I fitted this kit to my Brompton at the weekend, and I just knew the BrilliantBikes video would be the “go to” guide on how to do this! Thank you so much for a super clear video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Many thanks, we agree we used to have music to cover the background noise. But it’s better without it, so o we stopped using it now. Thank you for the comment and for watching
Really great video. Purchased front wheel with dynamo and 60 lumens front light and rear light yesterday, arrived today and fitted this afternoon. Great service. Very helpful video.
OK I finally fitted it to my ex's Brompton. Thanks for the super clear video. Here are a few things I found tricky (I don't normally work on Bromptons) 1. Getting the wheel off - I looked around for how to release the brakes but it seems you really need to flatten the tyre first (this wasn't obvious to me - perhaps I missed something) 2. The hardest thing was fitting the spade connectors so I'm pleased you focussed on it. I got the whole job done only to see one was hanging off. Then I had to re-shape it unconvincingly with pliers. It seems ok but i'm still not convinced it'll stay on. Wondered about putting a blob of hot glue on the back to hold it together but i thought i'd keep that up my sleeve just in case 3. The routing of the cables was MUCH easier than i expected by carefully following your video (thank you) the Brompton instructions are P A N T S 4. The brompton didnt make quite the ideal stand i expected and i later noticed i had broken the front clip (re-ordered a new one from you and was an absolute pig to fit - the nylon cutting of the new thread didnt work so well and i spent an unhappy evening sawing the bolt off and doing that again). Overall, i like it. I thought i'd have to take it to the shop for this job and your video showed me how to do it myself and learn something in the process. It made me want to swap my Bike Friday Tikit for a Brompton or perhaps, well, N+1. The front light itself isn't very bright so perhaps a later upgrade as you have suggested elsewhere is a good idea. Sorry i didnt order the dynamo from you, i was being a bit thick when i first watched the video. I have ordered subsequent parts from you and was impressed with your website and the ordering process. You're not all that far from where I live so perhaps i'll pop in when i need a LBS!!
When you take the items out of the box, about one minute and twenty seconds into the video, the subtitles tell us you have the "front done right... rear dynamite". It is nice to know what we will be getting!
Thank you for an excellent video guide. I purchased my kit from you as soon as the black wheel version became available. It has been working flawlessly ever since. I fitted mine by following the printed ( Brompton ) instructions that came with the kit. I have to say that your video is outstandingly good, just wished it had been up when I fitted mine as it is so much easier to follow than the printed version.
Aloha, Please let me know if you’re ever coming to Hawaii. I’ll take you out to dinner if you help me install a front dynamo hub and light on my new Brompton. You make it look so easy. 😄👍🙏
Oh now that sounds very tempting!!! It really is not to bad to do! Easier when you have the right tools! Thank you for watching and for the comment - we would love to visit
Imagine considering weight AND utility when fitting an accessory to your bicycle. That's the sort of practical outlook missing from many UK cycle retailers.
Really good. If there was anything I’d upgrade the front light. The one on this kit is 25 lux and for travelling on unlit roads or canal towpaths 50 lux would be better. Overall another v clear film well done.
Thanks for watching. Agreed totally - in fact version one of this video was going to have the light then replaced with a Supernova light - but the bike got stolen. We do plan to do different light options soon.
brilliantbikes Thanks. That would be helpful. I’ve ended up with a Son/edelux on one Brompton and a Shimano hub and B&M 50 lux on the front of my other. Both setups are very good for the unlit roads and canals I go on. Thanks
Thank you for sharing. Do you have any idea why Brompton changed the dynamo to Shutter Precision? What is the main difference between SP SV-8 and the other two, SON and Shimano?
I have to confess that whilst I was watching the video I was shopping and I didn't notice the video was by brilliant bikes or I would have ordered it from you. Sorry that's awfully ungrateful.
Another fantastic video from Brilliant Bikes. One minor criticism - your instructions are very clear but do not benefit from the annoying background music.
With the smaller wheel you should be able to get more power out of the dynamo than with a 29er wheel!!! What we need is a dynamo with the same hole diameter as your old hub so you don't need new spokes....
I’ve recently bought this kit from a private seller on eBay (you originally supplied this kit & an upgraded B&M 80lux front Cyo IQ Premium Senso Plus light) so rewatching this video is super helpful prior to installation Please could you state the name and track of the music playing between 15:47 and 16:17?
Thanks for watching and for the kind comment - it makes us really happy if they are of some help The Brompton wiring loom is long enough to connect to a light mounted on the rear of the rack (where the reflector is mounted by default) The wire runs through the rear triangle (it’s hollow) and up the rear stay of the rack before connecting to the light
Another awesome video, Thank you! I have just purchased a Shimano hub dynamo kit and will be fitting soon. I do have a request - please could you stock the excellent looking Park Tool ratchet spanners you use in your videos on the BRILLIANT BIKES web site - I am sure you would sell them, especially if you added links in videos!
Ma'am if you sontind may I ask if for example there is a dynamo ,it can affect the pedal for running the bike it can hard to pedal coz there is additional burden can affect also to run the bike to be slowly?
Thanks for watching - and for the question We think it runs so smooth that it doesn't make any difference, but ...... We have just invested in a pair of power meter pedals - so we can measure the energy required to pedal. The plan is to make a short video showing the same ride and how much effort is required with a standard wheel, a dynamo wheel with the light on and a dynamo wheel with the light off - how does that sound? This should give a scientific result!
Thanks for watching and commenting / question Personally we don’t feel the difference If you spin the wheel by hand - you can feel a very slight resistance - but as said - once riding it’s not noticeable
Hi, I really like your videos and have just received my dynamo kit so can’t wait to get it fitted. In the video, you say the spades fit to the output but show them fitted to the input (I think). Is it meant to be the output it is fitted to?
I connected as you show in the video (the printed instructions are pants) but yes you connected to input and this caused me problems (back light on all the time then failing) going through the wiring again with my glasses on (ahem) I spotted the in/out written on the back of the light
Thanks for watching. Brompton parts have a 2 year warranty against manufacturing defects. We would expect the dynamo system to last much longer. Try to prevent bashing the lights when carrying or snagging the wires.
I guess you never have to worry about running out of charge , particularly if touring, camping, and if a quality product, you have a lifetime of free lighting
We don’t actually have a Son dynamo any longer to compare against. They are cheaper (that’s for sure). They really are not much heavier, but they definitely have a bit more rolling resistance (though it’s not really noticeable when pedalling)
I fitted this kit to my Brompton at the weekend, and I just knew the BrilliantBikes video would be the “go to” guide on how to do this! Thank you so much for a super clear video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just ordered this kit from you guys, once I fit it, all my bikes with have battery-free lighting. I can't imagine why I'd ever go back.
Thank you for watching and for the order. We agree we love just being able to grab the bike and ride.
The music is a distraction. You don’t need it. You’ve got a lovely voice and your videos are always very interesting.
Many thanks, we agree we used to have music to cover the background noise. But it’s better without it, so o we stopped using it now.

