I'm sorry I called you Norm/Norman the entire time, I honestly didn't realize it was Noam. I think you got back at me by showing my inability to use headphones 🤣 You and I have a different perspective but I think we had a productive conversation. I certainly learned things, I think you did too, and I think we are both better off for it. I look forward to talking to you again, hopefully next time not on three hours notice for me and without jet lag for you!

I had written this as a direct comment but I then saw your own comment. You sir are a hero. As a human being, thank you. And I think you should continue pressing on the message below. People are completely incredulous of the horrible nature that reality sometimes takes and thus simply can’t believe that certain things may actually be true. You should absolutely spread that message.
Noam is a nice person and a very reasonable skeptic. That’s why it is actually painful to watch how desperate he tries to reconcile that the side he supports is also doing horrible things and behaving.
The doctor actually hit the nail on the issue midway. Everyone is so in need to deny the horribleness of reality that they can’t even fathom that their side would do something so atrocious. Our entire sense of reality goes into question and we start doubting everything. This is true for all sides.

They should build statues of good men who simply, but never merely, show up just to do their job, if nothing else, but that would give off the illusion that these PEOPLE stand still in time; that they aren't already running to the rescue, even if the burden they aim to bear remains too heavy for a Superman to lift. May the insurmountable, and untold thousands of lives lost to this monstrous atrocity receive an adequate amount of justice in this life, as well as any other there might be...

Why was Noam so insistent that the doctor not be allowed to even comment on any of the evidence he had provided at around 58:00 minutes ? It is a bizarre way to host a discussion. So Noam gets to drone on for minutes at a time making several arguments, but the doctor isn’t allowed to address them? It almost felt like he knew all of his quotes and excerpts from NYT articles could very easily be refuted and was afraid of letting the doctor make an argument. Really bad faith.

Dr. Sidhwa, you aren't just a much better person than most of us could ever hope to be, you are almost saintly in your disposition. Most of us who have seen through Israel's lies would have either walked out or in extreme cases punched this Noam dude in the face or probably done both. You, on the other hand, took every disgusting insinuation on the chin without ever losing your cool with the sort of dignity that most of us do not see anywhere. Your grief and your exasperation still came through palpably, and yet, for the sake of the cause you passionately believe in, you withstood all provocation and held your ground. How does one even manage to do such a thing? My respect for you has been enormous ever since I found out about your work; but after watching this conversation, what I am floored by is your qualities as a human being.
You were polite and impossibly civil while making point after point after point in the face of the most uninformed and moronic hostility or should I just say plain old bias and that takes a lot of serious effort. You didn't have to do this; quote, show images and cite reports to a host who chose to lay it thick without adequate homework. I am okay to overlook his mistaking you for a Muslim, because, let's face it, the world is notoriously ill-informed about people of the tiniest faith in the world (by numbers) that you and I belong to, which is Zoroastrianism. But his certitude in claiming that WaPo and NYT, have an anti-Israel bias is what had me shake my head in deep disgust. While I concede that none of us are free of our biases, his credulousness at the most basic stuff was just staggering.
Feroze Sidhwa, you are a hero to so many of us who have been eyeing this conflict closely from all corners of the world, and I cannot adequately express my gratitude for the sort of individual you are. You are a true credit to your upbringing, your education, the institutions which have shaped you, and the family that must support you unquestioningly in your worldview. It would sure be a privilege to meet up with you in person someday.

If there were thousands an tens of thousands of people visibly starving, are you saying there would be nobody to shoot a few photos of those people?

The 1% that fancied themselves as celebrities were doing it for money and not well respected. Other key point I hope came up was why wouldn't an immediate hypothesis be that Hamas shot these kids?
Some other initial red flags I'd note: the doctor recently had a tweet saying something like "now that the NYT confirmed our report, there needs to be an investigation...", but the NYT simply made a blanket statement of support, they offered no additional evidence and didn't answer the specific objections people who do have relevant expertise raised.
Then, the doctor plays down his original political motivations but it's hard to believe a recent college graduate just goes to Haifa and works for a Pro-Palestinian NGO on a whim ("to learn about the conflict"). And, finally, a minor but perhaps telling point: he says Haifa is Israel's "only mixed city"(?) Haifa maybe is Israel's most or biggest mixed city, but it's not really accurate to say "only" one and that sounds like a habit of speech of someone who is used to being in politically extreme anti-Israel environments.

  • @empatheticrationalist

This is one of the best/scariest interviews yet. Usually the Pro-Hamas people are unhinged and give themselves away quickly, this doctor is very calm and much more subtle. Weaving in Hamas propaganda in easier to digest bits while staying calm. Amazing strategy and didn’t reveal himself to be Pro Hamas until nearly the end.
If you spend a billion dollars (or more) building a “subterranean fortress” (NY Times) while your people starve, that is still not the Jews’ fault no matter how much this Hamas supporter wants it to be.
If you also position those tunnels directly under civilian areas, then as the acting government tell those people not to leave knowing they will be blown up that is HORRIFIC. He kept trying to bring back the conversation to the term “human shield” so he could argue semantics. Who cares what the term is. They are murdering their own people.
Instead he repeats the equivalent of “Jews are killing children!” - this is the most oft repeated headline in human history, and it’s never once been true.
Instead of constantly saying children dead, how about “civilian” vs “combatant”. I think killing a 50 year old man is no less of a war crime than a child. It just depends if they were soldiers or not. As sad as it is, and horrifying to think about, 15 year olds can shoot a gun.
Focusing on “children” or “shot in the head” are clear emotional appeals against Israel. If they’re dead civilians it’s already a war crime.

I don't know if I'm right, but the video CT scan doesn't line up with the x-ray to my eyes. In the x-ray the bullet is about level with the eyes and about 2/3 from the front of the face. In the CT scan, the bullet doesn't begin to show up until after the scan has moved above the eyeballs, and it is much closer to the rear of the skull. Maybe there's slight angle differences that give me this perception, I'm not sure, I have hardly ever scrutinized medical scans. EDIT: I changed my mind, the CT scan makes sense, we still don't know anything beyond the fact that the scans are legit.

@@lookbovine We're talking about Ukraine, not Gaza. But your numbers on Gaza are completely unfounded. Hamas health officials (who have all the incentive to overcount and none to undercount) state specifically that there are 42,500 from violence (of which 30% are "unidentified") and up to 10,000 unaccounted for or in the rubble, with the absolute max kiIIed equal to around 55k. The Lancet correspondence, which is just a letter from some activists, not a study of any kind, simply says they think these Hamas numbers are true, and that in other conflicts, there are 3-15 times as many "indirect" non-violent deaths as there are direct deaths, so they just decided that there are probably 4 times as many indirect deaths - and that's where they got this 186k number. They say this 186k number "is not implausible," but they didn't actually do any data collection in Gaza or research or anything else to come up with this number, it's based on literally nothing except supposed studies of other unrelated conflicts, and they don't pretend otherwise. So if we are to believe that in Ukraine there were at least the same number of civilians kiIIed directly, which is a conservative assumption given that 25k were kiIIed in Mariupol alone, and at least 10-15k of the dead in Gaza are militants, then we should expect an equal number of indirect deaths in Ukraine.
