Hi i have long fine wavy curly hair its always in a bun i have 6 kids and dont have time for much what would u suggest my face is long ???? Im 41.so soon im gonna have to start coloring to cover the gray i u think i should leave long or cut shoulder length ???
same girlie, mines down to my booty and i love it and it’s like the one thing that makes me special i guess and i have a hair appointment tomorrow night so i have to decide what i want to do soon haha! either cutting it to my shoulders and donating or just a trim :,)
If you cut it of it will grow back if you don't like your short hair. Just do it. It's not life changing.. I donated 30 centimeters twice in 4 years. I like my hair as a Bob but also when it is long. A Bob is so much easier for me. I just blow it out and it is good to go.
STOP! Hair grows back...life is short and u should try anything...don’t overthink...and don’t say something doesn’t look good...everything look good in its own way
Ty i needed this im scared that my hair might take long cuz in my family it grows back fast but google says it takes 10 months for 5 inches to come back and i have been excited for weeks and all of a sudden im scared
I so agree with you! The thing is that I’ve cut my hair from long to short two times now and regretted it both times (even tho I loved it) and I swore to never cut it short again. But here I am. And let’s face it, I’m gonna make that mistake again lol
Cutting my hair (just above shoulder length) was the best thing I ever did for my look. I'm lazy and don't spend time styling my hair, never have, but my hair is fine, flat, and a little wavy naturally. With less weight on the ends my hair has so much more natural volume and I can just scrunch it up without it getting tangled to give it more texture. Just thought I'd mention as a counter point in case anyone is put off by this video, I don't find short hair any more difficult than long hair.
Thank you so much! My hair is also flat and thin and naturally wavy and slightly curly at the ends. I’ve been debating if I should cut it right above the shoulder and now I’m convinced I should! Thanks for your input!!
I also have fine, wavy hair, sometimes looks very curly too. I was thinking of cutting my hair just below my shoulders. I feel fine hair looks even finer when its below ur waistline. Thank you for your input. Will consider cutting it now ☺
Your hair type sounds exactly like mine wow. I feel so weird because my hair is not really straight but it’s not curly either. It gets tangled extremely easily and if I don’t want to have a mess in my head I have to brush it for half an hour. No one understands my pain
alma1015 That's all fine and dandy, but there is something to say about a bad haircut in reference to your face and body shape. Some haircuts look more slimming....or the opposite. I guess if you love it, but I think most of us agree, you'd rather have one that is more flattering to our body and face type.
Amy Ann I say this because I was told by a 'hairstylist' I shouldn't have short hair because of my round face, well long behold I have had short hair ever since and I love it & always get complimented on it. All I'm saying is don't be afraid of change, make it work. Don't over think Everything. It's just hair. 💁🏻💁🏻
YESSS! completely agreed! life's too short not to experiment with hair. I have a buzzcut (previous pixie), my face is round, but guys sidle close to me even more now than when I had waist-long hair, ironically enough. it's all about your smile, your attitude. don't overthink
yes, but loving the concept of a haircut and loving what it looks on you or what it makes you look like are two separate very different things. you have to love both.
I went from long to pixie cut on a whim after a stylist convinced me it would suit me perfectly. I regretted it immediately and every day since. I'm still working on growing it back out 18 months later. Everyone told me the pixie looked cute, but I never felt like "myself." And that's really important. You've gotta feel comfortable first and foremost.
Ellen W your story intrigues me, it's amazing how experiences differ :D in my case, I went out on a whim and decided to cut my hair in a short pixie after years of having waist-long hair. I absolutely loved it! I felt free and prettier than ever, I loved myself when I looked at the mirror. now, a year later after trimming it every two months, I got a buzzcut at home. i'm ready to try to have long hair again, but mostly to start over from zero and enjoy all the pixie lengths on the way :D I say every girl should get a pixie or buzzcut at least once in their lives, just to experiment :) hang in there, tho. you'll have your amazing long hair soon!
Fire-Eye Why should everyone experience a pixie or buzz cut in their life?? I doesn't achieve a thing except loathing yourself in the mirror. I couldn't think of anything worse. Everyone has the own style.
Scarlett Milson just to get the experience :) there are many girls i've known in my travels that always ask themselves "what if..?" best way to find out is to just do it c: dont be so sour, i'm sure you have very fine features, regardless of how your hair is. We dont (or shouldn't, I should say, so I dont offend you) need to depend on hair to feel pretty or girly.. and if you end up hating short hair, it's just hair. it'll grow back. it's more important to me a fond smile, eyes that light up whenever you talk about the things you love ,what fills you with passion. My eyes stray more to that than your appearance
Fire-Eye yes i agree. i always had realy big problem with cutting my hair, so bad i started crying over an inch😂 but when i felt brave enough to cut it short i felt more confident then ever. now i love getting my hair cut and trying something else 😁
Hi no one is going to read this comment but I have hip length hair and Im going to cut it to my shoulders and you should do it aswell if you want to because it will grow back and while it is growing back you can just style it in a way to suit you
I'm planning on cutting my hair, but honestly, I don't think these videos are necessary. First of all: hair grows back. If you don't like it, you won't die. Second: Face and body shape? Should that prevent you from having a certain hairstyle just because you have the "wrong" shapes? Also, I always tie my hair up because I hate it down, but if I'd go for a pixiecut, I wouldn't have a problem, so why minimum shoulder length? Anyway, this video can certainly help for some people, but I think it's ridiculous that there are rules for cutting your hair;;
I'm very petite, 4'10 1/2 and about 90 pounds. I have belly button length hair that's naturally thick, dead straight and it's not dyed, so it's very healthy. Everyone is obsessed with my hair and say it's my "thing" - I've become very attached to my hair because of all of the comments and compliments I get about it, but sometimes it feels like SO much hair and I just want a change. I have no idea what I would do, what would suit me, etc. I'm blind so I cannot see myself or make my own decisions / form my own opinions on my looks, which makes things even more difficult. AH, what to do?!
