      V14.16 Upgrade logs
1.Fixed a bug that could be lost if parameters were lost. The bug is caused by a logical error in the parameter entered by the user.
2.Change the default configuration parameters to lithium iron to improve security.
2.Optimized JKBMS Modbus protocol, added RCV RFV register support. The protocol must use the PC software version V2.5.0。

Impressive, but as a broadcast engineer, I'd have to say the shots where the camera switches back from Andy to Andy3 in the sit-down interview... The camera is on the wrong side. The camera should be on the same side of the room, the same side of the interviewer and their subject, e.g. right of interviewer and left of their subject.
If you put the camera angles as he did, we call it "crossing the line".

Does recommending what is now a unsafe product make you potentially liable. If the BMS defaults back to original settings and a fire causes loss of property and injury?
You're probably thinking ridiculous but think about it! You are basically a BATA tester for JK you receive products for free test them and suggest software changes to JK through email. God forbid if something did happen and people were injured I think in the investigation your name would pop up!
Then on the other hand JK may sue you for misrepresent their product now that everyone is jumping on the Andy bandwagon and saying across the internet all JK BMS are unsafe and faulty!

In the meantime, JK could issue a firmware update which makes a factory reset default to an "OFF / Battery Disabled" profile, so you need to connect to the app and tell it which battery chemistry it's connected to. It seems a reasonable workaround for the problem, it'll at least prevent the issue from causing any damage.

Unfortunately - to save the values & definitions you must have some fix memory available on the boars. In case new JK-BMS can not store the values now, most probably does not exist such memory. It must be HW upgrade - therefore no way for existing board. From my perspective the buyers needs to be very carefull to buy "the cheapest" on ALI in the future. Most probably it will be THIS version. Of course only A) in case the memory seriously does not exist on todays board, B) in case JK do the changes and HW upgrade.

Up to V14.10 they don't loose their settings! I tested this version by version and the issue started from version V14.12! So it's just software related and should be fixed with a new firmware!!!

      @cuisinartOH1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think it's both a software (firmware) and maybe a hardware issue. They can remedy the issue by choosing the most conservative values if there is a reset to default values. But, shouldn't there be some sort of battery backup or NVRAM to contain the settings in the first place? Perhaps I'm assuming too much of these devices, but for something as important as a BMS it should have something to maintain the settings more than a few days. Today it seems like perhaps the length of time it takes to discharge a capacitor before it's erased?

    • @stephanklasen2928
      @stephanklasen2928 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@cuisinartOH1 it is 100% software related as versions V14.03 - V14.10 didn't have this issue! I tried it again and again and with all versions before V14.12 the BMS keeps the settings when power cycled or disconnected from battery.

I just saw this alert video.👍👍🙏
Thank you very much Andy and the whole community.
I would like to share my thoughts.
I have a Deye hybrid inverter with 5 banks of 48V batteries monitored by JK BMS.
I don't know if my 2 year old BMS keeps my settings in memory after power off them.
The good thing if you charge your batteries via an hybrid inverter is that the inverter supervises the battery voltage at a higher level than the JK BMS.
I have banks of 16 x 3.2v LIfepo batteries in series.
The JK BMS stops charging at 16x3.5V = 56V .
If, after a reset, the BMS is programmed to charge at 16 x 4.2V = 67.2V, the inverter will stop charging at the setting you programmed.
I programmed the inverter charging to stop at 56.5V.
So even if the BMS does not have the right settings, the inverter will stop charging the batteries at 56.5V.
If the JK BMS balances voltages from 3.4V it should be fine.😎😎

A BMS definitely shouldn't randomly forget its settings and especially not allow charge/discharge to turn back on until it has been re-configured. If any defaults are to be automatically restored and enabled, they should be set to values within the safe range for any cells the BMS is intended for use with. For a BMS primarily intended for NMC, NCA, LFP and (maybe) Na-ion cells, safe (though far from optimal) defaults would be something like 3V under-voltage, 3.4V over-voltage and 1/20th of the BMS' rating for charge/discharge current.

@@HolgerNestmann I'd be really surprised if the micro-controller used on the board doesn't have enough internal storage for at least storing safety-critical parameters. Tons of micro-controllers have over 1kB of on-chip EEPROM for stuff like that.

The BMS settings is always my last line of defense but I never allow it to have the final say on the circuit. It is the inverter and the charger that always have the final say when to stop discharging or when to stop charging the battery respectively.

