I kicked a tank once. He was awful. We kept trying to tell him over and over to turn on tank stance. Finally he does, but he still loses aggro every pull. We keep suggesting to him to use aoe, but he doesn't respond. We tell him the exact skills to pick up and keep aggro... literally just put your aoe combos on the bar. And the one time halfway through the dungeon that he replies he writes, "Fuck you guys, YOU try playing on a controller!!!" As if tons of amazing players don't play on controllers. I'm sure there's world first raiders on controller in this game. maybe. anyway... we kicked him. every single pull was an absolute mess and he was a dick on top of it.

I play on controller. Tanking is still not hard. That tank just sounds like an incompetent asshole.

In my experience everyone's favorite FFs are probably the ones they grew up playing. Like 3 is arguably worse than 4 but I prefer 3 because I didn't play 4 until I was much older haha

As for the intro, all the games are iconic and amazing however your choice of beginning with either 7 or 10 is solid enough. I would like to add not to sleep on Final Fantasy Tactics for a fantastic story with great gameplay that has nice ties to ff14.

also i would love to see mike progging savage raids, i think its always great to see wow ppls progging ff savage raids as it is a whole a new experience of the raids themself as they offer alot new mechs to handle and leane, nornmal raids are always easy to pass, savage raids are the good stuff and ff always offers a side off you learn more by failing then any other mmo does

Definitely recommend VI for it's story and an actually evil villain. Also XII Zodiac Age is really fun, it's kinda got kinda mmo-like combat with auto attacks going on and you use abilities mixed throughout. The party AI customization is super cool too, haven't found any game that lets me custom to AI that well.

Kicked a tank because he kept using 'shirk' on the healer during pulls which gives the target your built up aggro

Homie, not having the full truth at any given time is what makes for a more interesting story. You know that every single person in your life has, at many points, not been fully honest with you?