Molly Burke cut a little bit at first, if it's belly button length then cut it to around boob length or add some layers and let the shortest layer be around boob length and either of those will give you a new look without it being too drastic :) I would def go with the layers so that you can have the length while adding some texture!
Molly Burke Long hair is so nice You could do bangs~ or shorten some of your hair to chin length, like the lady does in the video (though it's longer than chin length).
cut it. i'm 5ft3 and up until a few months ago I had hair down past my bum. It was driving me crazy and dwarfing me . I didn't even realise how silly it looked until I was looking at holiday photos, and there was picture of me from behind in a bikini and all you could see was my hair covering my back and bum and then my little legs. I cut my hair just past my shoulders and it was the best thing I have ever done.
Molly Burke from the pictures in your channel I would saw a long Bob is the safe way to go. Not the type of Bob that the back is waaay shorter than the front. A bob with the layers not going so down, and side swept bangs ( not too short but just a tad bit shorter that the longest hair in the front) from then on you will see if short hair is your thing and you can go shorter and shorter. I myself went through the same process and I'm on my way to getting a long pixie cut. Oh and I'm 5'2
short hair is actually more maintance than long hair... I have to use six products, a blow dryer and a large barrel curling iron, but when its was long I used to just braid it and leave.
Brie Sparrow I have short hair but I disagree. I guess it just depends on how you want to hair to look but my hair looks fine with just the bangs brushed to the side and hairsprayed in place.
I agree! When my hair was down to the middle of my back all I had to do was blow dry and do a quick pass with my flat iron. Now with it short I have to flat iron in sections because the wave in my hair is prominent since there isn't any weight to it. Even if I use a diffuser it takes forever to get some good curls/waves to come through because I have an ugly wave pattern. It's so frustrating. I won't ever cut it as short as I did (very short bob up to my chin and shaved in the back). Thank God it's growing back!
Brie Sparrow EXACTLY!! I wish I would have listened. I will say that I loved my chin-length Bob and still like my hair at the length it is now(a little past collarbone), but I miss being able to let it dry and then putting it in a bun or braid for style. I hate being reliant on hot tools.
Pixie cut here. My hair is naturally straight: 1. If you wear your hair in a basic ponytail, and considering cutting it in a pixie, totally disregard "I can't do it because I need to put my hair in a pony. 2. For thick hair, a good stylist will thin it out so it doesn't poof 3. A pixie is wash and go. Or "stick head under a tap and go." 4. Consider the following: with short hair, even if it is a nightmare to style, you'll never have a dreadlock forming in the back of your hair (this happened to me)
Lol yes. A pixie cut is so easy to maintain if you have straight or wavy hair. You don’t even need to blow dry it unless your hair is seriously thick and you don’t have time. I would cut it like that again but the one downside is you don’t get to do much with your hair.
I cut my hair on a whim because I hated having it long and it looks great. I just take a shower at night, sleep on it while it dries and it looks fabulous in the morning. And even when I don't do that and it doesn't look good, why should it matter? Throw on a headband or pin up my bangs, it's not the end of the world.
i’ve been really wanting to cut my hair short and this gives me more motivation. i’m still gonna talk to the lady who cuts my hair and ask about it but i’m VERY glad i found your comment
i didnt even consider anything i literally went *mum, im cutting my hair alright lets go* (i got it done today and i love it, has anyone seen my hair?)
Just went from waist length to right above my bra and I'm so in love with it. People think super long hair has, so many styling options but not really, it was either strait or braided all the time. I can do so much more at this length. Plus it looks even thicker and so bouncy. Love love, love it!!
i can see how a lot of the tips are super helpful here (esp coming from a pro hairstylist's perspective), but regarding if the haircut will match your body shape, face shape, from all angles, etc: it's just hair! it will grow back if you don't like it! life is too short not to try out that style you really crave, just because there's a slim chance that it might not "match" appearance-wise. 😊
nothing OMG YES! Thank you for saying this! I'm so over all this crap..it's like you need a university degree in rocket science nowadays just to decide on a flippin haircut/hairstyle! People..It's only hair..Your not taking some huge crazy risk. Your not contemplating whether or not you should cut off your arm!! God! Like the comment here says, LIFE IS TOO DAMN SHORT..YOU WANT SHORT HAIR? GET IT CUT! YOU WANT LONG HAIR? GROW IT OUT!
Nadine Keating if you go to a good stylist, you'll never look like a goofball. You might just not like it as well as another cut or maybe it's too much trouble to style. I've never been ashamed of my hairstyle...some I just preferred over others.
exactly! I was always told that I look really unattractive with short hair so I've always kept it at my waist in one solid length. no layers. it's pretty thick but stick straight naturally. One day I said screw it & I cut my hair up to my shoulders, got tons of layers all around the perimeter of my head, side bangs and a side undercut. i've never loved my hair better!!!!!! even if people still tell me I don't look as attractive, especially coming from other guys, I just shrug it off because I'm super happy with my hair now.
