Is it just me or am I wrong in saying the artists yesterday were a hellva lot better and more entertaining than what passes for music today I have seen both these artists and was never disappointed ❤❤
This was the first record I ever got. Dad gave it to me. , still have it. but it was with Margaret? I was 12. 1985. Not sure why I love it so much. Music, memories, dad? Music is so powerful.
I've heard this song many times over the years and never cared much for it. Until now. Del Juliana. I'm addicted. I keep playing it over and over again, every day... Gotta go now. I need to press play.
Del Juliana died this morning 28/08/2012, she lost her battle with cancer. We will remember you forever, and thankyou for letting us hear your fantastic voice. RIP Del
Del Juliana will hopefully have met up with Inez Foxx who passed away in September 2022. Shame that I have only just heard Del's voice which was equal to that of Ms Foxx. RIP two great voices sadly confined to record only

Del lived down the bottom of Portland crescent maroubra when I was a kid on the early sixties.... we used to gather outside her house to get a glimpse of her.
One thing I discovered about Johnny O'Keefe via Wikipedia was his life span was similar to Elvis Presley in that O Keefe liived from 1935-1978. Gone Too Soon sadly RIP.
Had the odd opportunity to see both. JOK at the Adelaide Hotel in 1970 and Elvis in Vegas 1977. Odd in that my seating allowed me to see both entertainers waiting to go on. Both the same, sweaty palms sort of high energy and a complete change to absolute professional once on stage. Saw Johnny blow everyone out of the water at Sunbury too, especially my idol Billy Thorpe.
So sad that they are both gone. I had fond memories of working with with Del at the Oceanic Hotel in Coogee in the late sixties. She was a one off talent.
I've just found this and it has made my day so much so I'm going to search out this ladies records! I hear a beautiful mix of Brenda Lee, Lulu and Wanda Jackson
This clip brings back wonderful memories, of great times gone by .. I remember this duet well. An A-Grade, Gold Standaard posting .. hearty congratulations !!

I know right. Hard to believe that it was Johnny O Keefe's Show that helped Olivia Newton-John get her foot in The Door. The Best thing about doing Cover Versions of R & B Songs is that the Songwriter gets Paid if they own the rights. Since it as Written by Charlie & Inez Foxx and they own the Song, they are fine.
Thank you tomtokenator for presenting and hopefully preserving this most classic and stunning performance. Just been looking through "Rocknrolla" and bounced off Wanda Jackson, Funnel of Love. All the best guys and dolls who have the tech know to do this and share. I totally buy lots of original material to support the arts but it is great to get this additional.
Del Juliania if I recollect. Not much heard of after this. No one else could hold a candle to her. One of a number of great Aussie female artists that shone brightly but too briefly.
Their sound and interaction is so beautiful. Genuine performance, skill and warmth. Some one mentioned that Del is in Hospital. A very unpleasant place at any age. An absolutely lovely song that I return to listen to quite often. Thank you tomokenator for bringing this to us and of course thank you Jonhnny O'Keefe and Del Juliana.
@@Jevezy I used to think Charlie and Inez Foxx version was the best but this is a close second. They sang this cold in front of a live audience and they have soul, lots of soul.
This is a fabulous clip. Del's voice is sensational - exciting and passionate. I hope to find more of her stuff. She's the perfect partner for JOK in this version of the song. Margaret McLaren was superb also, and maybe more suited to JOK's style later in his career. Great stuff!
came here look'n up JOK but WOW Juliana that is one amazing voice love it! ill be getting some off your music for sure :) i know in heaven you and JOK will be rock'n roll'n
An excellent cover. Sadly us Poms missed out on this. Australian performers had to emigrate to succeed in the entertainment industry. As good as the now deceased Foxx siblings. RIP
Pop/Rock & Roll vocalist DEL JULIANA [b. Delores June Giuliani] (1942--2012) was born & raised in Maroubra, New South Wales, Australia, where she also lived as an adult. Del had a magnificent strong singing voice, striking red hair & a vibrant personality. She released 2 singles & was a familiar solo & duo artist on TV pop shows & in live performances. At age 14, Del first performed as an acrobat on the TV show "Sydney Tonight". From age 19, she performed as a vocalist on Johnny O’Keefe’s TV show, first called "The Johnny O’Keefe Show" & then "Sing Sing Sing", from 1961-65. According to the publication Teenagers’ Weekly, October 16, 1963 issue, Del Giuliani (as her name was still spelled there) was signed to an exclusive 5-year contract at Channel 7/Sydney, in 1962, after she appeared on "Sing Sing Sing", the program that replaced "The Johnny O’Keefe Show" from October of that year. Signed to the RCA label, she recorded 2 singles, "Never Like This" [b/w "What'd I Say"], & ''(I Say) You're Driving Me Crazy'' [b/w "I Was A Fool For Leaving"], which reached the lower end of the charts. In their book "Behind The Rock", Jon Hayton & Leon Isackson tell the story of how their band The R’Jays (soon to be The Rajahs) booked Del Juliana to appear with them at the Snowy Mountains Hotel in Cooma in early 1964. She also supported Screaming Lord Sutch's tour in 1964. Del Juliana has gone down in history as the singer who *almost* supported The Beatles on their 1964 Australian tour. Whether she pulled out or was overlooked is unclear, but her place seems to have been taken by Johnny Devlin. Del toured throughout Australia with Johnny O’Keefe until his death in 1978. She also toured as a vocal soloist supporting Chubby Checker, Gerry & The Pacemakers, & Herman’s Hermits. She toured in the "Rockarama" show throughout the early '80's with Little Pattie. She continued club performances until 1990. In 2002, she appeared at a memorial concert for Dig Richards. Del Juliana passed away in Sydney in August 2012.
Michael, You can eat your heart out : this is a PHOTOCOPY-IDENTICAL-IMITATION of the original version of "Mockingbird", written and recorded in 1963 by (american) Charlie & Inez Foxx, brother & sister duo from North Carolina.
I wouldn't go quite that far... Janis Joplin had way more vocal scope & versatility than many people realize, until they've heard a full chronology of all available recordings... That said, your comment gets a nod because the comparison is apt, one which can't be made with many other singers.
Crikey! I didn't know there was a version before the one with Margaret McLaren. Del Juliana's voice is in the style of Wanda Jackson. I like it. Thanks heaps tomtokenator.