    Thanks Andy for the information.
Question 1 : do you know if older jk bms B2A8S20P-HC have the same issue ?
Question 2 : could you tell the way to create the problem and check if the issue is global or local ?
From my point of view the issue is software.
In case of reset they could force to revalidate the setting and not let the bms run without an human validation of the setting.
Other option is to reset to the most conservative setting.
    ...
Let us know when it ll be solved.

I agree that this is just a software issue. The BMS memory should not lose power even if turned off since it is connected to the battery.

JK confirmed this morning to me, that the older "stand alone" BMSs do not have this issue. They say, that exactly these "not inverter" BMS are often used in cars or ships, where the system is switched off from time to time by use case. And they never had this issue reported before. They have these type running in the field now over 5 years with no safety issues.

Great discovery. I bet some of your followers could whip up a circuit of a 3.70V triggered op-amp piezo buzzer/breaker trip addition, that could apply to any BMS managed system.
Because I'm old, I'd prefer a jumper/switch on board for such a vital setting, like an earlier viewer suggested. With such a complex device, i can however see how this could get overlooked, while they're quickly taking care of all the other refinements you've been suggesting.

Good catch! I have my own 48V battery packs in different sizes and different chemistry as well, hookup to 15kW Sigineer inverter. Aside from BMS per battery pack, added a voltage monitor/relay and contactor to trigger the over/under voltage cutoff. Not efficient and fancy as Peter board but old school rules.

Well done Andy for bringing this to everybody's attention. Whilst I totally agree that this new JK BMS is potentially dangerous and that those who are about to buy a BMS should now look at other makes, the old JK BMS has stood out as being the the best on the market (see Andy's previous videos). Unless it is shown that these older JK BMSs have a dangerous fault I will continue to use them. I have three on a land based application which is a much lesser risk than on a boat. For most of us the 5v start up procedure is only a one-off procedure during first start up so is a minor inconvenience.

The topic is quite intriguing, and I must commend Andy for shedding light on this matter with a touch of humor rather than causing panic. I'm curious about the solutions JK might implement to address this issue. Perhaps transferring the firmware from flash memory to permanent ROM could be a viable option, though I'm not certain about its feasibility. I'm hopeful that a firmware update will suffice to fix the problem.
For those who have already purchased this BMS, it raises questions about how JK plans to rectify the situation. Personally, I've decided to hold off on acquiring this BMS until it receives Andy's seal of approval and confirmation that necessary modifications have been made.
It's a bit nerve-wracking, yet oddly amusing-I appreciate Andy's lighthearted approach to a potentially serious matter. Kudos to his entertaining perspective!

Wow! Very creative, Andy, and a great public service in letting us know of this potential safety hazard. As you stated there has been "ups and downs" with this BMS since you first reviewed it. However, you were very keen on this device and I am sure many viewers have purchased this BMS per your reviews. I hope whoever they are, they all see this video and take the appropriate action.
With all the "ups and downs" documented and now this..............well, even if they fix this, can we trust JK products down the road? What do you think?

I just ordered 4 of 150A version and I really think about cancelling because I don't think a sw-solution can resolve this major bug! I once had one of the first smart-phones on the market (XDA). It had a volatile memory - awful!

    • @NaamNatuurlijkniet
      @NaamNatuurlijkniet ปีที่แล้ว

I guess, when time without power is the issue they would have to install some kind of firmware battery (bios battery). On the other hand, simply turning it off bit connected to the battery, might prevent the problem.
In which case they would only have to check the state of memory, or detect the reset at powerup and tell this to the user. One might also simply use conservative basic settings after a reset. There is still the inconvenience of having to reprogram but the danger will be gone.
Simply reprogramming each “weekend” is not a real solution either.
They will have to find a way to keep the memory powered somehow of that is the actual problem. That would mean changes in hardware. On the other hand it might just be a software routine forgetting to write settings to the right place.
Old desktop computers loose their settings after a backup battery error, bit sometimes also after a hardware error of failure. Some temporary short in a component can happen to any and all electronics. This should never lead to dangerous situations.
I guess they just launched the product too soon.

Thank you for sharing this information - and the nice video!
It seems to me that JK is storing the information in a NV-RAM which power supply is buffered by a capacitor. This will last for some time - and after this capacitor is discharged the information is gone. But they should never use a setting which can cause major trouble as a default then 😕

you can tell the manufacturer JK that they need to add, when the battery charges closer to 100%, they need to reduce the current by CAN message for Invertor such as SOLIS.
It is also important to know for JK that as soon as the inverter receives information from the BMS that it is 100%, the inverter stop charging the battery