I hate my long hair , it's really thick and just gets a billion knots that take forever to brush out then come back again the next day I really want to cut it short but I'm scared of what school people will think
I’m going to cut my hair on monday... and it’s going to be rly short- I’ve never cut it that short actually- but I put a lot of time in thinking about doing it or not... and I think that it could suit me- ....hopefully -edit- I’ve done it- AND I’M SO GOD DAMN HAPPY WITH ITTTTTTT
I think doing your hair in a loose bun or side ponytail is a hairstyle that would work since for hair lengths and styles, it all depends on your facial expression.
Anna Fremantle Layers, pixie cut, curl the hair with a difuser, messy bun if you have nice cheekbones... the world is an oyster of possibilities. If wondering for a must: BLUSH, instant dewy healthy rosie skintone
I cut my hair off during quarantine cause I was still growing out bleached over henna. While I was relieved to have hair that was less orange, I immediately regretted cutting it to slightly past chin length. I love wearing my hair in a braid/braids and buns when it's long. It's past shoulder now but still soooo short so I can only just barely braid it. 😔
About a month ago, I donated 20 inches of my incredibly long hair. I had always kept it long because I was told that my long hair was beautiful and that I should never cut it. I decided to cut it anyways and I couldn't be happier. I went from having hair all the way down to my hips to having my hair cut just above my shoulders. I love my hair so much, so my advice to anyone wanting to cut their hair to just go for it. You should do what ever makes you happy. 😊
This is an extremely late comment but I’ve been growing my hair out for about fifteen years so it’s pretty long. Almost every compliment I’ve ever received has been about how beautiful my hair was, and my boyfriend (now ex-boyfriend) always made comments on how he loved my long hair. A month ago I decided I was sick of my hair and didn’t want it so lengthy. I told my parents that I wanted to cut it but they did not allow me to do so because my hair was fine the way it was. I told them that having shorter hair would allow me to express my identity more, but they still denied it. A week ago, I went to my friend’s house and her older sister who was a hairstylist chopped it off for me. I returned home the next day and my mother only talked about how much she missed my long hair, and my boyfriend didn’t love my current hair like I did. He bitched about it constantly and I broke up with him because he should have loved every part of me, and I realized a few weeks before that I didn’t think I was into men. Even then, I’ve been getting positive comments from my classmates from my hair and sexuality (I came out as gay soon after) I don’t regret it in the slightest ☺️☺️
I used to always have long hair. Then I cut it off when I was like 12 and EVERYBODY complimented me on it and how it looked really good. But then puberty hit and the texture of my hair changed to really frizzy curls. Now my hair is super long because I can't style my curls and I just tie them up and because it's so heavy it weighs my roots down and makes them look kind of less straight.
Bethsaida Bahena Thanks for the advice! I've never heard of that brand. I'm German so I'm positive I can't get it in stores and I'd have to order it online if I can find it. :/
Whenthestarssettle Thanks so much for your answer! I haven't found a really good mask or conditioner. I always feel like my hair is soft after I use it but it doesn't make a difference in the long run. :( I have to admit most of the time I use a towel to dry my hair because I'm too lazy to grab a shirt. :D I used to use shirts and I think I have to go back to that. :)
DestinyHopeLou try watching natural curly & wavy hair videos, even if it's not exactly your hair or structure it's really helpful and you can learn a lot from them.
My hair is much easier longer because it's thick and curly, but it has nice natural waves when it's long and I never style it. When it's short it just looks frizzy and big in a bad way. I love being able to throw it in a braid and letting that style my hair. Even though I hated it last time I was considering cutting my hair again but you just reminded me why I shouldn't. THANK YOU! I wish every stylist went through this checklist before they cut your hair.
Eh, who cares? It’s hair. I cut my hair today and it looked like drunk Dora and I cried for the rest of the day. Now it’s the night and I honestly like it a lot.
#3... I've had everything from a pixie, to an undercut with a guy's top cut, to a jaw-length wedge - the trick to short hair without styling is to shower in the morning and let it dry natural and ruffle with your hands. Works for *most hair types and ditches the behead endemic to shorter cuts without the damage blow-drying can cause. (by all means, if your hair takes hours on end to dry I'm not saying stop blow drying, just for many it may not be a necessary step.) :) Really, saying short cuts look bad or even less good without styling is just plain false. Best tip: know your hair and accept it for what it is. Kind of a Zen approach, but it can work wonders for stress levels. ^_^
my hair was so long that it was almost to my bottom and i cut it all the way to my chin . And you do what you want i was scared that it wont look good BUT hair grows back so do what you want
I'm old compared to most of you. I learned long ago to stop fighting the naturalness of my hair and go with what my hair did best. It's simpler, my hair looks better and is healthier, and I get more compliments now that I cut my own to allow the natural curls to do their thing. Years of fighting the curls, humidity in the South, sweaty work, and time spent "fixing" my hair was so wasted. Now it's wash, leave in conditioner and go. Easy peasey! Ok, at the age of 60 I started coloring it purple, but otherwise....
