    A RCT... very very nice! - Gratz!
    - Which reminds me that I still need to complete mine... I'm embarrassed now, because I bought the board, ordered some of the components from DigiKey I think, not wanting to order everything, since I have a bit of a stockpile I need to use up first, got it assembled up to about 97%-98% before discovering that I was missing the IC and the relays right next to the SD card reader, and a few other components, ordered those and they've already arrived eons ago. But being the black-belt "I'll do it tomorrow" expert-procrastinator that I am... aaahh! - I eventually freaking forgot about it.
    I already have the BackBit Chip Tester Pro... so, if I can otherwise get my head out of my *BLEEP*, I'd reckon that I'll be more than fully covered.
    - Anyway, thanks to you and AmericanRetro·Shop for reminding me just how big of a buffoon I really am.

    Our local "Maker's Space" got together and purchased one of these for the space. I got to build it, which was fun. They're so useful. Not perfect but so much better than the "cheapo" memory testers out there.

    A real nice and pretty pricy tool. I built one of these myself last year and it´s amazing how Stephan still pushes the limits further and further of this thing. It has helped me a lot in the last year already. Progframming the firmware however is a bit tricky as you need to set fuse bits before programming the firmware into the main chip. As a little quirk, you have to do this if you want to update the firmware and you need an ISP programmer or use an arduino etc. to manage that. You have to read well through the quite big but brilliant documentation .Well, building itself is not that difficult if you have the main IC soldered already. I bought mine from Stephan himself. Be glad, that yoiu have all the parts delivered already. "Normally" you have to trace all the parts since you never get all the parts from one seller, trust me, and this alone will take you a very long time ;)

      Yes, it is really a nice tool. I bought mine directly from Stephan so it was not that pricey. I used the prepared shopping carts and ordered from Digikey. It's quick and I had all the components at once. But since almost standard components are used, you can get them from elsewhere.

    Wow. Congratulations. I've been lusting after one of those since I saw it on Adrian's channel. Just can't get myself to part with the cash. That's an incredibly generous donation. And you're the right guy to make good use of it. Well done.

    I bought one about 18 months ago. It is invaluable and has saved me a lot of time in my restorations. So glad to see the generosity and support you are getting. Enjoy the RCT.

    It seems really cool but Adrian Black has his share of issues with it, esp when it comes to testing RAM. His theory is that due to the level shifting, when testing TTL (5v) parts on a circuit that's mostly CMOS (3.3v) you get certain false positives and false negatives.

    • @herbertschuster9088
      @herbertschuster9088 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @NukleOn The RCT works with 5v. Please check check out the extensive documentation first before you post nonsense. Adrian had issues with two cheap eBay testers (vid 0083 in channel 2). These have nothing to do with the RCT.

    • @Nukle0n
      @Nukle0n 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@herbertschuster9088 What are you talking about? He has one and he has shown it plenty of times. And yes it works with 5v, but the logic on the RCT itself is modern 3.3v chips, which has to interface with the obsolete 5v parts. Will you please behave and not call people names.

    • @herbertschuster9088
      @herbertschuster9088 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Nukle0n This is the video Adrian talks about level shifting and where he has problems: th-cam.com/video/QljsIIPl-SE/w-d-xo.html The level shifting is relevant when the output drivers have 3.3v and the voltage must be shifted to 5v. Cheap testers use a simple mosfet for this (or none at all). The reviewed testers (at least one) uses also a 5v mpu, so there might be other problems with it (it was the correct one I think). The second one seems to use a 3.3v MPU with 5v tolerant inputs. In that case the dram (address, data input, control) is driven with 3.3v and it accepts 5v (data output from the dram). in that case voltage levels will not be exact. No apologize. Check the devices before talking about them in an unqualified manner.
