Hi Solid. Hope you’re feeling better soon. KTM is a typical example of business management when their attitude to their customers is “we don’t mind and you don’t matter”. I see this in our uk dealerships. So bike industry, beware, your customers will bite you if you get arrogant and dismissive. Thanks for the analysis. Regards William.

I think ktm tough that the pandemic fever of having extra time and buying a new motorcycle was never going to end, but the reality is that there are still some new 2022 ktm models sitting on the showroom floor , after all the most common reason for selling a bike on the used market is because they don't ride as they would like to .

The 390 Adventure R is one thing, but I think KTM really screwed up by not releasing the 490/501 parallel twin platform of bikes. That segment is exploding right now and KTM had several models announced and ready for production, then scrapped the whole thing a few weeks before they were supposed to launch. If they had launched I would have a Husqvarna Svartpilen 501 in my garage right now, but instead I'm looking at the cfmoto 450MT and that new BMW that was recently announced.

I don't know how much profit they have on bikes made by Bajaj and sold in Asia? It's not a huge market in Europe. They probably make more money on a "tech pack" on the big bikes than they do on a 390. It's pretty stupid to talk about national "arrogance". The market exploded in the covid years and then it died in the recession. The market for big bikes in the big market of Germany is pretty dead. Just an insight from an Austrian guy, kind of familiar with this company and knowing how "that" works in our country:
Due to the fact that any insinuation would have legal consequences for me, I would like to emphasize that the following statements are pure satire and should be understood as such:
People like P. from the company are very well connected to parties like the ÖVP and unofficially they are called “family” in our country. He, the former Federal Chancellor, the current one and a few other friends like B. (who currently has legal problems himself and a penalty order in Italy) have repeatedly staged stunts in recent years to feed companies like K. with public money (be it Corona - but here this also happened with other companies) or other financial injections.
Now to my actual satirical point: a number of people will be made redundant, production in Austria will be abandoned in the long term and production will happily take place in India. The bonuses will be paid out in full and the state will step in, among other things.
    ---

Not surprising. Far too many models, 25 different models of ktm, Why? No one needs that much choice, it’s ridiculous.
    In the duke range alone,
200, 390, 640, 690, 790, 890, 950, 990, 1050, 1090, 1190, 1290, now the 1390. Seriously why so much choice?🤯can you imagine the complex production and logistics and the cost of all those spare parts.
Customers and manufacturers got greedy now it’s the manufacturers paying the price.

Hey Solid hope ya heal up quickly. My experience with sinus surgery was mostly good except the first 2 weeks. The rest was a cake walk and man was I able to breath easier through my nose.
As for KTM, I’m torn on their situation. Part of me says it’s going to be hard to find someone who’ll be willing to step up to the plate, unless they are willing to give up lot of control. I don’t think the Motorcycle market is very strong right now and I see no that changing for the foreseeable future. Folks don’t have spare money anymore for toys. Although, that new 390 could help if they could get the pricing and profit margin to help. I think everyone who is thinking about ADV Motorcycles are thinking smaller and more affordable is the way to go. The 400-500cc market is red hot figuratively speaking, and possibly soon to go literally!

The thing is the superduke has sold fairly well.
The original RC8 wasn't a great seller and cost a huge amount in development.
The 1195 RC8R bombed as it suffered heavily from the after effects of the 2007-2008 financial crisis, pushing the price up just when the market for sportsbikes was shrinking.
KTM also did reasonable numbers on the Bajaj built single cylinders, but that's where the reliability issues came to the forefront.
And their handling of the LC8c parallel twin cam wear issues has been nothing short of abysmal.
It's almost as if they haven't realised social media is a thing and mountains can be made out of molehills and that bad news travels far faster and wider than anything else.
I've said this multiple times before, but I smell the effects of corporate penny pinching at its worst.
With every department forced to cut costs, outsourcing to ever cheaper suppliers (with lower quality work) and attempting to refuse warranty claims all smacks of the things I've seen before.

KTM are "ready to race" niche market bikes. Total world-wide Revenue or numbers of bikes sold is less than 10% of manufacturers like Honda or Bajaj or Kawasaki or Hero or Suzuki etc. They don't sell "mass market" bikes. Their signature high compression engines do have much more power output on high quality expensive gas. But run Hot, sound like a box of metal balls, don't last long, are unreliable that there is a viral video of pet parrots mimic their repeated starter sounds. It's a case of "Marketing" disaster. The niche market LOW volume is not bringing in the necessary volume sales and revenue to survive. They need to raise prices to survive but the market doesn't want to pay premium prices for Indian-made or Chinese-made KTMs.
