    I'd recommend getting high quality set of pads for the helmet, those are ok for short time use but if your planning on longer trips it makes a world of difference.

      @@coyotesden5963 so by far the best I've found are the 4d pads from tnvc but their around $100, if heard good things about the hard head veterans comfort plus pads for $40 but haven't tried them myself. I've tried every Amazon pad system and wouldn't recommend any aside from team wendy but again their 100 plus so it depends on budget. The pads are the hardest thing to get right in my mind because I want everything comfortable. I'd go with the tnvc pads for hard use and hhv for light to moderate use. Personally if it helps

    The threading on the battery cap looks coarse enough to 3d print a adapter that holds down contacts for a connection to the back of the helmet, where you could have a nice batterpack instead of the weights.

    the main issue i see here is the fma shroud, is very weak and can break. it would be terrible for your nods to tumble down the stairs. at a minimum get a retention setup for your nods so when it does break (the shroud) it dont get droped on the ground. pvs 7 are great and very good option

      @@mannyfaces3631 Do yourself a favor and save a little more to get a pvs14 as your intro to night vision. You have the same image intensification potential with both the pvs7 and pvs14 as they are each single tube systems. Yes, the biocular (not binocular) view of the pvs7 is easier for new folks to view and understand but you still have the same 40 degree field of view of a pvs14 and the point of view is even further from your face and centered which is less natural than in line with an eye. Additionally, you have an unoccluded eye when using a pvs14 that adds situational awareness and can see you ambient lighting for contrast and a better understanding of the area.

      @@coyotesden5963 7's are perfectly acceptable imo, gen 2 or 3. A lot of NV elitist out there talk a lot of smack on them, but in reality there are plenty of situations where I would rather run 7's than 14's (both eyes seeing the same thing tends to lead to quicker reaction times). Great setup, I have been running 7's for over 2 decades now, and even though I have a better quality set of 14's, I still use my 7's more often than not when looking for wildlife in my backyard and things like that. My setup (and first foray into NODs) is virtually identical. The shroud screws (except the top) aren’t exposed so it’s a little hard to do but I rotated the “nuts” off the front of the shroud and put a drop of blue Loctite on the The exposed threads and screwed them back on as tight as I could.
    The helmet is awful, the pads suck. I got mine for $19 as an Amazon open box deal though so I can’t really complain. I saw someone recommended upgraded pads in the comments and I will say it’s probably a good idea.
    Personally I took the rubber eye cups off my 7s when they’re on the helmet so I have a little better peripheral vision around the NOD itself.
    What weapon laser are you using?

    • @coyotesden5963
      @coyotesden5963  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching! I greatly appreciate the input. What are a reputable set of pads for a bump helmet like this? As far as a laser, I’m currently not in a financial position to buy an ir light/illuminator but I’ve considered buying the holosun 321 and upgrading to something better when I’m able to purchase a pvs 14 or perhaps a set of them.

    • @billclay3643
      @billclay3643 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coyotesden5963 Now I personally haven’t upgraded the pads because I’m saving up for a new helmet altogether, one that is ballistic rated. But what I’ve seen recommended as a decent budget option is the FMA helmet pad kit, it looks to be about $20 and you kinda have to gut your current helmet and replace the inside with these larger all encompassing pads.
      Laser wise I had a Steiner TOR and I really did not like the adjustments at all, they were very loose, and the laser itself sat crooked on every rail I tried it on. I was seriously looking at that Holosun but I bought a PERST 1 instead, it’s not at all like the PERST 4 and it’s kind of crude and blocky but it works great and was only like $180 shipped.
      I have it paired with a Streamlight TLR-VIR (the $120 one that is vis light and IR light only, it has no aiming laser) and I am happy with the performance of it paired with my PERST. I got a lot of stuff hanging off my hand guard now though 😂