FF in a nutshell, to my experience, trying to keep it as spoiler-free as possible:
--1: it started here. There's like 3 versions; 1 is NES, and is understandably NES hard. It's also kind of BROKEN in a few ways, but playable. There's significant bugs here and there (primarily, black mages are pretty useless) and encounters are only semi-randomized so it's VERY easy to get hard-locked. There's GBA (being Dawn of Souls) and modern versions as well, those are far more playable nowadays. 1 has the upside AND downside of being.. very free-roam.. you don't get a lot of direction in it.
--2: black sheep to the point that I know jack all about it. But the story is far more directing at the least, and that continues from here on out, so that's a strong perk. On the downside, party members come and go ALL THE TIME in this, so gear management is a pain.
--3: introduced freely job changing. Note this hasn't really stuck around. It is NOT the norm. I believe it also introduced item sets, which also hasn't stuck around all that much. 3 to my knowledge also has a few critical bugs here and there, but nowhere near as bad as NES 1. Job identities begin to get more solidified here.
--4: ... I feel FF4 is pretty forgettable, to be brutally honest. You almost never hear anything about 4, beyond how the ending feels badly rushed and kind of.. really forced. What I could say is it puts classes into story relevance; almost every Dragoon is modeled after the guy in this one, and Dark Knights and Paladins really landed their identity here. Imo, this is one of the lower-ranking FFs, but it's got its strong points.
--5: Absolute underdog. 5 is where they brought back job changes and turned it up to 11; it's SUPER customizable. The story however, is almost hildy-levels of wacky at times. It's very casual and silly (not to say it doesn't have its sad moments). Again, there's the SNES, GBA, IOS and Pixel Remaster versions; I would personally suggest either GBA or IOS/Steam (yes, seriously) as the Pixel Remaster to my knowledge DOES NOT include the bonus content added in those. For some reason. It's mostly just a few jobs (which kind of get outclassed endgame anyways) and an extra dungeon, but content is content, imo, if you're planning on doing nearly everything. A VERY important note here; there are three EXTREMELY prominent FF entities that actually START popping up here; it's a good starting point for FF14 reasons, but a *bad* starting point for mechanical reasons. But once again, many jobs pick up key traits here.
--6: I know jack all about 6. And this is for one reason alone; again, not many people talk about 6, beyond the main villain being SUPER enjoyable. The reason why everyone screams about 6 nowadays is MANY elements from it are put into and directly referenced in Endwalker; and honestly, this is fine. I won't say much or how because of spoilerinos, but that's pretty fact. Is it bad? No, but I don't like how party members dip in and out all the time; that's really not my jam. Again, gear management. On the other hand, once more, jobs pick up key defining features again.
--7: Look, I'm going to be BRUTALLY honest here; I played FF7 for the first time a few years ago, and as someone who actively enjoys JRPGs.. 7 has aged like milk. Maybe it's because of Zelda, but I really find 7 pretty bad. I can't say anything for the remake, they probably made it less terrible, but I found 7 washed out SO many things from FF as a whole, from jobs to an actually engaging story. PS1 7's story can seriously be summarized into "chase the one guy who actually wants you to chase him because it does little more than advance his own plans." The entire party is constantly holding the idiot ball, and it drives me absolutely insane. I'm VERY certain the main reason people bark about FF7 is because yes, it was ground-breaking with cutscenes and visual style AT THE TIME. The Materia system added in more customization, but it's.. really easy to absolutely fuck up your characters to be useless *and* it's annoyingly grindy, in the worst way. It's basically jobs.. minus the actual jobs. So it's.. not ideal. There was an attempt, though, and it makes sense on paper, at least. That, and Tifa is Lara-croft stacked... so, yeah.
I seriously gave FF7 an honest try, but I literally could not finish the last disk. Each time I tried it actually put me to sleep. Some people like it, sure, but as someone who grew up on OoT, I find it significantly more boring. Sure, OoT doesn't have super fancy cutscenes, but those don't drive the actual gameplay, soooo...
--8: Look, 8 is divisive in the simplest form. When people talk a video game, they usually mean gameplay. 8.. does not have great gameplay. Simple as that. The things they tried in 8 for character power REALLY backfired. Levels don't really matter, and gameplay as a whole mostly revolves around limit breaks and basic attacks, as the Draw/Junction system actively HURTS your character stats if you use magic. (Outside of Angel Wing on rinoa.. but THAT'S either useless OR obscenely broken, depending on if you know what magic to ditch on her.)
On the OTHER hand, the *story* of 8 is unironically excellent. Remember how I said 7s story is, frankly, pretty bad? 8 absolutely turned that around. 8s story is hands-down one of the best in the series, that I've played. Top 5. No question. Despite the gameplay woes (which add in fantastic ways to break the game anyways.. angel wing is again an example) I very handily replayed 8 multiple times and would actually recommend it for starters. Graphically, it's aged rather well, comparatively speaking (this is notable, 7, 8, and 9 are all on the PS1 and they definitely showed significant advancement between each one)
That isn't to say 8 is easy, due to HOW the level system works and that magic (including curative magic) is generally detrimental to use, there's numerous points in the game which will absolutely kick your ass. It's EASIER, but does have roadblocks. The last boss in particular is a pretty massive difficulty spike.
--9: 9 is, hands down, the best FF I've played after 14. Not just for story, but also gameplay. People don't like the limit system, and I understand that; and it's also a fair argument. Having your limit break go up semi-randomly AND makes it a pain to actually use when you NEED it, but at the same time, it rarely makes TOO much of a difference gameplay-wise depending on the character.. nothing is particularly difficult enough to necessarily strongly encourage its use. Even the superbosses. It's also the most "classic" FF; 9 is basically a massive rollback on the FF series after the heavy steampunk and sci-fi focus of 7 and 8. 9 is a big love letter packed full of references to previous FFs in the same way that 14 is, and it capitalizes on that.
Of one relevant point here is how the character customization of 3, 5, 7 and 8 are gone. Characters once again have jobs, in numerous cases, multiple ones. Customizations are done through an odd little mechanic called Magic Stones which you get through levelup. They're mostly used for character enhancement like status immunity, preventing Stealing from 'missing' (it's complicated), stuff like that. The biggest issue is that almost all the magic stone abilities are VERY useful, but they're also pretty limited; you gotta pick and choose what you require. But that's a good thing; actually MEANINGFUL CHOICE.

