    Really love the effects of the acrylic ink for underpainting. Must get some right away. Also love the idea of small daily paintings, not necessarily masterpieces, but just to create work study pieces to improve technique. I find far too much time goes by between paintings probably because I do feel that I must spend a lot of time at it. I see from your tip and demo, that isn't at all necessary. Thank you, Bethany! I love your tutorials.

    I've been painting all my life and for the last 20 years learning to use pastels. I just stumbled on you and love your work.
    I need some looseness and some brighter colors in my work and thank you for new ideas and techniques to accomplish this.

    Just got into painting after getting early retirement. I did a lot of drawing when a boy but not painting. Tried pastel work at my classes and love it. Your videos are a great inspiration and your hints and tips invaluable. Well done! X

    Your comment about painting daily is a fit for me as well. I'm a beginner and a sponge for learning. I heard another artist also say how important it is to not treat each work as a masterpiece. Meaning that it is important to be willing to take chances. These practice pieces are our playground!
    I appreciate you, allowing us to learn from you.

    I don't do pastels but I do enjoy your videos. Just out of curiosity, what is the advantage of using ink over a thinned, opaque acrylic paint for an under painting?

    Hi Bethany! I am very new to pastel. I have only taken 1 good drawing class like 40 yrs ago so this is a big stretch for me. I love it and it's hard too! Would you share the size the pipe insolation is you use in this painting? Thanks!

    What would you recommend as the 3 best acrylic ink colours for painting foliage? Burnt umber etc? (I don't mean brands.)

    I've been thinking about trying pastels, and I appreciate how you communicate so much encouraging and instructive description that explains what, how and why. You are a good teacher. Thank you. One question please: when you used the acrylic ink, I wondered how that compares to a similar use of watercolor. I've also observed some using alcohol with pastel for an underwash, and wonder what's the basis of selection. Thank you for your consideration.

    • @BethanyFields
      @BethanyFields  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are similar but watercolor is a bit more transparent. The acrylic ink can be very dark and opaque unless thinned. I also use alcohol washes a lot! It mostly depends on the colors I'm trying to achieve in the underpainting. :)

    good afternoon young lady! good tutorial, you have great voice for this, since you avoid breathing dust,is there problem with it on skin? where is your Rx accent? thank you for posting.

    • @BethanyFields
      @BethanyFields  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you CK! If you have any broken areas on your skin (cuts/scrapes) it isn't good to let the dust get in there. Some pastels have harmful elements that can hurt you over time...(as is with most art supplies). Many people use gloves! Not sure what you mean by "Rx" accent - but I am from Texas!

    The water and ink won't ruin the sanded paper?

    • @BethanyFields
      @BethanyFields  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like using alcohol for this paper - here is a list of the papers/products I use. The paper is formulated for wet techniques! Some papers are not, it's important to test before doing this on a larger piece! www.bethanyfieldsblog.com/resources
