That is why this episode for me cuts deep and now you know why he is my favorite X-Men and even my favorite Marvel character of all time.
The fact that they did this during the fucking E for extinction story by Morrinson is fucking crazy then adding Erik’s and Remy’s death I so want some time travel bullshit or I’m gonna riot
(in chess) an opening or end play in which a player makes a sacrifice, typically of a pawn, for the sake of some compensating advantage. The definition of a Gambit. Often in use to save the king or queen. What queen did Gambit sacrifice for? He lived up to his name. A sacrifice for something he viewed greater than himself. I have the same feeling. Magneto isn't actually dead or else we'd have seen his body, likely Leech drained his power to make it look like he was dead. Gambit will likely come back as one of Apocalypse's horsemen.
Maybe it’s just very difficult to “troubleshoot,” like both Cable and Bishop returning to deal with the Techno-Virus Plague without ruining future outcomes. But looping over and over, seeing people slaughtered - I’d think “not again” too.
This episode also made a point of introducing Moira McTaggart. In 2019 it was revealed that she was actually a mutant who can reset the timeline through a reincarnation power where she retains memories of her past life like reseting a game. Then she was depowered by the same gun that shot storm in episode 2 while Sinister cloned her with her reincarnation power intact, calling them his "Moira Engine" and using them to manipulate the timeline to perfect his plans. Boys... This is why you two are my favorites on TH-cam. Not only do you understand most of the lore behind all of this, pick up in all the small details that most miss, but you are both right into it. It hit me when I watched it, but I got really emotional watching you two react. Can't wait to see what comes next!! 🥹
If you're not already watching them, I'd also recommend Fandom Zone. They're an Australian couple -- Trent and Julia -- who react to nerdy stuff, too, and Trent knows the comics inside and out. When they watched this episode... let's just say Trent was not okay when he realized which storyline was happening about 60 seconds before the drop 😅
This was the best episode so far. The build up to the destruction of Genosha was everything. The music was already feeling ominous even before Madeline had that psychic flash of hearing Cable telling them to turn off the music. This effing great
This episode had so many jaw dropping moments I couldn't believe. From Jean and Wolverine kissing,to Cyclops snapping on the reporter,to the reveal of Madeline and Cyclops's psychic Affair,to seeing Nightcrawler and Dazzler,Rogue and Gambit breaking up,Rogue and Magneto's dance and finally that final attack by the sentinels. This 1 episode surpassed the entire Fox Adaptation of the Xmen. MAGNETO "WE WILL NOT LIVE OUR LIVES WONDERING IF WE COULDVE SAVED MORE" GAMBIT" GAMBIT SEES YOUR BET AND RAISE IT!!"
@@skyhimeI believe this may be a nexus event so many hints towards it the watcher, cable my guess is magneto was saved by leech somehow and gambit will come back as a horseman the others however will be gone.
“No, no, nope, walls up, I refuse, I’m not playing your game, that’s was too cool… NOOOO” literally me brotha this was too good. Cable has to try again
Fun fact Gambit in his first appearances he nearly killed all the morlocks, so to have him save them, is fucking amazing. He is the only gambit that has been able to fully redeem himself for that, and for them to do that right before he died is so fantastic. He always saw himself as a horrid person but you can tell in this moment he finally accepted himself as an x-men and hero
Honestly, I think this is much worse. Vox Machina's moment was sad, but this was an entire goddamned genocide around the core character death and mourning.
I just watched the first episode again for the first timafter seeing this. Didn't realize Madelyne's Mastermold vision had the Ace of Base song, Cable's last words to her, and his silhouette in the dust.
You two ARE the droids we've been looking for. It doesn't feel like I've officially "watched" an episode of anything without seeing your reactions. Viewing anything is a 2-part experience: Watch Hawkeye, watch the boys react; watch No Way Home, watch the boys react; watch X-MEN explode my head, watch the boys' heads explode.
Leave it to an animated nosebleed to make it feel like we were in fact walking into a Red Wedding. Hope you boys are doing okay because this Slop Goblin still isn't
Beau De Mayo said this episode was his pitch that made him got the Show. Also, he said that he made this thinking in 9/11 and what happend in Pulse disco in Orlando. This is why is so choking. as the victims in those terrorist atacks, no one expected it...
The world has its way of ripping us from the innocence of our youth. Our Saturday morning X-men cartoon no longer exists. Those of us who grew up with these shows have seen enough to know that the world is not a happy place. Our safe spaces, our sanctuaries aren’t as safe as we believe them to be. This is why this show hits us so hard. Yes, it’s great to see our heroes use their powers in cool and awesome ways, but at the end of the day, they’re just doing their best, just like we all are, and like us, they don’t always get the win. There are some points in time that can’t be undone and this might be one. With both Charles and Magneto gone, it feels as though the coin has been tossed, the X-men will need to decide on which side they land. I’m a little scared y’all.
Honestly I’ve been waiting for this reaction the most since I watched the episode. Not that I want to see you guys suffer, but I mean. WHAT AN EPISODE.