      Continuing the wall, but I'm less knowledgable on these ones;
--10: Ever heard of the term "Final Hallway?" It mostly refers to FF13, but it generally started here. It refers to the overall removal of free exploration. Most if not all FFs before this are pretty much open-world; and for some reason they dropped that here. On more pressing notes; the story of 10 is fine, if you can.. get past the angsty as hell main character. Like, really annoying teenage angst. There's good twists, though. I personally don't mind 10s story premise much, but I find two main characters do it a significant disservice.
The gameplay is a huge change though. Strictly turn-based. Character customization is based on your weapon, and the sphere grid. The sphere grid is good. The weapon thing.. ehhh. Don't go for the top-end weapons on-stream, skip over those, they're MASSIVE timesinks and VERY boring if not frustrating. To say nothing of the voice acting.. they tried, bless them they tried, and I'm never going to knock on clear effort, but it's SUPER hit-or-miss. Then again, this is PS2 dubbing days, so that's kind of unsurprising.
10 also has a sequel that mostly drops the original main character, which is by itself a pretty large improvement in my opinion. But I know nothing about it beyond that; NOBODY has talked about it.
--11; the original FF MMO. You already know about 11s bosses, and like 7, it's aged.. not great. But it still has a very dedicated playerbase. I don't know much about the combat loop, but it's still capable of being skipped. Know that if the XIth legion ever comes up, it's referring to something from 11. Also Shantotto, she came out of 11. And was fond of rhyming. A lot.
--12; I don't know much about 12s story, but I do know enough that it's got two versions; the OG version and the Zodiac Age version. I'd suggest Zodiac Age, it clears up a lot of the frustrations with the initial job systems, so I hear. The story is 50/50.. again, nobody really talks THAT much about it, but it's usually praise. So it can't be that bad.
--13: I'm not going to cover 13 here mostly due to knowing about as much about it as you do. Jack all beyond it's VERY divisive. But that mostly stems to, again, similar to 7: booba on the main character. Adding in that FF13 has three separate games, 13-1 isn't received well, 13-2 and 13-3 are.. generally BETTER. 13 is the start into the PS3 days, and while the VA can be a bit ehhhh, it's solid enough to grow into, at least. So that's a perk.
--14: it is a mystery. Nobody has heard anything about FF14. There's definitely no big memes about getting started in the game. No sir. It appears to have just vanished off the market for a time.. must be terrible, to be outright removed from sale. (In a less sarcastic note, I literally don't need to talk about this one.)
--15: 15 is rather recent. Unsurprisingly. It's also kind of.. 50/50. Apparently the story isn't bad, and the gameplay is alright. But it's got the old WoW problem. Seriously. A lot of story expansion is done in external medium through the anime (yes, it has an anime) and books and DLC. This.. obviously isn't great. On a worse note, there's a specific character who's supposed to be super-important in the story but has almost no relevance or appearance in said story; the last DLC was supposed to focus on them and actually expand them to an interesting character, but that got canned entirely. Oops.
Which is a long version to say 15 has some of the biggest downs of the series due to modern marketing and development. It's.. not ideal, because the story had a TON of potential, and the gameplay is pretty solid to what I've seen, and it's honestly pretty gorgeous.
I'm not covering the spinoffs as I've only played Dissidia 012, Crystal Bearers and Crystal Chronicles, and none of them really have "main" FF series relevance, so between my absolutely *dearth* of story knowledge here, the fact that I never actually GOT anywhere in chronicles, and that I've already dumped two walls which probably aren't gonna get read anyways, I think that'll suffice well enough.
Do love me some Dissidia 012 though.. long story short, they yoink'd the main characters and villains from each of the series and put together a story and game mode that actually allows them to interact rather sensibly with one another. It's VERY interesting, and the villains as a whole have some pretty hilarious interactions. Especially one in particular, whom you've already faced in 14.

Ff4 ff6 ff7 or ff9 are best for a starter into ff imo x isn’t bad but it doesn’t imo feel like classic ff
