They really know how to leave space to let the music breathe. They can pile on the layers and textures of voices and guitars, but then break it down. Great band. Interesting lyrics.
It's about the structure of the band being broken, the chain, due to the complex relationships within. It is also one of the most perfect complete songs ever composed .
best song ever, The instrumental in the middle, was recreated and used as a theme tune for Formula 1 in the uk for many a years, the high octane energy of F1 racing fits so well.
I highly recommend watching Fleetwood Mac perform the chain in the 1997 live concert/album The Dance. It is very cool to see them years after this came out, singing live and killing it. I never see anybody do a reaction to that and it’s such a great song/ performance. Great reaction♥️
The solo bass guitar leading to the screaming guitars at the end was adopted as a theme for introducing Grand Prix racing coverage here in the UK. As a hybrid of several incomplete compositions it is a piece of accidental genius displaying tenderness, frustration and rage showing a passionate relationship coming to breaking point and the recriminations starting to surface. NB. The Beatles 'A Day in the Life' is also two incomplete songs sewn together to brilliant effect, so you might want to explore that too.
My sister got to see them out on this tour. I was a little too young and didn't get to go and I'm so jealous! LOL.. this is such a great album and great song!! Thanks for another great reaction video!!
My late mother's favorite band, and Stevie was her favorite singer. I grew up enjoying hundreds of hours of FM, and named my fraternal twins Stevie (g) and Nikki (b) in homage to Stevie and my mother.
It's Gypsy music. I can see why you feel a little country but the folkie gypsy is, for me, the BEST. I LOVE WATCHING YOU. I hope you get to do a reaction to "Gypsy" ❣️❣️❣️🎶
Lol!! My elder sis knows every single lyric on the entire Rumours album...I played it on REPEAT every single night forever. Her bdrm was under mine!! 😂🤣 This entire LP is worth you attention...try Christine "Songbird" and Lindsey "Go Your Own Way" leading vocals. OR ANYTHING FM PLEASE!! ❤🥳👍🏽
Love how you dip into the history and explanation of the song, but not too deeply. This helps inform your rather insightful comments. Plus you 'get' the music and really seem to enjoy the creativity.
This album is totally based on pain. Break up. Move on. Go back together. Try someone else. Break up. If you want to hear pain.... try Stevie's Silver Springs. Stevie's tour de force of song writing. It did not make it to the album it was a B-side. Which is one of the reasons she started her famous and very rewarding solo career.
SalvoG ur reaction channel is the benchmark even the chill jazz music in the BG as you scroll through Wikipedia and do your HW on the band and song before diving in to listen. Keep up the great reactions. Rumors is one of the best albums of all time and The Chain is a masterpiece.
Love this song, one of the best from this line up of the band, also check out Tusk, Go Your Own Way and Rhiannon. But to really get an understanding of the band you should check the first 2 line ups with Peter Green, songs like The Green Manalishi, Oh Well part 1, Man of the World, Black Magic Woman and Albatross all abolute winners
Hello Salvo. You gotta Chuck out they’re live performance from ‘97. Called THE DANCE. bro you will luv it. Rock on!!¡ check out Silver Springs from that concert
The Chain was a deep cut. I don’t think it was released as a single until FM reunited for 1997’s The Dance live album. The lyrics were written by Stevie Nicks and are originally much, much more sorrowful with lots of great subtext. They mark the end of her 8 year relationship with Lindsey Buckingham. The reason they don’t need to be complicated is because they are intrinsically complicated. “Chain keep us together” is the band putting their music ahead of 3 relationships ending. 2 of those relationships were 4 of the 5 band members. My greatest rock song ever. I don’t read it as western, more swampy blues. The Rumours album gets hammered for being successful instead of revered for being inspired by heartbreak no one saw coming. This wasn’t Michael Jackson’s Thriller or Saturday Night Fever, top albums that were contrived to be chart breakers. It was an album about 2 couples in the band having acrimonious splits.
Fleetwood Mac have sold more than 120 million records worldwide, making them one of the world's best-selling bands. You should listen to the first album by the group, "Buckingham and Nicks" before they joined "The Mac". The album is also called, "Buckingham and Nicks". In fact, Mick Fleetwood heard that album and they met. The rest is...
If you haven't seen the Fleetwood Mac documentary on TH-cam, it's definitely interesting and provides a lot of details about the relationships and how the band survived in spite of the interpersonal conflicts.
Great track Fleetwood Mac were getting around before led zeppelin back in the day ! In fact they played on the same card at sum stage Great harmonies and bass !