The level of courage with the adult conversations and terrifying stakes this show has shown. I know it's the X-Men & I know no one ever stays dead in the comics, but Beau & the rest of the team have it in them to keep Gambit dead for a long time just to really cinch in the stakes of what's happening. Cable might actually fail on this Edge of Tomorrow path. I think after reading what Beau said about the Pulse Nightclub and 9/11 with regards to the approach to this show, all of us who grew up with this show are seeing that passage of time in our lives now. We're older and this show is paralleling us. And it shows that we don't have superhero fatigue - we just want the stories to reflect the real-life realities. And of all things, Disney+ has arguably had three of the best shows the last couple of years - Andor, Shogun and now this.
I was waiting specifically for your reactions because you guys have the most authentic empathy on TH-cam and I wanted to know it gut punched someone else the way it gut punched me. Not that I want you guys to be sad! It just is a bit cathartic for me to know I'm not alone haha
The showrunner posted an explanation for why this episode plays out like it does (worth reading, made me love it even more), and one of his big points is that Gambit's death is supposed to be a reminder that "some stories are cut short." So even _if_ they go back in time to fix things, I'm pretty sure Gambit won't be saved. That would take away a lot from this episode's impact and its intent.
Yeah, even if they're able to intercept the Kaiju-Sentinel before it hits Genosha, they may not be able to stop it without a similar move by Gambit. Still, I could also see just having this moment, and especially making those who saw it in real-time wait a week between episodes, being enough to convey that message.
This event in the comics is also what triggers Emma Frost second mutation to become diamond. It's how she survived the attack. They for sure put Emma on Genosha on purpose. Putting Moira McTaggart on Genosha for this was a wild move though with what was revealed in the comics about her back in 2019.
This is why I love your channel, guys! I feel like I'm too emotional at times but seeing you all react the same way, feeling the raw emotion that good television, film, any media can bring!
Theres a moment right before the party where the overhead shot of Genosha has The Watcher in the sky with stars as his eyes. Almost as if this moment is so pivitol in the multiverse he had to be a witness.
I think this is one of the few times that we are all super excited to use time travel to fix the deaths. Like how many times have we been like ‘of course they will find a way to bring them back 🙄’ and this time it’s ‘you better find a way to bring them back!!! 😭’
Great reaction!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels that way about Gambit. Gambit was finally let off the chain to just highlight how awesome hes ALWAYS been!!!

I'm just sitting here still emotionally drained from this episode, days later. But, knowing that Beau DeMayo said that "This (episode 5) is just the warm up for episodes 8, 9 and 10". This is a warm up? A warm up?! I don't think any of us are prepared for what is coming in the next 5 episodes.
I know this tragic story where 16 million mutants died and if it's not the Professor's sister behind this because both Gray and Prier had what looked like a psychic attack so Cassandra could be behind this to knock out telepaths before geneside started happened, but then I started thinking that we've just been introduced to one of those ancient evil gods of mischief that goes by the name of The Adversary, and that character loves chaos and despair and what's more despair than what happened in this episode.... This evil known as The Adversary cannot be defeated by normal means without sacrificing life. Another enemy can be Bastion. What really tugged at my heartstrings was when you look into Cabel's eyes and realize that it's his mother in front of him and that he couldn't save her.

@@alexkramerblogs yea I seen that online too ..like could that really be the reason he was fired?!? And what's crazy he went on social media after this episode and said this was only a warm up..the next few episodes are gonna be crazy.
I’m from the future. They did not disappoint.
"Your heart may beat for me but I can't feel it" Then later: Rogue sobbing over Remy's body, her hand on his chest.
This was single handedly one of the BEST TV animated episodes ever, and that's including anything from TCW, which is really hard to beat, by the way.
MAGNETO "WE WILL NOT LIVE OUR LIVES WONDERING IF WE COULDVE SAVED MORE"
GAMBIT" GAMBIT SEES YOUR BET AND RAISE IT!!"
Final badass words from Gambit,
*THE NAME'S GAMBIT- REMEMBER IT!!!*
Exactly!
I love how Adam was shaking his head in disbelief and denial like nah nah this ain't happening nah 😂😂😂
Adam hit that "denial" stage of grief HARD.
@@foulrot I think we all did when first watching this
Im not in denile. Im sill betting on some sort of reset button.
@@skyhimeI believe this may be a nexus event so many hints towards it the watcher, cable my guess is magneto was saved by leech somehow and gambit will come back as a horseman the others however will be gone.
@@Mcherri😱😱😱😱
i kinda remember that from the comics. If thats the path to omega lvl Gambit, ill take it!
Remember the moment in Vox Machina when Vex died? The "Do not go far from me..." bit at the end? Exactly the same feelings after this one.
Honestly, I think this is much worse. Vox Machina's moment was sad, but this was an entire goddamned genocide around the core character death and mourning.
@@IceMetalPunk I'd agree! I just got the same feeling after the episode did the cut-to-black ending.
