The one called KK is the same tree that comes directly from Portugal. I'm sure of this. If you look on ebay you can usually find a seller who will ship you cuttings. Just make sure you get some from Portugal and you will see what I mean.
Do you ever cut these all the way down pre winter storage or in spring? I have a few older BM trees that I acquired and I am wondering what is best for them in prep for winter. I’m in the North East. Pennsylvania to be exact. Thank you for any feedback you can provide.
The UC Davis repository for Fig cuttings is now closed. Too many people were abusing their kindness for rare figs and then turning around and selling the same cuttings on eBay for 100's of dollars. SO they stopped that... :-(
Hello, are you offering any small black madeiras air layers anytime soon? Thank you. Jon is out and KK and Harvey do not currently have any availability right now?
One of my figs in the hoop house has green figs about the size as these not sure that we will have warm enough weather for them to ripen. My two lemon trees started from seed one a Myers lemon and one just a store bought lemon are both very healthy but I have never given them any fertilizer what would you suggest that I use and when, now or in the spring etc.
I purchased a couple of citrus trees from Four Winds Growers and they carry a fertilizer called Romeo which is 24-14-14 and the citrus respond to that but I also just use miracle grow and it seems to work too. I have the grapefruit I started from seed in a mostly bark mix and I fertilize with miracle grow and they are really growing fast. I think the Romeo fertilizer says to fertilize every two weeks for outdoor citrus. I think citrus are heavy feeders. You could also fertilize every time you water with a diluted mix. Hopefully that hoop house will extent your season long enough to ripen those figs.
I thought they were swarming too when I first noticed this behavior. I follow Jeff Horchoff's channel and he recently put up a video on catching a late swarm and he mentioned a saying about when in July let them fly meaning that you should leave late swarms alone because it might be an indication that they are sick and where forced out of the hive by heavy mite counts or something else. Bees don't usually swarm this late in the season I guess. I did get another deep in case they are honey bound and need more room. I'll do an inspection and maybe add it if they need it.
With cuttings you can start more trees but have to wait a couple of seasons to get a mature tree to fruit and with the air layer you get a larger plant right away that can produce figs sooner.
Thanks for sharing the video! I’m super excited I recently bought from you a UCDavis black madeira fig tree on eBay! 😃
please let me know if and when you will list the Black Madeira for sale, thanks.

I would root prune but I would not cut them completely down just to have to start over again.

What is the preference. Air layered plant or a plant from cuttings?
