Y mother was just sent to the ER after we called 911 because i had no idea what was wrong with her. I was freaking out like crazy. It was very scary because i felt so unprepared and just wanted to help her as quickly as I could. She was shaky and not responding coherently. I got her some water and tried talking with her calmly as i called 911. They arrived quickly (not as quickly as I would have liked) and the EMS guy was very smart, very knowledgeable and worked in an efficient and non anxious way. It was calming. He assessed the situation. Checked her levels. She was at 34. An hour and a half before she was at 119. They gave her what i think was a glucose pack (?) and an IV really quick. And within minutes she started to come out of it. Not really knowing what was going on but still kinda shaky and woozy. But she was back to coherent. They took her to the hospital to make sure she doesnt "crash" again. And Im sitting here watching TH-cam videos on how I can prepare for this better next time. Im still very jittery after witnessing my Mom in that state and I need to be more knowledgeable on her medical condition so i can help her better like the EMS guy did. Was super impressive watching him work. Thank you to all first responders. You guys are angels!

I am hypo unaware. Dont have shaky warning signs. Mine dropped to 28. I lost my eyesight..everything was super bright white. When my sugar went back up, I got my eyesight back. Thank God I wasn't alone🙏

I have seen patients who been 59 or lower and show no symptoms of Hypoglycemia. Working as an EMT. We would only give that to patients who are possibly unconscious and not aware of their surroundings. But we would give the injection to them if medical control allows us per protocol procedure.

Exactly.... i would say we give it to them when they are so low 22 and so... because iv seen 40 and the person is still ok. Id administer tge injection at visibly low 22 or unresponsive. I wouldnt have a person take this injection at 50 or 30 and they are awake and fine. Id feed quick candy... something to spike

i am so confused by all these numbers people keep using. i had to have sugar water when mine went down to 1.9, but there are people with blood sugar of 60 that are hypoglycemic??

@@feeltheillinois In the US we use mg/dL, instead of mmol/dL. I wonder if we'll ever switch to SI units... probably not. I've noticed that in my personal experience many Doctors offices are starting to use SI units, but most people I've met don't unless they're working in hard sciences.

I have been at 50, feeling little tired/low energy but still fine overall, but the scary thing is that it can drop from 50 to 30 in 10 minutes if its peak insulin time.

Tell me why my doctors don’t want to prescribe me glucagon even though I’ve told them I get as low as 22 sometimes and I worry for my life when that happens. They just say “oh, just eat” like really, obviously but if it’s that low and it’s dropping faster than I could chew then they shouldn’t have to think twice about prescribing this. Ive been so low that I freak out and cry and eat so much and it’s still low. It’s been so traumatic. I’ve had diabetes for about 10 years and they always either say “just eat or drink something sweet” or they’ll say that it’s hard to get that prescribed. It shouldn’t be “hard” when someone’s life is in danger and they could literally pass out in their own home without this medication any second. The last time I was at 22 I almost thought I wasn’t going to make it because even though I kept eating I could feel my bloom sugar dropping fast as I ate and ate, and I didn’t even have time to worry all I could do was keep eating cookies and drinking juice as fast as I could. I was getting full…. Worst part is no one was around me at the moment I was low and so I was on my own fighting the low and hoping I would not pass out and perhaps… die. It’s a miracle that I am still alive. I choke up when I think about it sometimes. 😣😔😭

Been there, done that, many times. Last night I was there. My doc doesn't believe me when I say at times my insulin stores somewhere in my system, and then releases when it's ready. The bottom falls out without warning and within three minutes I can go from 150 to 50, and continuing to go down further, fast. I've had thirties many times. 27 twice. And I know the "I'm not gonna make it feeling". Begging God for help. And the food and glucose supplement isn't working, that is, not until an hour later. bs slowly rises, then, you go to sleep, wake up three hours later with a 550, because all that crap you ate finally went to work. My indo just says, "well, you just shouldn't have eaten so much. When you're out of you mind in mental and physical pain, begging for God to help, and eating as fast as you can, "shouldn't have" is not on the list. Right now my insulin isn't working till hours and hours later, and the food isn't kicking in till hours and hours later. And to non-diabetics, who have advice, "DON'T". You don't have a clue as to what diabetes is until you actually have it. I grew up with my father and brother suffering from it, I saw it every day, and had no clue as to what they were going through. I've had it now myself for 35 years, and you don't get better at controlling it. It controls you.
I came here for the same reason as others, I don't know how I can take another low below 50.
