    I’m close to 56 years old and I grew up with ABBA. Quite literally from when ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo. As much as my musical taste changed as I reached my mid-teens, ABBA’s music has never left me and I still listen to them regularly. ABBA was also the reason why I fell in love with Scandinavia, especially Sweden. Mostly I listen to Scandinavian Heavy Metal these days because it is the best; it is both pure and honest. May I also say that when Scandinavians speak English, their glorious accent comes to the fore. It’s wonderful. ABBA will always be the best.

To be honest I remember more of the times around when ‘Arrival’ was released, but my mum reminds me quite often how I’d be dancing and singing to their earlier stuff with family when I was 6. Apparently I’d put my hands on my hips and move from side to side while singing to Waterloo.😇 Happy days.

    From the very start the interviewers were inaccurate by stating she walked away from the business after Abba ended. Agnetha had a nice solo career throughout the rest of the 80s. The title of the video is not too much better as it is clickbait because she stated the PRESS blamed her (not the public). But I don't recall anyone blaming her. And finally, it was the entire group that said it doesn't feel good anymore to continue. Not just Agnetha.

    • @gustaaf1892
      @gustaaf1892 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Almost every band/group has a limited lifespan and regardless of personal relationships, ABBA's was clearly coming to an end. There are only so many high quality songs the vast majority of songwriters can create and the quality of ABBA songs was in decline in the 80s. Bands can hurt their legacy by dragging things out for as long as they can just for the money. The ones that do invariably rely on playing their old material when performing Live. ABBA were mainly a recording and lip-sync TV act and only played live concerts sporadically. They probably retired the band at the right time imo.

      @chelseacharger 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@gustaaf1892 It's often said ABBA didn't tour much and compared to some other big groups it's true. However, they did perform over 200 concerts between 1973 and 1980. They toured comparatively little primarily because they all had children. All four and particularly the older three had toured extensively in previous bands or as soloists during the 1960's. From the mid 70's, Benny and Björn also had an attitude that the time was better spent writing and recording new songs. It's certainly not because they couldn't play live. I saw them at Wembley in 1979 and they were excellent.
      But of course, they did plenty TV shows around the world and on them they were more often than not promoting their latest album and singles off it. So they would naturally want the audience to hear the recorded song, not a live version. On top of this, it was simply impractical to drag their full backing band around from studio to studio abroad to only perform one or a couple of songs. Some countries, like the UK and Australia also had union rules with regard to employing local musicians on top of a usual touring band. But ABBA did sing live even on some TV shows.
      I do agree with you that it is best to quit on a relative high instead of dragging it out. ABBA's final albums in 1981 and 1982 both went to number one. The long break probably helped to cultivate the group's mystique and legend.

      @@chelseacharger 200 live shows over 7 years is far more than I would have guessed because that amounts to an average of about one every two weeks. She certainly had a unique and beautiful voice and she also had the musical talent to go along with it. Couple that with her incredible eye appeal and she was a real powerhouse. Anna-Frid was equally beautiful and talented as well, so it's no wonder that they reached such an incredible level of super-stardom. There've been a lot of ABBA tribute bands that I've heard and none of them can come anywhere close to recreating the magic that Agnetha and Anna-Frid generated on stage. About Frida. I always found her personality to be aloof & frosty. She always came across as more of a businesswoman than a singer singing about love. When she sang, her voice sounded harder too. She just didn't put her emotions of singing with her heart & soul like Agnetha did. I found Frida just very ordinary. Regardless of how Frida got into the band, it was clearly fate that put her there. Her voice was very much like Agnetha's and blended with it perfectly. She was the perfect yin to Agnetha's yang. Agnetha gets blamed as the media saw that she was the most negative about towards ABBA of the core four. The media kinda filled in the narrative.
    Although Frida was upset over Benny, it was not a deal breaker concerning ABBA. She had always been positive and wishful about ABBA starting up again - perhaps after BB and Tim Rice finish writing musical.
    After CHESS concept album (1984) was completed. 'One Night In Bangkok ' promo video was shot. Murray Head singing lead. And ABBA "singing" backup vocals. It was just for promo.
    Actually it 3/4 of ABBA and a stand-in for Agnetha.
    Anni-Frid Lyngstad
    Benny Anderson
    Bjorn Ulverus
    Karen Glenmark
    This is why Agnetha took the hit in the media. I am sure Agnetha was asked by BB to be part of CHESS/One Night In Bangkok photo op/video.