actually it was 4 years, i did a bob in 2011 and the last time that i cut my hair professionally was in august 2012, since than i didnt cut my hair professionally, 2-3 i trimmed it a little bit (1 cm ) at home (when i really had bad split ends) my best tip is just not to cut the hair, that's all, everytime someone told me that i need to trim my ends i just didnt listen and if i was listening to people i was still stuck in bob haircut -_- beside that i also trying to wash my hair as less that i can, at first i was washing every single day and today i wash it once in a week (it took time for the scalp to get use to it) that's it, people just stuck on the mindset that cutting split ends is crucial and that ok, i respect others opinions, i just doing my own thing and it gave me results. also i dont use heat on the hair daily, i use a curling iron once in a week or two. also i do oil treatments in the day that i need to wash the hair and once in a month i do a gelatin treatment that is giving to the hair proteins that it needs. i hope it was useful for you, thanks for the question maybe i will do a video about it sometime so thank you
After a really bad bleach job, I was forced to cut my hair off. My intention was to cut it all off once, then grow it out straight away! A year later and I can't stop cutting it! The short hair is so much easier to style, I can pretty much wash and go (not possible with my longer hair) and it's so on trend right now, I feel more confident, even when I'm wearing crap clothes. I was so distressed at having to cut my hair off in the first place, now I'm thankful! So much easier to style and colour. Loving it!
I wanna do the same, and I also have curly/wavy hair and I am scared. Especially that in summer it goes crazy all of a sudden. Should I do it ? I don't like my hair all the same length.
This is absolutely ridiculous. I had waist length hair and when I got pregnant. A medical condition got really bad when I was pregnant and I couldn't do anything with my left hand/arm so I decided to chop off my hair as it was driving me nuts. I have super fine hair that is absolutely stick straight. I will never grow my hair out again and I've only gone shorter than the previous cut. I get so, so many complements now about my hair. People who haven't seen me since I cut it tell me they are amazed at the change and it suits me so well. If you want to cut your hair, cut it. You said "this might make you want to cut your hair!" Then spend 7 minutes saying how awful short hair is. I use a simple headband instead of putting my hair up now if I need my hair off my face completely. The beautiful thing now is with my pixie I don't ever have to worry about hair in my face or on my neck. Because of videos like this one I always wanted short hair but was afraid to cut it. I was afraid I wouldn't like it and it would be hell to upkeep. It's just hair, ladies! It'll grow back. You have to live with your hair so don't let others talk you out of a damn haircut. My best friend is a beautiful bottle blonde who wanted to go dark and her hairdresser talked her out of it. She finally went back in and demanded the hair she went in for and she loves her dark hair. Yes, listen to your stylist but don't let them make a decision for you.
TheAnnie Canvas - Elle wasn't saying not to cut your hair. That's definitely not the message she was trying to put out there. She just wanted to let people know that with such a drastic change like going from very long hair to very short hair, that you should sort of test the waters so to speak, by pinning your hair up to the length that you're thinking of cutting it to, and looking and seeing if you like the outcome. Maybe even buy a inexpensive wig in the length/ style first and see if that cut/length/ style is really for you before committing to the real deal. As professional stylists, i know that i myself, and I'm sure that Elle, have had many clients come in begging for these drastic cuts, against our advice and our better judgement, but when a client insists, you ultimately want to make the client happy. I myself can say that 8 out of 10 times, the client has ultimately regretted making such a drastic change, and wished she had listened to me. Unfortunately, in these circumstances, you can always cut more, but you can never put it back. I try to tell my clients to go slowly at first, just to get used to the change. Then, if they want more cut off, they can always come back in and do that, but if they cut it all off at once and regret it, it's too late. I hope that i helped you understand Elle's and even my point of view, being a stylist and a Cosmetology Instructor. I'm really glad that you had a wonderful experience with your cut! i wish everyone's was that great!
TheAnnie Canvas if you have think straight hair then your hair has the perfect texture to be short, did you even watch the whole video before commenting ?
I understand what she was trying to express. I understand the point she was _trying_ to make. I get that chopping your hair is a big step. I was probably a bit defensive in my original comment. I understand that professional stylists know a lot. I have had the same stylist for 10 yrs and listen to her opinion. The reason I dislike this is the way it is presented. If I had just decided to cut my hair and I watched this I'd be too scared to try it. She makes it seam like cutting your hair is _such_ a big deal. I'd wanted to try short hair forever and everyone kept warning me of the same things presented here. They kept scaring me off. I have a very round face and was told that wasn't good for short hair. So for 10 years I wanted to cut it but didn't. When I finally did I wish I hadn't listened to all the fear mongering.
The reason I mentioned having very fine very straight hair was that others told me that wouldn't be good for short hair. I'd have to style it daily and I could never just was and go which is what I like to do. I can't use my left hand so straighteners, curling irons, blow dryers are almost impossible for me to use. I was told short hair would never work for me. I wish I'd had someone tell me "just go for it! It's just hair. It grows back." Since adopting this motto I've loved everything I've tried with my hair including a drastic undercut.
I used to have super long, SUPER thick hair (like literally the hairstylist the other day took my hair into a ponytail in his hands and said, "This is unreal...") and I just got my hair cut a tiny bit above shoulder-length the other day, and I LOVE it!! 😄 BUT... I would say, THE most important thing, if u do have super thick hair, is to find a hairstylist who can effectively thin out & texturize your hair... My girl is a freaking miracle worker, she thinned soooo much hair out, & my short hair looks amazing... Not like a big "shelf" like I was afraid of! So yeah, go to an expensive salon, or someone u KNOW knows how to do it well... It will makes the world of a difference! Also bring pictures of what you want, that always helps 👍
beccawecca916 knowing how and not being afraid to texturize is not only important for people with thick hair and their stylists. I have very fine, but thick straight hair. If the stylist doesn't go in there and texturize my hair good I cannot expect any volume. People always said I can style my hair good, I never took the credit, it's a good hair cut.
