Omg, those vacuum cleaners, orange hair dryer and "Farel" heater was part of my youth. I almost burnt a house because of it:) and those ice cream always when i was coming back home from school:) even books-in every house the same ones^^ amazing Vigo! You reminded me of old times:)

I was born in 1980, so I remember the decline of so called "people's republic". Most of the western goods (toys, electronisc, jeans etc ), expensive AF, were available only in a chain of goveremental shops called "Pewex". Sometimes on the black market.

Najlepsze lody to były lody BAMBINO na patyku. Śmietankowe lub czekoladowe. Lody Śnieżki to już bardziej piana, niż lody.
Ta oranżada jest produkowana w Warszawie w zakładzie na Olszynce Grochowskiej (Praga-południe), produkuje je firma Ronisz. Mają też między innymi colę grochowską i tonik grochowski - wszystkie te napoje są na bazie wody źródlanej. Produkowane w tym zakładzie od 1948 roku, wciąż według tej samej receptury i smakują DOKŁADNIE tak samo jak w dzieciństwie. Do kupienia w lokalnych warszawskich sklepach i lokalach z jedzeniem, polecam się rozejrzeć i spróbować. Znam osobę, która kupuje te oranżady skrzynkami bezpośrednio na miejscu w ich sklepie ;). Mają stronę na fejsie - Oranżada Tradycyjna Olszynka.
Guma arabska to klej. Jestem rocznik 79, więc coś tam pamiętam z tych czasów. Np. to, że przez pierwsze lata w szkole wszyscy obowiązkowo nosiliśmy mundurki szkolne - granatowe z białymi kołnierzykami odpinanymi do prania.
PS. Jak będziesz w Berlinie, koniecznie zobacz muzeum NRD. Bardzo podobny klimat, ale bardziej na bogato, bo oni stali lepiej ekonomicznie, niż PRL.
I thought that it was glue. Also it kind of looks like a bottle of glue. But then I grew up in the '60s. Just not in Poland.
And I thought that other thing was a vacuum cleaner :-)

Great video. I was there about 1 year ago and it really impacted me as someone born and raised in the USA. Polish people are strong! Most Poles I know are not materialistic and for Poles growing up in those times, I think it made them even more resilient. 🇵🇱🇺🇸

I loved that moment as well. Although I think we are more and more used to modern museums which are very interactive and you can touch and test everything. I would probably touch it as well 😅

My birthday is December 29, 1980. We are similar age, I think. Unless you were born in 1981. Anyway, my girlfriend is Polish. We're in a long-distance relationship, as I live in Canada. I am visiting her for 3 months in the summer. I would love to stay there and live with her, but I don't see me getting a job, as I'm unskilled, uneducated, and don't speak Polish. Gosh, it's a hard language to learn. I think recently the law has changed about same sex couples, when it comes to residency, but I'm not really sure. Hopefully, I will be able to stay there, as I can't afford to travel back and forth. I realize that it's easier to immigrate to Canada, especially being a same sex couple, but she has a career, pets, and other responsibilities that keep her in Poland. That being said, I like watching your videos about Polish culture and being with a Polish woman. I think we'd both agree that they are headstrong, educated, stubborn, funny, honest, direct, resourceful, and intelligent. They are amazing women 😍.

Nie wiedziałam w ogóle ze mamy takie cudo!:D jak będę w okolicy to na pewno odwiedzę to muzeum:) Sporo tych rzeczy jeszcze pamiętam z wczesnego dzieciństwa, ale wciąż wzrusza:D Trochę tej muzyki szmuglowano z zachodu. Zresztą, bardzo dużo hitów dawnych lat to muzyka skopiowana 1:1 tylko z polskimi słowami. Ps. kogel-mogel jest boski! moja babcia robiła z cukrem waniliowym i ciemnym kakao!
Wedel was founded in 1851.
We had sweets in Poland and they were very good. Wedel is over 100 year old. Wedel products were the best.
Depending when, often we've made our own, as buying was too expensive, or just wasn't there. However cheesecake, and ice cream was available, except during the Martial Law. It was expensive though, so we didn't have it too often.

Chłopaki którzy odprowadzają to prawdziwi pasjonaci. Opowiedzą też to i owo o samej Nowej Hucie. Ostatnio też wypuścili film Zupa Nic, tam też masz takie realia lat 80
My daughter is going to this Museum on Friday. Pralka Frania, Pewex, Maszyna do szycia. Pity isn't the line for all this products. 😉 Dobry polski, ladnie mowisz juz.

Bread with softened butter and sugar was also a “backup” treat when I was growing up in the US in the 60-70s. As a little kid, I thought it was really special. Eating straight sugar? I was thrilled!
How long did it take you to learn Polish? How did you learn it? It's so difficult for English speakers. I'm guessing it's your third language, which is very impressive. My girlfriend said learning English was fairly easy.
This looks just my my wife's aunts house and her dads nowadays. Really steeping back in time but in real time. I like it :-)

I remember a lot of this stuff from my grandparents houses and from my family's stories of that time. And the Śnieżka ice cream are my dad's favourite :)

Jadało się te lody kanapki ale najbardziej pamiętam lody jak kostki masła o smaku cytrynowym- były okropne;)
My grandparents got married in the early '50 in Silesia, and for their first New Year Eve they needed to make a decision to pay to go to a party or buy a radio :D They bought the radio haha. And thet both were engineers so were quite well off.
A radio or a party? They chose the radio and probably had many parties with that radio. Smart people your grandparents! 😁

To coś w 7:26 min to guma arabska- klej. Przewracało się nakrętką do dołu i wypływała taka gęsta maź. Każde dziecko miało wśród przyborów szkolnych.

Another good video. Have not been to this museum yet. My Mom comes from the US in a few weeks and I have to renew my daughters passport in Warsaw while Mom is here. Going to take Mom to this museum. We both like museums. Driving to London after she gets here and going to museums there plus a shopping trip ;). Stores in England sell so much things like back in the US.
Looking at the toilet paper gave me PTSD flashbacks. In our tiny village we used that well into the 2000s, my butt never hurt so bad.

Never forget back in the 80s, you could still READ some of the letter on the toilet paper, the recycling was so bad. One thing for sure, you learned how to use very little, 'cause it was like a sand paper on your behind.

At the end when you asked that Lady in bar mleczny "Czy to jest Twoje?" I cringed a lot :) hahahaha! Always use Pan/Pani to other adult stranger in Poland. (Poprawnie: Czy to jest Pani?/Czy trzeba oddać butelkę ;)) Please, do not use you and you forms, this is crucial in everyday language (in family ofc you don't use it)
PS I also want to say wow, your Polish is really good and I'm impressed :D

The museum was an amazing experience. Literally a blast from the past. I also went to the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. This is also a great museum

Very informative video, next time I'm in Warszawa I'll be visiting this museum. I was a bit distracted, so I thought the ice cream sandwich was a vintage bar of soap, although it clearly says "lody", lol.

Polish dictionary. Calendar from 1985 when I actually had a Polish dictionary. Actually, it was a Polish English dictionary. I used to have two. One of them was yellow. I wonder if voice to text can spell langenshite Well that was pretty close. I'm not sure of the exact spelling myself. I'm figuring it's German.
