It’s funny how arguably the best flat ground skater of the last five years gets 30 times more hate on their skill than the most trash skater does. I always thought that the skate culture was a bunch of insecure kids, who valued social hierarchy, and fashion more than they did the art of skateboarding. The skating culture to me is like an evolution of high school on wheels. Skateboarding is a sport that requires skill. It’s unfortunate that people view it as a fashion show or a popularity contest Jeff it’s unfortunate that you’re too good at skating and do you think outside of the box I think you would have a lot more success if you stuck to kick flips, you smiled a lot more, and you wore some make up and eyeliner.

He does crazy tricks down huge stuff but a lot of his style seems like flinging the board out into some crazy rotation and then just 100% commitment to landing it. I'm serious, go watch his parts at like .25x speed and see how many times his board lands on the ground before his feet even land back on the board.

In acrobatics, for instance, there're strict rules on how each move should look which makes it spectacular to watch. I'd like skateboarding to go somewhat this direction as well. Even though me bitching about the style in a game of skate might not change the outcome, I feel that this point of view must be expressed. Talking substance: in a BATB match between Shaun and Sean a lot of people complained about unsportsmanlike behaviour of Sean Davis and the game was rematched.

Acrobatics are spectacular to watch, but I'd argue it's not simply because of form, but also because of how difficult the maneuvers are to pull off. Also, I would argue that strictness of acrobatics can be applied to skate boarding, but it's as simple as did the kick flip move the way a kick flip is suppose to? Yes? Well, then it's a kickflip - just like how something like a 360 double back flip in acrobatics would be judged.. Nothing about personal flair (or lack there of) should be taken into account.

He skates like a kid, and what I mean by that is it's like he never grew leg strength or something to actually pop past knee high, tbh he doesn't really even get up to knee high it's like shin height max, it's so weird because he can land some hard tricks with that lackluster pop. He can't really get good pop ever. However, his parts he's done some crazy shit you don't see anybody else doing down things.

I've had this thought too. Decided against it though because everyone would just quickly throw the hardest, weirdest, most complicated tricks at each other. Games would be very short then and you wouldn't really "get to know" how the other person skates, if you know what I mean.
@@lfgang9994 Also when it is not alternated you can throw hard, odd or dirty tricks, and the opponent may lost without having neither one offense turn. Lately the level and variety of tricks is increasing, if one want to play unfairly he can win any match. Good rules should not relay on the fair play. of the contenders. Moreover the games would be less similar. You can increase the letters if it become too short: for instance skaters or skateboarding.
@@supermarcoa With the change, the incentive to actually land your trick would be lower because it would be your turn soon again anyway. It would be less about consistency. Not saying that's all bad - we would see more spectacular tricks - but there would also be way more failed attempts. It's a matter of taste really, whatever one prefers. But I think most skaters wouldn't like the change because they like consistency to watch. However, it's a fun idea to experiment with. Might play it like that against friends the next time.
@@lfgang9994 Sure the consistency on basic tricks would be less important, but still if you do not land the trick and lose your offence turn you may put yourself in troubles (as losing the service in tennis) so you have some good incentive on landing your offence trick. Also from tennis we may import that you must win with 2 letter advantage. On my taste the game would be more spectacular and less repetitive (and less arbitrary). In the transition game of skate I seen some alternated game, it look more fair to me.

Redos are typically allowed either for setting or copying. They are typically there for minor infractions (toe drag, sliding, etc.) when you land the trick but it wasn't clean enough. It is also typical to be more lenient for the person copying the trick so what may call for a redo when setting is allowable on defense. If you miss completely you don't get a redo. I think the method of play in most games of skate is flawed. Allowing one person to continue setting tricks unless they miss a set doesn't help make for interesting games. I prefer games where the skaters take turns to set a trick. More common in BMX it seems.

Even the biggest Jeff super fan should be able to spot that Jamie G was wayyyyy off his usual game. At least 4/5 of his letters were on tricks that he can do blindfolded 99% of the time.

I understand the mix-up between the impossible and 360 shuv but I will say I'm a little disappointed in the call on this specific example here because while they look similar, it is possible to throw a 360 shuv so low and with such little pop that it doesn't wrap the foot at all at all and definitely appears so much less like an impossible that the call shouldn't be missed.. in my humble opinion of course lol.
I do congratulate him on this win, he figured Jamie out I can tell. People keep saying Jamie was tired, NO...there is still tricks he has a hard time with...in the braille vid he said he struggled with switch front side flips for a long time and learned them recently by doing them the muska way. Jeff has some crazy tricks for his part, mainly no pop going fast gaps but still, he does extremely hard and dangerous tricks down them. But here's the thing, he's always got a shitty ass attitude, ever since I first seen him...his attitude sucks and that hasn't changed tbh. He does crazy tricks down huge stuff but a lot of his style seems like flinging the board out into some crazy rotation and then just 100% commitment to landing it. I'm serious, go watch his parts at like .25x speed and see how many times his board lands on the ground before his feet even land back on the board.