Real human person that’s actually a good option, I would say thicker hair is kind of iffy on if you should cut it short. If you have thin and long hair it looks dead idk
I love your videos. As a hairdresser, I find your advice so accurate and informative. It’s been inspiring for me for my channel as well. Thanks for the great content.
I cut my hair into a bob back in May under the impression that I wouldn't have to do anything to it and it would look great and BOY was I ever wrong. It looked like crap for like 4 months because It was too short for the slight wave I have in my hair to sit correctly and since I didn't have time to style it in the mornings before work it was always a hot mess and then I couldn't even put it up because it was too short. Never going there again.
My Name Is Liz if your hair will allow it, I'd suggest braiding it the night before (I do two French braids down the sides since not all my hair will go into one like it used to due to cutting all my hair off) and then you'll have waves from the braids that sit better since you put the braid in and it's not your natural hair waves trying to sit right. Maybe that can help?
I have a wave and a colic in the back and my new stylist blended it down with blending shears. You just need to find a better hairdresser. However it also helps to get one of those big round brushes to blow dry your hair. It smooths everything better than a regular brush. www.ulta.com/ceramic-ion-thermal-hairbrush?productId=VP10594
It took me half the video to work out what was going on too! I don't think it would bother me with the um's in there, it certainly doesn't affect how professional/ knowledgable Silvia seems :)
I find it sad that Sylvia felt the need to remove her 'umms' because of the criticism she receives...some people are not naturally comfy in front of a camera but she does it to try and help people with their hair. I think she's very sweet and endearing
C.C D I'm not trying to point my finger at her. I'm trying to make her notice that she doesn't need to do that. She should have a lil of self confidence (I'm saying this for her)
I usaly just go in and tell them to do whatever they want The hairdresser always looks so happy afterwards, and I'm always more happy with my cut when I do it that way
Do you think you could do a video on growing out short hair to long? Things like coping with having a bit of a mullet, and styling tips for those like awkward lengths/ when and how to have it trimmed so you still have length but it doesn't look too terrible?
My hair looks better short. It so thin & fine that when it grows long it looks like crap. Having it shorter looks so much fuller. I really wish I could grow long hair! 😟
Kristen Paul I feel the same way, and today I'm finally going to cut off this lifeless hair. I'm so over wanting long gorgeous hair that ain't happening.
Julie Thompson saaame girl i thought i had thick straight hair but really the heaviness just weighed it down and now i've got this puffy wavy texture that makes me look like a curly mushroom
OMG, you did such a good job with this very short video! I think you would be an excellent instructor, I'm so serious. I absolutely love learning, I make sure I learn something new EVERYDAY and I'm sick and tired of people wasting my time with a bunch of nonsense just because they like to hear themselves talk. God has truly blessed you, and I pray He continues to bless you in abundance!
I just cut off like 30cm of hair and i do not regret it. I have always got a bunch of compliments on my long hair, but it’s time for a change, I can sute different styles right yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Go for it, did it a few hours ago and I’m loving it
Tips I should have known months ago! I always had boobs lenght hair, and I chopped them in a long bob like the photo you show, and honestly, after almost a year, I HATE IT. At the begining it's new and cool to try whatever you want, but after a time you just say: fuck off, blow dry and good to go even if they go everywhere and you just flip them side to side of your face and it's not very flattering. I can't wait to have my long hair back!
Jessiee Houle I went through the same thing. I am growing it out now. It's getting there. the other day I was saying how I wanted to cut my hair and my daughter reminded me how much I hated it when I cut it. I just need to keep going until it's long.
You're the only person other than myself that I've heard talk about your hair fitting your body type as well!! I'm not a pro at all but always thought only certain hairstyles look good proportionately and some styles and cuts make me look thinner, bigger, taller, shorter, etc. So it's nice to get confirmation on that through someone else. Love it!! Thank you!
I got my hair cut to my chin a year ago, but my hair is wavy and thick so it got really frizzy and I looked like a mushroom. I wish I watched this because my hair is still growing out and it looks really bad.
Charlotte D I have flat semi thick hair so it's flat on top of my head and then poofs out at the bottom, And it's shoulder-ish length. Between there right above the collar bone. So if I just leave it down for too long, it'll get a wave at the bottom going out like jimmy Neutrons moms hair lol
This video has really helped me. A few weeks ago my hair snapped off 😭 near the top of my head. I've been trying to get from dark brown to my natural hair colour which is dark blonde. The girl used olaplex and ensured me that although my hair was damaged from previous bleach baths (not using olaplex) it wouldn't cause any further damage, but it did. My hairs always been so thick and healthy and has taken anything I've thrown at it. Hairdressers I know are saying I need to shave my hair off or it won't grow but I've been using treatments, no heat and wearing french plaits and using pureology strength cure shampoo and conditioner and already my hair has improved and has movement again. I'm defiantly cutting it down to a blunt short bob but I really don't want to go shorter cause I feel like it's such a drastic cut and I'm scared I won't want to leave the house. Do you think it will grow with regular trims and treatments ? Xx
Probably when they say it won't grow they mean it will still be unhealthy and breaking off at the ends. If you don't want to cut it shorter just keep it in a short bob until the damage grows out... No need to shave your head.