    I don't think anyone blames Agnetha. I think it's fairly evident that all four ABBA members needed a break from each other. The two men were making no secret that they wanted to 'try something else' and Frida recorded her 'Something's Going On' album not long after 'The Visitors' was released. Agnetha did not walk away from music either. She recorded solo albums during the 80's and even travelled to Los Angeles to record 'I Stand Alone'. It was always the endless promotion that took the group away from home Going solo allows the artist to do things a little more at their own pace and have a better work / home lifestyle balance.

    I can't believe the invasive questions this TV host slams into her while she's merely trying to promote her album. First of all, how dare he ask about her private life, and secondly, these are events from decades ago. The main reason she walked away was to raise her young children, as it killed her to be away from them on long tours. But really, the nerve of this guy to cheerfully ask if she found it difficult to be onstage with Bjorn during their divorce. Of COURSE it was difficult, you bozo, and thanks so much for bringing it up!

And also she has been asked these same questions a million times in other interview through the years, when ABBA reunited to release their latest album in 2021, she refused to do any publicity to promote it and I don't blame her.
      So I hope you're right that she agreed to talk about those subjects, because I think it's disrespectful to ask such personal things to someone you don't even know. By her own actions, words it was somewhat justified.

      No Agnetha.

      The informed know ABBA never officially broke up in 1982. They were on a break. Perhaps after BB wrote their musical (CHESS) they would be back. That was the hope. But you have to have ALL four core yes for that to happen..
      Everyone knew Frida loved being part of ABBA. She wanted to group to be whole again and recording. Her comments, actions, ABBA legacy appearances, continued fan engagement, etc... signified her positive position and attitude towards ABBA.
      It was always Agnetha that seemed to be the 'No'! Vote. Her actions and words always signified her position.
      _____
      Of the entire Polar Music Team it has always been Frida and Gorel Hanser that have been the "rocks".

      Also, listen to this interview when she brings up Frida and Benny's divorce and everyone being sad.
      Yes. Of course everyone is sad. Those two were that groups romantic and sexy couple. But, their break up did not sour Frida on ABBA returning and recording more music.
      It is like she is acknowledging her want of letting ABBA go and trying to tag Frida has having the same position as Agnetha.
      That has never been Frida's position. Frida has always been resilient and her divorce with Benny, although tragic, did not diminish her wanting ABBA to continue.

    BJORN, wrote “The Winner Takes It All”!! He stated in MULTIPLE interviews that “it was an expression of how HE felt about the divorce”, and wanted Agnetha to “be the one to sing it”!! (“@SSHOLE MOVE”!!) In MY eyes…It was a “slap to the face” for Agnetha!! However, being the CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONAL that she was, and STILL IS, she poured ALL HER (at the time) “current emotions”, as well as her ASTOUNDING VOCAL CAPABILITIES into “recording the song”, the “making of the video”, and in “EVERY SUBSEQUENT ‘PUBLIC’ PERFORMANCE OF IT”!!
    Although I “envied” Agnetha’s “looks and vocal talent” as an “awkward and impressionable young girl with ‘similarly blonde hair’,” FRIDA was EQUALLY as “beautiful and talented” in HER “OWN “RIGHT”!! Without the “two of them”, there WOULD BE, NO “ABBA”!! Bjorn HIMSELF, stated in interviews, included in the “mockumentary” 1977 film, “ABBA: The Movie” (filmed while on their 1977 cross-continent Australian tour; with “some footage” being filmed later that year in Stockholm), that “what made ‘ABBA’, distinctly ‘ABBA’…was ‘the combination of the voices of the girls…’!!” Though Agnetha was often “given lead vocals” on MANY ABBA songs, FRIDA ALSO “SANG LEAD VOCALS”!! (“Hello!! ‘Fernando’ and ‘Money, Money, Money”!!) Agnetha has been quoted in interviews, that “because our vocals were so similar, if one of us felt ‘sick’ while performing live, the OTHER would ‘sing more loudly’!!” (Thus, “becoming the ‘lead vocalist’!!”)
    I suggest you listen to “I am an ‘A’!!” The “guys” wrote the song; which “describes the ‘unique personalities and quirks’ of each of them”!! Agnetha’s “happy place” was “at home, going to sleep early”; while Frida “craved ‘fame, fortune and the spotlight’!!” “They” ALL “wanted different things in life”, and IMHO, THIS was potentially the “reason for their subsequent divorces”!!
    Catherine, Florida