In acrobatics, for instance, there're strict rules on how each move should look which makes it spectacular to watch. I'd like skateboarding to go somewhat this direction as well. Even though me bitching about the style in a game of skate might not change the outcome, I feel that this point of view must be expressed. Talking substance: in a BATB match between Shaun and Sean a lot of people complained about unsportsmanlike behaviour of Sean Davis and the game was rematched.

Acrobatics are spectacular to watch, but I'd argue it's not simply because of form, but also because of how difficult the maneuvers are to pull off.
Also, I would argue that strictness of acrobatics can be applied to skate boarding, but it's as simple as did the kick flip move the way a kick flip is suppose to? Yes? Well, then it's a kickflip - just like how something like a 360 double back flip in acrobatics would be judged.. Nothing about personal flair (or lack there of) should be taken into account.

He skates like a kid, and what I mean by that is it's like he never grew leg strength or something to actually pop past knee high, tbh he doesn't really even get up to knee high it's like shin height max, it's so weird because he can land some hard tricks with that lackluster pop. He can't really get good pop ever. However, his parts he's done some crazy shit you don't see anybody else doing down things.

Everyone loves to hate on Jeff saying he has no style and his tricks are sloppy. Skating isn’t all about style or “cleanness”, it’s about self expression through your skating. Jeff does tricks that literally no one else in the world can do. His skating is incredible and no one does it like him. I will never understand why he gets the amount of hate he does. Even when he wins everyone can’t help but hate.

Later or before skaters will understand that, in a fair game of skate, offense has to be alternate in order to limit the advantage of the first starter.
I've had this thought too. Decided against it though because everyone would just quickly throw the hardest, weirdest, most complicated tricks at each other. Games would be very short then and you wouldn't really "get to know" how the other person skates, if you know what I mean.
@@lfgang9994 Also when it is not alternated you can throw hard, odd or dirty tricks, and the opponent may lost without having neither one offense turn. Lately the level and variety of tricks is increasing, if one want to play unfairly he can win any match. Good rules should not relay on the fair play. of the contenders. Moreover the games would be less similar. You can increase the letters if it become too short: for instance skaters or skateboarding.
@@supermarcoa With the change, the incentive to actually land your trick would be lower because it would be your turn soon again anyway. It would be less about consistency. Not saying that's all bad - we would see more spectacular tricks - but there would also be way more failed attempts. It's a matter of taste really, whatever one prefers. But I think most skaters wouldn't like the change because they like consistency to watch. However, it's a fun idea to experiment with. Might play it like that against friends the next time.
@@lfgang9994 Sure the consistency on basic tricks would be less important, but still if you do not land the trick and lose your offence turn you may put yourself in troubles (as losing the service in tennis) so you have some good incentive on landing your offence trick. Also from tennis we may import that you must win with 2 letter advantage. On my taste the game would be more spectacular and less repetitive (and less arbitrary). In the transition game of skate I seen some alternated game, it look more fair to me.

Redos are typically allowed either for setting or copying. They are typically there for minor infractions (toe drag, sliding, etc.) when you land the trick but it wasn't clean enough. It is also typical to be more lenient for the person copying the trick so what may call for a redo when setting is allowable on defense. If you miss completely you don't get a redo.
I think the method of play in most games of skate is flawed. Allowing one person to continue setting tricks unless they miss a set doesn't help make for interesting games. I prefer games where the skaters take turns to set a trick. More common in BMX it seems.

I do congratulate him on this win, he figured Jamie out I can tell. People keep saying Jamie was tired, NO...there is still tricks he has a hard time with...in the braille vid he said he struggled with switch front side flips for a long time and learned them recently by doing them the muska way. Jeff has some crazy tricks for his part, mainly no pop going fast gaps but still, he does extremely hard and dangerous tricks down them. But here's the thing, he's always got a shitty ass attitude, ever since I first seen him...his attitude sucks and that hasn't changed tbh. So tbh I could care less that he won this, he's really not THAT good at flat I know Jamie has more tricks than him and he could definitely beat him, especially if he studied Jeff like Jeff studied him.