Fashion Compassion CASTOR OIL!!! Look it up here on TH-cam. It helped with my lashes. A huge amount of people use it on their scalp for hair growth, eyebrows, and lashes! It's legit. A few people have videos on it here on TH-cam. I used it on my eyebrows and lashes. I now maintain my lashes with coconut oil. It works!
I've been growing out my hair for a couple months and its elbow length... I'm gonna get a chin length cut at locks of love on new years. They could make a whole ass wig outta that. Wish me luck.

If you cut it of it will grow back if you don't like your short hair. Just do it. It's not life changing.. I donated 30 centimeters twice in 4 years. I like my hair as a Bob but also when it is long. A Bob is so much easier for me. I just blow it out and it is good to go.

Melody Borg thank you, this is what I'm hoping for because my hair is the same texture and gets wavy when its shorter. And I want naturally wavy hair.
Yeah and to be honest long hair is the worst for me my hair tangles if I think about it and shorter hair is less of a problem that way
Thank you so much!
And then there are those girls that can pull off any hairstyle or haircut. We all know them. Not even gonna hide my envy.
Jasmine Ma I have the same features, yet I am trying out medium length hair and I love it!

alma1015 That's all fine and dandy, but there is something to say about a bad haircut in reference to your face and body shape.
alma1015 exactly!!!
YESSS! completely agreed!
life's too short not to experiment with hair.
I felt free and prettier than ever, I loved myself when I looked at the mirror. now, a year later after trimming it every two months, I got a buzzcut at home. i'm ready to try to have long hair again, but mostly to start over from zero and enjoy all the pixie lengths on the way :D
I say every girl should get a pixie or buzzcut at least once in their lives, just to experiment :)
hang in there, tho. you'll have your amazing long hair soon!
Fire-Eye Why should everyone experience a pixie or buzz cut in their life?? I doesn't achieve a thing except loathing yourself in the mirror. I couldn't think of anything worse. Everyone has the own style.
Scarlett Milson just to get the experience :) there are many girls i've known in my travels that always ask themselves "what if..?" best way to find out is to just do it c:
dont be so sour, i'm sure you have very fine features, regardless of how your hair is.
My eyes stray more to that than your appearance
m Hutchinson your attitude is amazing! :D glad someone understands me
Fire-Eye yes i agree. i always had realy big problem with cutting my hair, so bad i started crying over an inch😂 but when i felt brave enough to cut it short i felt more confident then ever. now i love getting my hair cut and trying something else 😁
Hi no one is going to read this comment but I have hip length hair and Im going to cut it to my shoulders and you should do it aswell if you want to because it will grow back and while it is growing back you can just style it in a way to suit you
Did you do it? If yes how are you liking it?
Exactly!
@@Alina-le1gp I did it. And I am so happy with it. Just do it. And if you don't like it.. It will grow back..
Same
I have like at least 3 feet of hair and im planning on cutting it to just barely touching my shoulders too. I hope it works out as well as yours did
I'm planning on cutting my hair, but honestly, I don't think these videos are necessary. First of all: hair grows back. If you don't like it, you won't die. Second: Face and body shape? Should that prevent you from having a certain hairstyle just because you have the "wrong" shapes? Also, I always tie my hair up because I hate it down, but if I'd go for a pixiecut, I wouldn't have a problem, so why minimum shoulder length? Anyway, this video can certainly help for some people, but I think it's ridiculous that there are rules for cutting your hair;;
Omg I totally agree with you!!!
Yeah the shape of the body is important you don’t want to loom ridiculous
this type of thing is important to some people. if it isn't to you, don't keep watching.
PokePotato this is irrelevant from what you said but I really love your pfp uwu
Bro if you look ugly with something, its logical you won't do it.
Molly Burke
Long hair is so nice
You could do bangs~ or shorten some of your hair to chin length, like the lady does in the video (though it's longer than chin length).
cut it. i'm 5ft3 and up until a few months ago I had hair down past my bum.
Molly Burke damn, you're lucky girl !
I dunno if I should cut my hair

short hair is actually more maintance than long hair... I have to use six products, a blow dryer and a large barrel curling iron, but when its was long I used to just braid it and leave.
Brie Sparrow I have short hair, and I can attest to that!
Brie Sparrow I have short hair but I disagree. I guess it just depends on how you want to hair to look but my hair looks fine with just the bangs brushed to the side and hairsprayed in place.
my hair texture is baby fine so it doesn't stay unless stuck and it has no volume, so that comes into play.

@@NicholaNich I actually ended up cutting my hair lol. In June, it will be my one year anniversary since i donated my hair.
HAHA YOU’RE RIGHT 😂😂😂😂
Pixie cut here. My hair is naturally straight:
1. If you wear your hair in a basic ponytail, and considering cutting it in a pixie, totally disregard "I can't do it because I need to put my hair in a pony.
2. For thick hair, a good stylist will thin it out so it doesn't poof
3. A pixie is wash and go. Or "stick head under a tap and go."
Very smart video. I always want shorter hair, but when I chop it off, I wish 2 days later I wouldn't have done it lol!

Sissi Over40 I'm cutting my hair tomoorow since growing it for 4 years, I'm so scared
Sissi Over40 how short do you want to cut your hair
I cut my hair on a whim because I hated having it long and it looks great. I just take a shower at night, sleep on it while it dries and it looks fabulous in the morning. And even when I don't do that and it doesn't look good, why should it matter? Throw on a headband or pin up my bangs, it's not the end of the world.
