Haltech ECU’s are known to work on Lamborghini v12’s, and they even have a transmission control system that might let you bypass the Lamborghini lockouts.
This is the smartest comment. Call Scotty & Co. Get them on board as a sponsor. Once you build proficiency with Haltech builds its a portable skill to every future build. Suddenly ECU concerns are no longer a huge problem, instead just items on the shopping list.
Haltech might be a little peeved that they were on the show before (as a sponsor?) and Chris said it was too complicated for him, ripped it out, replaced it with Holly stuff. And Chris has been singing the praises of Holly ever since.
I think the main takeaway is that maybe its time to invest in hiring a producer who can take care of planning, scheduling, etc. I think the problem isn't SEMA as a deadline but rather a track record of under estimating the effort and starting projects with way too little time to get it done in time. This isn't really a "Chris failed" problem so much as "Chris is trying to wear too many hats and is spread too thin". If an administrative planning person had told you to lay off the boat a month earlier to get working on the SEMA build all these problems go away. Also consider doing SEMA projects earlier in the year. They don't need to be finished 15min before the show opens. They can be done 6 months early.
@@normp3273 Exactly, I'd never want to rush the work on an asset worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not to mention safety stuff. Do you really want to drive a car that was put together in a state of exhausted delirium?
Rotary would sound badass, but honestly something I’ve never seen on TH-cam and I have no idea the price or if it’s even possible but could a viper srt10 swap be possible?
I've been watching you build SEMA cars for at least 3 years and you've never had one done before SEMA started. You've always been finishing them in the show the morning before.
Agreed. Manual swapping would go a long way towards bypassing the annoying hardware and software headaches associated with automated manuals. There's a whole cottage industry dedicated to manual swapping old Aston Martin Sportshift and Ferrari F1 gearboxes.
I've seen limp mode activated by the stability control system. And in your video the alignment is off. Try fixing that before swearing at the clutch (transmission) reset by disconnecting the battery and see if it relearns.
I have a Murcie Roadster in San Diego (another place besides Dubai you can park it roofless, haha) and I would love you to come drive it. I suspect your E Gear was not running correctly from the get go - it’s not nearly as bad as you describe IMO. Likewise once you get the car sorted, it should be pretty reliable software wise. Folks like Ed Bolian and others have put tens of thousands of miles on theirs without it needing much more than oil changes and clutches. I am so happy to hear you’re returning this to a more OE look, while also letting the SEMA build live on in a replica. Well done, loved the series!!
I think people are getting tired of the SEMA builds being built in days, rather than the months that they deserve. Your skills and imagination are incredible but we can't wait for a build that gets done with time.
Super happy to hear your statement @ 6:00 …I love your build content but I actually said out loud to myself to one of the last vids before SEMA, “Dude! You just beat f@ckin cancer! Don’t do this to yourself!!!”
As a very long term viewer, it makes me very happy for you to slow down and take SEMA more seriously. It wasn't sustainable. Hate the idea of not keeping this cyberpunk though, best lambo on TH-cam EDIT: didn't watch all the way to the end before commenting. Starting again with a shell makes a lot of sense..
Can you not just get aftermarket ecus to run the engine and box, eliminates the lamborghini electronics issue altogether? Loving the idea of the Tes-Lambo. It's going to be epic. Please do it.
Good on you for acknowledging that rushing does no good for anyone and promising to change that. Takes a man to acknowledge a fault. But hearing you wanting to tear the whole thing down to a light stock modified murci is heartbreaking....... It's the best looking car you have ever made and probably one of the best looking lambos in the entire world.
Restore the Murci and keep the Cyber Punk theme on a replica build... that's a win win! Keep that V12 and use a porsche or audi gearbox or keep your out for hewland or similar
You should keep it as it is with its v12 and auto transmission! You could just swap out the old ecu to an aventador ecu, or find a way to just reprogram the whole ecu software without the lamborghini computer. But I really enjoy this build! It looks amazing, and it will be cooler if you fix the damage parts and the dents to make it look like a full restored cyberpunk murchiallago!
Like your vision for phase 2. If it were me, I'd really try to find a way to keep the Lambo V12. This engine traces its roots back to the '60s; earlier versions ran carbs. It must be possible to either run a non-lambo ECU or go analog if local laws allow. Apparently, the carb'd versions of this (6 Weber's, I think) are the best sounding. Stand alone engine ECUs exist. Not sure how that needs to interact with the AWD and other systems, but that's the same issue with an LS swap. If The Questionable Garage could get a Holley ECU to run a Ferrari V8, maybe something similar here could work?