13:20 around this time when you 1st see the fireworks outside you also see the WATCHER.
Rogues words "Sugar, I can't feel you.." had me sobbing like a child, so sad #pReviewd this show is amazing
Cyclops turning into the take no BS version from the comics is my fave.
Nothing he was was incorrect either, he was 100% right.
@@foulrot YUP
rare that they both tear up that much at the same time. When that happens theres noone to say "you ok bud?"
Adam's reaction at 18:20 is basically me.
I'M STILL NOT OKAY.
I just watched the first episode again for the first timafter seeing this. Didn't realize Madelyne's Mastermold vision had the Ace of Base song, Cable's last words to her, and his silhouette in the dust.
Gambit died not knowing rogue chose him in the end
💔 the sugar i cant feel you line broke 💔 me
You two ARE the droids we've been looking for.
Been waiting for this reaction since Wednesday!
I HAVE BEEN WAITINT FOR THIS REACTION LMAO. Alright, 24 minutes - I anticipate Adam and Jay will be as messed up as the rest of us after this.
I mean, they thought it was "serious" and "intense" when Remy friendzoned himself... they had no idea what was coming 😂
Jay scatting the opening theme is *chef's kiss
I’ve been waiting for this and you guys did not disappoint.
It’s comforting knowing I’m not the only one who cried at the end. 💔
Also this episode is getting 1/1 hidden Watcher easter egg in the Genosha skies
The Watcher! Did you see him in the night sky before the ball?
This is so well written…incredible really.
I love how this episode makes everyone go, "Cable's HERE! Ohhhhhhh SH*T Cable's here..." And my comment from last week holds up. This is adult X-Men
I was waiting specifically for your reactions because you guys have the most authentic empathy on TH-cam and I wanted to know it gut punched someone else the way it gut punched me. Not that I want you guys to be sad! It just is a bit cathartic for me to know I'm not alone haha
Best line outside of *REMEMBER IT* was Gambit saying,
*I SEE YO BET AND RAISE IT!!!!!*
12:04 “this show is serious”
Me “honey…you’ve got a big storm comin’ “
Where did you read/heard this? Link?
“Sugar..? I can’t feel you” makes me feel like that meme of the kid laying outside in the rain
This is why I love your channel, guys! I feel like I'm too emotional at times but seeing you all react the same way, feeling the raw emotion that good television, film, any media can bring!
So many cameos and references and god what a turn! Best episode I've seen all year
Theres a moment right before the party where the overhead shot of Genosha has The Watcher in the sky with stars as his eyes.
There was such good voice acting in this. My favorite being Madeline saying to Cable “you made it”. Heartbreaking
This is why this is one of my favorite react channels. Pure emotion.
The intensity and movement in both of your eyes from 14:00 on! 😲 Truly invested, great reaction video.
Great reaction!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels that way about Gambit. Gambit was finally let off the chain to just highlight how awesome hes ALWAYS been!!!
Niece: how did he blow up that big robot by himself? Me: With style, petite. With style. 😢
The last line of this episode hits me each time I see it ... absolute waterworks.😢
Adam going full Tracy Morgan in Cop Out is everything. 🤣
For people like me who only had the first 13 episodes in the 90's on perpetual rerun cause FOX syndicated all the other seasons, this Xmen 97 makes so much sense
“Sugar I can’t feel you” That line hits so hard and then the fade to black with theme song playing so slowly and eerily. A week later and I’m still in shock.
I've needed a good art reference for 'deer in headlights' expressions and I think everything after the wild sentineal fires it's first blast does the job... 🤣
I'm new and just subscribed and man... the evolution of your face through the episode... going from "yeah fun they say this episode is gonna be amazing" to... "what am I? wtf is this universe I'm living in?"
i’m still a big noob when it comes to x-men stuff. but holy shit i’m absolutely loving this show. to all the gambit fans around the world i feel for you after this episode. what a bad ass way to go out.
My advice is to pick a character you like and jump into the X-men universe that way by reading or watching their bios. It’s like falling down a rabbit hole!
You guys missed the faint silhouette of The Watcher in the night sky right before the reveal of Cable.
Me: I’m fine. This is fine.
Rogue: “Sugar, I can’t feel you…”
Me: Nevermind. I am not okay. 😭
"Sugar, I can't feel you." I rewatched the episode, and "touch" was a running motif through ALL of the storylines. Horribly soul-wrenching!
I'm watching this video again. Your reactions are just so damn raw and honest.
This show’s whole thing seems to just be “hey guess what! You have a new favourite X-Man every week!”. The MCU iteration already had a lot to live up to, this show is just raising that bar higher and higher.
Every fan of Gambit felt that. A beloved hero sacrifice.😢
Oh man, they missed the Watcher chillin' in the sky. As soon as I saw him, I was like "Uh oh..."
I'm calling it. Best Animated Series for the 2024 Oscars. Hell, it should also take Best Dramatic Series period, who cares if it's animation?
the scoundrel finally proved himself a true hero