Tara Taillon I found short hair super manageable too, except when it got hot out and I wanted to throw it onto a bun and couldn't haha

Nadine Keating if you go to a good stylist, you'll never look like a goofball. You might just not like it as well as another cut or maybe it's too much trouble to style. I've never been ashamed of my hairstyle...some I just preferred over others.
nothing EXACTLY

I know this is old but wow good for you luv that's amazing 👏🏻💕

I used to always have long hair. Then I cut it off when I was like 12 and EVERYBODY complimented me on it and how it looked really good.
But then puberty hit and the texture of my hair changed to really frizzy curls. Now my hair is super long because I can't style my curls and I just tie them up and because it's so heavy it weighs my roots down and makes them look kind of less straight.
DestinyHopeLou have you try cantu hair products they are super inexpensive

i’m chopping my hair off to shoulder length in 3 or 4 days!!!! i’m so excited. let’s see how this goes
I _literally_ just cut my hair then this came up in my recommended.

(by all means, if your hair takes hours on end to dry I'm not saying stop blow drying, just for many it may not be a necessary step.) :)
Really, saying short cuts look bad or even less good without styling is just plain false.
Best tip: know your hair and accept it for what it is. Kind of a Zen approach, but it can work wonders for stress levels. ^_^

Purple! I love that. :) Also great advice to work *with* what you have, and not against it.
zuzu petals I want to be you when I grow up!
zuzu petals I want to be you when I grow up!
That is the nicest compliment I've had in ages! Thank you so much BB. I was you when I was younger!
zuzu petals you got it together! Purple, I love it! I'm 62 and still like to experiment. Used to be in salon business.
great tips, 5 years ago i cut my hair to a bob length and i just got traumatize so i didnt cut my hair since then lol
now its almost 25 inch, 62 cm
Ruslana Ness Hey girl! I'm curious about what you did to grow it out? I recently cut into a short length and hate it. Any tips?? Thanks xoxo
actually it was 4 years, i did a bob in 2011 and the last time that i cut my hair professionally was in august 2012, since than i didnt cut my hair professionally, 2-3 i trimmed it a little bit (1 cm ) at home (when i really had bad split ends)
my best tip is just not to cut the hair, that's all, everytime someone told me that i need to trim my ends i just didnt listen and if i was listening to people i was still stuck in bob haircut -_-
beside that i also trying to wash my hair as less that i can, at first i was washing every single day and today i wash it once in a week (it took time for the scalp to get use to it)
that's it, people just stuck on the mindset that cutting split ends is crucial and that ok, i respect others opinions, i just doing my own thing and it gave me results.
also i dont use heat on the hair daily, i use a curling iron once in a week or two.
also i do oil treatments in the day that i need to wash the hair and once in a month i do a gelatin treatment that is giving to the hair proteins that it needs.
i hope it was useful for you, thanks for the question maybe i will do a video about it sometime so thank you
Brooke Nunley + Brushing my hair 200 strokes every night always made my hair grow quicker.
Christina Rutherford maybe you think so because you pull it out unnecessary
Having long hair is a hassle but I love getting complements
hehehe my exact reason for keeping it 😉
🤣🤣🤣
After a really bad bleach job, I was forced to cut my hair off. My intention was to cut it all off once, then grow it out straight away! A year later and I can't stop cutting it! The short hair is so much easier to style, I can pretty much wash and go (not possible with my longer hair) and it's so on trend right now, I feel more confident, even when I'm wearing crap clothes. I was so distressed at having to cut my hair off in the first place, now I'm thankful! So much easier to style and colour. Loving it!
Love the video but burn that lipstick💀✋🏻
it suits her why u mad
Pink suits her but I agree she should try a different shade. Maybe a little darker like a wood berry shade
I cut myself bangs yesterday 💁🏻♀️👌🏻😂 (I have curly hair) and I love them! Now I want cut my hair to just under my shoulders.
TheAnnie Canvas maybe don't start a comment with "this is absolutely ridiculous".
I really wanna cut my hair shorter but then I’m scared it’s going to turn out so bad and I would get told off
This is the BEST hair advice period!! This chick is wise as well as articulate. No one EVER cautions these things before a cut or style change. 👍👍👍👍
Am i the only person that finds it insanely irritating that she is just cutting the sound every time she says erm!?
Brooke O'Halloran I didn't notice it... Now I have to watch again just for that reason :D
Karla Käse trust me, once you notice it you cant not notice it! very annoying!
no i can’t unhear it thank you xD
I used to have super long, SUPER thick hair (like literally the hairstylist the other day took my hair into a ponytail in his hands and said, "This is unreal...") and I just got my hair cut a tiny bit above shoulder-length the other day, and I LOVE it!! 😄
BUT...
People always said I can style my hair good, I never took the credit, it's a good hair cut.

am I the only one who thinks she looks like Shakira? very informative video BTW!
Marie Garcia no. she really does
Marie Garcia I think she looks more like penny from the Big Bang theory 😊
miss.jessicaann B oh yeah I see that too! either way she's really pretty
nope me tooo i was about to comment that when i saw your comment👋😅
Marie Garcia she does! She’s pretty, but she was prettier before she had so much filler in her face
This video: everything points to That you should not cut your hair
Me: * me with my super thin straight, slick hair *
nah I’m chopping it all of
Real human person that’s actually a good option, I would say thicker hair is kind of iffy on if you should cut it short. If you have thin and long hair it looks dead idk
Same hooman, people always tell me or ask me if I rebond my hair, but mah hair is just naturally straight,I don’t even friggin brush mah hairrr
I wish I had super straight hair but my hair is super frizzy and damaged
I know your comment is from a year ago but your pfp😏
My Name Is Liz im going through the exact same thing now . Omg I gotta bear with this for 4 months 😭
Could you do a video the best hairstyles or cuts for different body types
Musicbomb29 please
She did it
Cannot say enough how your video has helped a hair nerd. Really don’t care about my appearance just want to look clean and natural. Thanks
Did you edit out your "uhm" 's?
