Such is the spirit of Joey. You look at his deck in a vacuum, and yeah, he always runs some pretty strong beatsticks. So you'd think he'd have a really strong deck. But he lacks all the support tools that make Yugi and Kaiba's decks for comparison work as well as they do.

Shoutouts to the fact Mokuba had equip spells that boost defense, that you couldn't equip on a monster that was set face down as defense mode monsters do. So his 800 def monsters had to survive a battle phase and get attacked for it to do anything.
Rhyme took his Dig Beak and rammed it straight into Doto's lifepoints in that 1st duel. Edit: Doto not being able to pronounce "KageNingen" despite being a DB and Naruto fan is peak comedy 😂
I personally love original vanilla monsters, they always had some cool description/lore behind them and the designs were so cool. Current YGO is great and there are so many cards out now, but the oldschool cards will forever be my favorite

When the season 1 of duel monsters was getting worked on it was based on the manga and that at the time they were literally making up the rules of the game as they went along since it was a manga first and then a card game/show. It's why there was so much absolute non sense going on, like attacking the moon or falling floatation rings on a monster taking out other monsters.
When Doto had Sword Hunter out and was feeling so confident in his OG duel that there couldn't be shenanigans and Rhyme had, of all things, Hane Hane set to ruin his lofty goals everyone who played OG Yugioh was like "Yup....been there. A lot when these two were popular actually." XD What fun OG Yugioh can produce. Okay in Mokuba's defense he didn't have to duel much and was like what 9 or 10 in the few shots where he duels so his deck choices are probably not great but by Duelist Kingdom standards remember anything you can play you do but some things have effects even if they don't. Man Eating plant might have literally been a Exiled Force and his big ass dragons and hydras were likely able to do crazy things. Though I'm going to say it again Duel Links CPUs have better OG lists than whatever you guys use. I feel x1 The Ancient Rules if not a full set, should be added to decks like these with normal centric level 5 or highers but not much way to summon them or protect the material needed to bring them out! XD Seriously.
Could you do a series of protagonists duel wheel that you pick out of the six protagonists (I'm not sure if Yugioh 7 in here but if is him too) and you make a deck consist of anime, manga and games and the but you could mix it up the wheel with the protagonists rivals they had

Set Rule: No hand trap monsters(unless that hand trap belongs to that character, or archetype that character runs i.e. Effect Veiler/Yusei, Battle Fader/Jack Atlas, Kuriboh/Yugi[yugi gave jaden wing kuriboh so technically it’s his card on loan to another protag]) If the idea is good I can give a decent sized catalogue of a what-if deck list if the idea seems entertaining.🤔
Y’all have to go back and watch and remember the fact that in duelist kingdom there was no tribute summoning, they just played cards. That’s why the early anime decks won’t really work because the game was so different

A classic doto throws his Field advantage away for a big badass monster. only to be completely ruined by a flip effect moment. Granted Doto just needed Axe Raider... You know Rhyme talking about redoing these decks but better... I'd be interested in seeing but