We try ;-)

I'd add some grease around the connectors to protect from long term corrosion, great video as always . 👍🚴
Thanks for watching - and for the great tip!

Which supernova light do you suggest?

very helpful explanation - thank you

Great video, if I fitted the light to my M6r, is there enough cable length to reach end of the rack, and does cable run under the rack?
Thanks

@@brilliantbikes great, thank you
... nice clear illustration and instructions, and (without sexist or patronising intent) so nice to see a woman getting her hands dirty :)
Thank you, we really appreciate you watching and the comments!

Why does the dynamo tab have to be 90 degrees to the dropout? Mentioned at ~4:25.
I always enjoy your presentations but for me,, an old guy, the music is far too distracting and loud. You are very good at demos.
Ma'am if you sontind may I ask if for example there is a dynamo ,it can affect the pedal for running the bike it can hard to pedal coz there is additional burden can affect also to run the bike to be slowly?

Thanks for watching and commenting / question
Personally we don’t feel the difference
If you spin the wheel by hand - you can feel a very slight resistance - but as said - once riding it’s not noticeable
Does the new dynamo has any friction when at work?
What's the weight compared with an ordinary wheel? (I use a titanium axle on my Lightweight). Finn. Denmark
Hi, I really like your videos and have just received my dynamo kit so can’t wait to get it fitted. In the video, you say the spades fit to the output but show them fitted to the input (I think). Is it meant to be the output it is fitted to?

I have a rear rack fitted on my Brompton and the reflector is at the back of that, is the rear wire loom long enough to fit it there?
Yes - the rear wiring loom is long enough for a Brompton with a rack
Thank you, that video was interesting, very well explained and left me with a clear understanding. Do you know what the guarantee period is?
Thanks for watching. Brompton parts have a 2 year warranty against manufacturing defects. We would expect the dynamo system to last much longer. Try to prevent bashing the lights when carrying or snagging the wires.
Erm... isn't it just a whole lot cheaper, lighter, easier and neater to have the USB lights instead?
I guess you never have to worry about running out of charge , particularly if touring, camping, and if a quality product, you have a lifetime of free lighting
How do u know its 8 nm ?
Many thanks for the question. You should use a torque wrench! Sorry I did not for the video
Do you know how these new hub dynamo’s compare to the SON hubs?
We don’t actually have a Son dynamo any longer to compare against. They are cheaper (that’s for sure). They really are not much heavier, but they definitely have a bit more rolling resistance (though it’s not really noticeable when pedalling)
Thanks for getting back to me I'm trying to decide which of the Hub Dynamos to buy and your reviews are really helpful.