Komplett Daneben I was wondering the same thing!
It took me half the video to work out what was going on too! I don't think it would bother me with the um's in there, it certainly doesn't affect how professional/ knowledgable Silvia seems :)
Komplett Daneben Yeah it was pretty obvious at 2:30 and 2:35
Well the content is helpful, that's what matters
Creed Bratton loads of vloggers do that.........
She removes the sound when she says "hum"
Marguerite Dups Ahhh!!! Right!!! But it's even more annoying. Yet the video is great.
Marguerite Dups omg i just noticed 😂
I find it sad that Sylvia felt the need to remove her 'umms' because of the criticism she receives...some people are not naturally comfy in front of a camera but she does it to try and help people with their hair. I think she's very sweet and endearing
C.C D I'm not trying to point my finger at her. I'm trying to make her notice that she doesn't need to do that. She should have a lil of self confidence (I'm saying this for her)
Would have never noticed
I have really long hair and am considering exactly that, a shoulder length bob. You've given me some things to consider, thank you.
I want to cut my hair into a pixie cut, but I feel like my hair stylist would go crazy and do whatever they want.
I'm that girl that uses 500 bobby pins 😂
I usaly just go in and tell them to do whatever they want
The hairdresser always looks so happy afterwards, and I'm always more happy with my cut when I do it that way
Do you think you could do a video on growing out short hair to long? Things like coping with having a bit of a mullet, and styling tips for those like awkward lengths/ when and how to have it trimmed so you still have length but it doesn't look too terrible?
My hair looks better short. It so thin & fine that when it grows long it looks like crap. Having it shorter looks so much fuller. I really wish I could grow long hair! 😟
Kristen Paul I feel the same way, and today I'm finally going to cut off this lifeless hair. I'm so over wanting long gorgeous hair that ain't happening.
I got a pixie cut and my hair is now down to my shoulders. HAIR GROWS
I wish I saw this before I cut my super thick hair into a lob 😂😭
Julie Thompson saaame girl i thought i had thick straight hair but really the heaviness just weighed it down and now i've got this puffy wavy texture that makes me look like a curly mushroom
Julie Thompson ohhh girl. I did this once. Did you get the infamous triangle hair? Lol
Same😭
Wow what an informative thought provoking topic. Thanks so much Elle. Happy Holidays!
I watched this AFTER I donated my hair.
Your eye makeup is especially nice in this video! I love it!
I just cut off like 30cm of hair and i do not regret it. I have always got a bunch of compliments on my long hair, but it’s time for a change, I can sute different styles right yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Go for it, did it a few hours ago and I’m loving it
tbh I have the strange urge to cut my hair when I'm going through a tough time (e.g. RIGHT NOW)
same,, i hope things are better now, did you cut your hair? how did it go x
Jessiee Houle
I went through the same thing. I am growing it out now. It's getting there. the other day I was saying how I wanted to cut my hair and my daughter reminded me how much I hated it when I cut it. I just need to keep going until it's long.
Get a wig. Seriously, I let my hair grow get tired of it cut it off, regret it. So I started buying wigs, for the in-between times.
Love it!! Thank you!
I'm even more sure about cutting my hair now. Thank you!❤️
Yaaaay! I'm so excited for this video! ❤️ happy belated thanksgiving!
Haifa KuckianArmy hiiiiiiiiiii Kuckian fam! ☕️
Haifa KuckianArmy HIIIIIIIIII (KUCK FAM)
KimmVonGrimm hiiiiii 😍
Jorja O'Connor hiiiiiiii it's so nice that you both took the time out to say hi ❤️ love the kucklings
i wish all hairdressers were that generous & kind with explanations 👍👌💞
I got my hair cut to my chin a year ago, but my hair is wavy and thick so it got really frizzy and I looked like a mushroom. I wish I watched this because my hair is still growing out and it looks really bad.
Charlotte D I have flat semi thick hair so it's flat on top of my head and then poofs out at the bottom, And it's shoulder-ish length. Between there right above the collar bone. So if I just leave it down for too long, it'll get a wave at the bottom going out like jimmy Neutrons moms hair lol
Charlotte D me too holy crap and it doesn't even look better when layered.
Charlotte D some days my hair looks like professor Snape lolol
I'm really sorry for your messed up hair, but I still wanted to thank you for making me laugh with this mushroom-comparison ❤️❤️❤️
I have long damaged hair so I think it's for the best to have it cut shorter and be free from it
OMG no other stylist gives this kind of real useful info.. thank you so very much.. love your channel
Sitting here watching this as if I didn’t just already cut all my hair off an hour ago
Fashion Compassion I would sue in small claims court for 5k they g uvkrd your hsir up. shave off? that's suspect
It works!
Mine is thick and won't quit growing. I constantly chop. No regrets with my vertical line.
I've been growing out my hair for a couple months and its elbow length... I'm gonna get a chin length cut at locks of love on new years. They could make a whole ass wig outta that. Wish me luck.
