    Im 62 years old..in 1978 as a ward of the state with no family support i was sent to RDH A WARD FOR THE CRIMINALLY INSANE . What happened in there haunts me still. Effecting every day of my life

    I am way to old to recall the woman who was locked up at14/16..After a lifetime locked up and medicated I think she was free at 70 or 80
    Dr Jacob Matthews whom I met 20 years ago has the full story.. My grandfather left lots of tales after working in the hospitals.. It's not as bad as people Think.. It's worse

      We also must remember that lots of medications that are used today were not available in the past, the only options were seclusion and restraint, both used as best practice at the time.

      Yeah, I don’t think she is talking only about the barbaric ‘treatments’. Not to mention some of the ‘treatments’ are on par with the condemned experiments done by nazis in WWII. We should focus on learning from this dark element of Tasmanian history, not defending it.
