I thought my English was nigh impeccable but going to college has reintroduced certain concepts that I forgot over the years. It's simple stuff like this that I might've simply overlooked due to the context of the sentence when in actuality, it makes all the difference.
To be honest, While watching your video, I fell so in love with your voice. You have a lovely voice for a teacher and it made me really happy while getting the whole idea of the explanation. Best explanation for dangling and misplaced modifiers. Wish you all the best.
Thank you ! ,You clearly broke down what modifiers are, so I can understand. I am currently taking GED prep classes, so I can earn my GED diploma this year. I have a assignment I need to turn in before Monday, but I am not familiar with modifiers or dangling modifies, so I better learn.
When I was at the age of six, my mother sang lullabies to me. After our team reached the finals, the game was won by the Trojans. As our home team players were playing skillfully, a touchdown was made by the home team. We were told that the concert would begin at midnight.
1) When I was at the age of six, my mum sang lullabies to me. 2) Reaching the final, the Trojans won the game. 3) Playing skillfully, the home team made a touchdown. 4) We were told the concert would begin at midnight. These all are the most possible answers.
What if the phrase is like "Anticipating it would rain, the umbrella was brought by Ann"? It seems a dangling modifier to me but what makes me confused is that the sentence or the main clause after the modifying phrase is a passive voice. Does it mean that the subject is Ann? And it's a correct sentence or what? I'm confused here. Please help. God bless you.
You can also turn it into an active voice making the sentence like this: “After anticipating it would rain, Ann brought the umbrella” though it will be a misplaced modifier.
The sentence contains a dangling modifier. Ask yourself - WHO jumped off the table? Thus, the person is actually missing from the sentence. A correct version would be: Jumping off the table, Audrey broke her leg.

It is a dangling modifier. It seems like the umbrella anticipated it would rain. Ann is not the subject ...it is the AGENT.
@@lindabaghdadi5527 I'm so confused because it's passive voice. Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it. God bless you.

Nicely explained...

Hello, I'm confused about the following sentence: Jumping off the table, her leg was broken. Is this a dangling or correct?
The sentence contains a dangling modifier. Ask yourself - WHO jumped off the table? Thus, the person is actually missing from the sentence. A correct version would be: Jumping off the table, Audrey broke her leg.
@@karlaerdman7516 That is not the way to correct a sentence with a dangling modifier.
Now i understand thanksss