If you read the history of this band you will understand all of the songs because every song in this album reflects the relationships that were going on between the people in the band. There are two couple in this band...Mick was the exception...he was married to the sister of the woman "Layla/Something" that was married to George Harrison and Eric Clapton. The relationships were bouncing all over between every one of them and these songs reflect them all turning their feelings and reactions to the upheaval.
You need to get into some more Fleetwood Mac.....This Legendary band is still very popular today.....their album "Rumours" is still in the top 30 on Billboard Charts!!!!
U must watch the dance dvd and Fleetwood Mac destiny rules documentary actually all the documentaries out there that I can find I have purchased and they are magnificent I’m so grateful
A new country supergroup of top women artists The Highwomen did a great cover of this song a few years ago on Howard Stern show. You should check it out.
I'd love to have you react to ":Hypnotized". It's a song from earlier in their career so before Stevie Nicks and total🔥🔥🔥. Bob Welsh is lead vocal and left the group opening the way for the final cast of artists.
I know it's been a year since you reacted to this...BUT I don't see where you reacted to the LIVE Version where Stevie and Lindsey are just about screaming it at other..Oh, and Lindsey KILLS the Guitar Solo! It would be so cool if you watch it! Just Sayin'!!
Before you get overwhelmed with input re: Stevie & Lindsey, let me point out that they joined FM for their 11th LP, and this was from the 12th. These are truly great albums, but for God's sake, listen to "Spare Me a Little" from 1972 or "Say You Love Me" from 1975 to hear Christine McVie's killer piano & vocals! These are not "deep cuts," either!
There were 7 iterations of this band under the name Fleetwood Mac before the white album and Rumours. Let’s not act like this was the second/replacement group FFS, it was just the most successful. It gets hammered for being successful, because successful must be bad?
Generally there are two different Fleetwood Mac's. You have the original Peter Green's Fleetwood mac and then the girls showed up and that is the fleetwood Mac most people know, kinda. So,.. i would recommend doing a Peter Green era song next just to get a taste before ya move on. :-) But this album is one of the best ever made. I would Recommend "Oh Well" from that blues era of Fleetwood Mac w/ Peter Green. It's honestly like 2 completely different bands. :-)
IF YOU WANT TO HEAR THEIR (LINDSAY BUCKINGHAM AND STEVIE NICKS 'S VOCALS FRONT AND CENTER THE BEST, TRY "WITHOUT YOU" FROM THE "COFFEE PLANT DEMOS" (songs cut from the Buckingham/Nicks Album. Or "FROZEN LOVE" FROM THE BUCKINGHAM/NICKS ALBUM!
They were all breaking up personally but they needed to keep the band together. I can still hear you saying you would Never break the chain….Chain, keep us together.
Everybody keeps hearing some sort of Western sound to this song. I hear a kind of Balkans kind of maybe gypsy pickin' music. Maybe a Ukrainian Ukulele. You know what I mean?
Rumors......one of the best albums ever made. Period.
A PERFECT ALBUM
I agree and I'm someone who generally prefers the original Peter Green lineup. Rumours really is a perfect album
Totally agree
@@youreatoilet you are a rare specimen, everytime I see a fan of the original lineup they just insult rumours era.
💯💯💯💯
Marriages and relationships were breaking up within the band and this was the result. It's gorgeous and 100% my favorite Fleetwood Mac song.
They really know how to leave space to let the music breathe. They can pile on the layers and textures of voices and guitars, but then break it down. Great band. Interesting lyrics.
They are my all time favorite band and I know lots of songs and artists
It's about the structure of the band being broken, the chain, due to the complex relationships within. It is also one of the most perfect complete songs ever composed .
best song ever, The instrumental in the middle, was recreated and used as a theme tune for Formula 1 in the uk for many a years, the high octane energy of F1 racing fits so well.
Sara is one of my favorites.
If you can, you MUST see the live version!!!
Love that bass part that John McVie lays down. The arrangements that they put together are quite incredible.
I highly recommend watching Fleetwood Mac perform the chain in the 1997 live concert/album The Dance. It is very cool to see them years after this came out, singing live and killing it. I never see anybody do a reaction to that and it’s such a great song/ performance. Great reaction♥️
Agree 100%
Drums are killer on this.
There are so many others, live, I don't know where to begin!!!!
The soundtrack of my youth. John MCVie is such an underrated bassist. 🖤
A masterpiece.
Live concerts video are always better. Great reaction.
Great reaction. Love to see you listen and react to Hold Me by Fleetwood Mac
Tango in the night is another gem

