am so glad to hear that i started to make one but they sell them a standing up chair .i was at the shop about 3 wks ago it was dark i started walking towards the house felt so bad i could hardly make and few feet from the shop i tript on a block of wood came down hard on my side rib poped i just raised up and sat there and cried grap give me a break.thats the way the mop flops sometime. o l;ook forward to seeing you next video. i wondered to about the naked turned i mess him hes going thur hard times to . anyhow catch you later

Yeah I got the buffer to do, but I don't like using it. It's easier to spray or wipe it in. I will show some safety issues next time. Take care, Larry
