Bymyself I will drive you to the monastery. I give promise you that you don"t need to donate money. MgbToo Tour Gide
Hello, I live in an international monastery in Myanmar. Please dont feel bad for not giving monks the money, because you have unknowingly helped the preservation of Buddhism. Now so many monks asking or accepting money. But in true practice, a monk is prohibited from asking and accepting money, either for himself or the monastery. Otherwise, a non-money donation should be done voluntarily based on devotion and faith.
As a Buddhist and a Burmese, it's not acceptable that a monk is asking for donation especially for a specific amount of money. People must feel free either donate or not.
true i am from myanmar tht is like kinda selfish i say coz plp donate like only 100$ if they are rich like that the amount that plp normal plp donate only 10 or 5 $ coz and monk can't ask to donate
I am so sorry to hear that monk asked you for donations. He should not ask at all. Please accept my apology on behalf. However glad to know you guys are back in one piece ans safe home. I really enjoyed watching your travel videos. On top of all so happy that you both had a good time.
The monk shouldn’t be asking for a specific $ amount. They can say if you want to donate to contribute for the temple, then you can do so. It is how much you want to donate. I believe in most cases they will give you a donation slip.
I myself was a close Upsaka ( daryakar) of pongyi U Sandhobasa ( pongyi U San-daw-bar-tha), one of the direct disciples of The Great Ashin Zanaka sayadawgyi( 1900-1977). Many of my monks-teachers were educated in that monastery during Ashin Zanaka's time. $200 is a not at all a small sum for any westerners travelling. It is a lot of cash. That monk's behaviour is breaching of Vinaya / monastic code and totally disgraced to our late sayadawgyi myer , to the monastery and to Myat Buddha's Sarsana itself. The time has changed for the worse. Senior monks there ( mostly corrupted / no respect for Vinaya themselves ) at present time are very different from the senior monks ( very well-trained by Ashin Zanaka sayadawgyi himself) at old time. I take 'than wai ga'. Time has changed for the worse. The saying 'pongyi become Loo' 'Loo become be-loo' is happening there right now. Sad.
dammmn $200 ? that's a disgrace!!! as a Burmese ik some rules that the monks should and shouldn't do and that's the one that they shouldn't do ! I m sooo embarrassed about that case but I promise myanmar is really beautiful and there are many authentic monks out there.Wish you guys the best with your works.
As a former monk myself that sort of behavior from the monk is not acceptable at all, if the senior monk were to find out he would be rid of his title as a monk. Also it is preferred that you take socks off in a Buddhist site. Great vid btw love the content.
I'm a devout Buddhist from Myanmar and Buddhist Monks are not allowed to beg for a certain amount of money per strict Buddha's rules as a donation. He was breaking his principles as an ordained monk.
You guys should have complained about 200 USD. Monks are not allowed to ask for money by the rules of Buddha. By the way I am pleased you guys had an amazing time in my country.
The monk asking you money is fraud. Should be reported. As a Bumese, feel so embarrassed about it. Buddha said Buddhism will be destroyed only by monks, not outsiders.
Sorry to know that he is asking donations. It's NOT that Buddhist monks can do. That makes him that he is no longer Buddhist monk and he should be removed. Very shameful for his manner I apologized for his behavior.
As a Burmese myself I am kinda mad that the monk asked for 200$ donation that is a lot . We r not that kind of people that beg for money . Only if the person wants to donate then it is allowed
Jack and Gab, safe journey throughout Myanmar. Best sunset photos and thank you for them. But disappointed about the demand by the "Buddhist monk" who demanded $200 US dollars. Very bad and insincere. Despite being brought up as a Buddhist, I have left all religion behind as they are the cause of so much angst and deaths throughout the world. Sorry if I intrude on to your page for his rant, because I am shocked by his demand.
A monk can not demand or accept the money. You guys should report it to the monastery in charge because that is against the buddhist teaching. If you want to donate please drop at donation counter or donation box displayed. Thank
It was completely inappropriate for the monk to ask for a donation. Especially a Theravada monk. It was also inappropriate for you to wear a t-shirt with an alcoholic beverage ad on it into a temple. As you are traveling and being graciously welcomed as guests in foreign countries, cultures and religions, please be more mindful of being respectful.