Fleet wood mac, hypnotized.
I’ve been waiting for this one. This whole album is filled with gems. Pick one, any one & play it 🤷🏼♀️
Rumours is a great album. I also loved Mirage, my senior year in high school, 1982. One of the best rock bands period.
Can't get much better than this entire album. You could check out some of the older Fleetwood Mac,its very impressive. What a great band.
One of those albums my dad would have in the van, but on 8track which was high tech at the time. So many memories here.
Lol!! My elder sis knows every single lyric on the entire Rumours album...I played it on REPEAT every single night forever. Her bdrm was under mine!! 😂🤣
This entire LP is worth you attention...try Christine "Songbird" and Lindsey "Go Your Own Way" leading vocals.
OR ANYTHING FM PLEASE!! ❤🥳👍🏽
This song is just perfect! Everything in it is perfect!
I love your Fleetwood Mac reacts!!!! Thank you. This is my favorite song they wrote.
You coulda kept replaying it and I woulda just kept watching it…lol
Love how you dip into the history and explanation of the song, but not too deeply. This helps inform your rather insightful comments. Plus you 'get' the music and really seem to enjoy the creativity.
So glad you reacted to The Chain. Another brilliant song. Their instrumental pieces really draw you in.
Something about this song love it love You

The late 60s to the early 80s was the best music, imo . Not a bad song in the bunch. SO glad I was old enough to appreciate it.
This used to be the theme tune for F1 racing on the BBC back in the 90’s
SalvoG ur reaction channel is the benchmark even the chill jazz music in the BG as you scroll through Wikipedia and do your HW on the band and song before diving in to listen. Keep up the great reactions. Rumors is one of the best albums of all time and The Chain is a masterpiece.
Highly recommend a full album reaction to Rumours. Sonic masterpiece!!!!
Check out The Dance from 1997. All the Fleetwood Mac greats live. The Chain and Silver Springs are a few of my favorites.
This isn’t one incredible song, it’s two incredible songs rolled into one!
Love this song, one of the best from this line up of the band, also check out Tusk, Go Your Own Way and Rhiannon. I highly recommend watching this song live from '82. One of the best live performances of any band ever.
This was my first exposure to Fleetwood Mac, the beginning of the faster tempo section is the theme tune to BBC Formula 1 coverage!
Everyone of a certain age in the UK knows the riff for sure! Always half expect to hear Murray Walker at the end!
Hello Salvo. You gotta Chuck out they’re live performance from ‘97. Called THE DANCE. bro you will luv it. Rock on!!¡ check out Silver Springs from that concert
this song always brings out the nasty in me.
📽🎞🎞Fleetwood Mac🎞🎞🎥👀
This whole album is incredible. Some hidden gems are on the album Tusk . Angel, Sisters of the Moon, Think about Me and Sara.
None of those songs are on the Rumors Album, these are: Dreams, You Make Loving Fun, Second Hand News, Don’t Stop, Go Your Own Way.
@@rollotomassi6232 I wrote the album these songs were on!
@@rollotomassi6232 "are on the album tusk" they literally wrote on tusk not rumours
Tusk itself is my favorite song of the album tusk
Their whole catalog is fantastic meat and potatoes!!!!🎶🎼🎵🥁🎧🎷🎤🎸🎹🤘🤘🤘
They had personal and professional ties (chains) that kept them together. Even when they hated each other's guts they still had a show to do.

crazy how identical they sounded on "the dance" I was only 3 when they reunited but I've heard them from birth and have been in love ever since.
Gotta react to Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer by Heart. Hidden gem
My favorite is Big Love with just Stevie & Lindsey on Latenight with Letterman. So gutteral.
If you haven't seen the Fleetwood Mac documentary on TH-cam, it's definitely interesting and provides a lot of details about the relationships and how the band survived in spite of the interpersonal conflicts.
You should react to the 1982 live version of The Chain, it goes pretty crazy
That version blows, The Dance is way better.
This band has a very interesting chemistry - look into it , its a good read . love your channel !
Yeah, I could hear this in an old cowboy movie. Lol.
Great track

Love this one!
The 1982 live version of this is as intense of a performance between two bandmates as has ever been recorded
You may love to look into ARCHIVE, AGAIN or BULLETS ✌🏻

Love the F1 reference at 5:33 :)
Everything about this song is great as is everything about the album. Yeah, Lindsey and Stevie sound fantastic together.
ty for the post / well done 🕶
I remember when me and the band I was in did an awesome cover of this
U must watch the dance dvd and Fleetwood Mac destiny rules documentary actually all the documentaries out there that I can find I have purchased and they are magnificent I’m so grateful
The live video The Dance has a great version
Stevie doesnt get credit sometimes for her harmony and backing vocals. They definitely take this tune to a higher place.
Thanks
A new country supergroup of top women artists The Highwomen did a great cover of this song a few years ago on Howard Stern show. You should check it out.
This album stands with Boston Boston and Carole King's Tapestry as one of the perfect albums of the rock era.
ALWAYS play the live version.
if you want to hear a loud version watch the 1982 live Chain on youtube
I'd love to have you react to ":Hypnotized". It's a song from earlier in their career so before Stevie Nicks and total🔥🔥🔥. Bob Welsh is lead vocal and left the group opening the way for the final cast of artists.
Look at 'April Wine'
Listen to Florence and the Machine’s cover at Glastonbury-live. She did it justice. Which is rare.