Maybe give Kevin at KSR in Gainsville Florida a holler about the best sounding 8 into one headers for an LS! I agree about the super car problems. I had a Lotus decades ago. I was so excited to bring it back to the states just to find out that it could not be converted to EPA specs! The same day that I sold it, I found out that I could have snuck it in with my house hold goods! Another huge kick in the nuts! I had planned to motor swap it for a little more power and better parts availability, but NOPE the EPA shut me down on that. That was 30 freaking years ago....
I absolutely love the sound of the Lamborghini v12 with a great exhaust. It would be great just seeing this restored to factory with some body modifications. And then do the Model 3 version with none of the cool sounds.
I love the build and I read most of the comments : 1. Must have v12 2. Manual swap 3. Cyber kit is cool.... 4. Challenge these ECU manufacturers .... there has to be one willing to crack the process. 5. "My favorite " clean widebody and a crazy electric cyberpunk. None are for the faint of heart.... get a young video editor and sponsor seeker to relieve those many hats. Tell your team i was impressed with their fortitude through this! Great job!
I love the idea of you keeping a v12 in there, just to say you didnt engine swap at least one build. It definitely sounds expensive but would be sooo cool to say you did a fullish restore on one build at least
Fair play Chris and i love the plans for the Merci, can't wait. Would really love you to stay with the V12 though, even if it is just for the noise. I know you say you can make others sound good but it is not the same, the V12 is the soul of that car.
I vote keep the v12 and try and get the company to make you a deal for the manual conversion. That along with a good tune and some upgrades will make you love it. Leave the LS to the replica with the cyberpunk theme. I want to say, everyone wants you in good health and are glad to hear you say that you will keep that a priority for you and those around you. Proud of you for that man!
Maybe MrJWW could help you out with a Manual conversion, as he is doing that exact thing to his new Merci, gotta be worth talking to him, if you haven't already!
@Chrisrod619 for the body kit yes, as he did that front end on his, but Damons Merci was always a Manual, however MrJWW (James) is doing the actual full Manual swap, like Chris wants to do.
I think the build, while rushed, turned out amazing. I also understand that you’re making a visually striking vehicle, not a performance vehicle. I think a lot of your viewers get lost in that translation, unfortunately. As a model car enthusiast and die cast custom car fabricator I love what you did. I think putting in the extra time to performance after Sema is a great direction!
I've been around since the beginning of this channel. We have been saying for years to stop waiting until the last minute to build your SEMA cars. Leave the V12 and try to work a deal on the manual swap. Halltech may be able to help with an ECU swap.
I don't think anything will come close to the Driftworks GT1 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. An amazing looking car, well worth watching the build on it.
Definitely spot on here. Probably my favorite Murcielago in existence. Just the engineering that had to go into the door hinge setup to clear everything is incredible.
I'm glad you could admit this. The entire time I watched you and the team work on this car I thought to myself "This car is putting so many grey hairs on Mat's head, I hope his gets a sponsorship from Just for men hair coloring." I'm glad you and the team made the decision to change.
Its good to hear your taking a more healthy approach to these SEMA builds. No car build is worth killing yourself over. Quality over quantity and speed is a better approach to these builds. I know you have kind of made a reputation for yourself with crunching a crazy build into a short time frame but at what cost. Sometimes it's better to miss the show 🤷♂️ I was so looking forward to the tesla powered Murciélago. So it's great to hear you might still do it. There's a guy on TH-cam that built a roadster out of a tesla. It took him a few years to finish it but its really cool. Cyber hooligans i believe is his channel name. The years of dedication to stay focused on a build is amazing to me.
The car in terms of looks, right now, is just amazing, I hope you dont bring it back to stock, but keep the body kit and make all that a refined/clean/new modified Murci. Your rear tail lights are just so clever and neat. Would keep it so unique and a head turner. The powertrain looks like a headache though, manual would also be great to see being done, but then you are waiting for something else expensive to break. That bit is difficult to decide.
I know theres so much pain involved, but you gotta keep the V12... it's less about the sound and more than it's not just an LS anyone can throw into any car
yeeeea....I personally ran on 5 hours of sleep for an entire week and by the end of the week, my mind went crazy, got in a car accident and totaled my car....I 100% get it. Your own health is takes priority over any deadline or any other priority other than your own sanity. lol
If you swap it ,it becomes a kit car ,you can build that without using a real Murcie as the basis . Keep the v12 ,put a standalone on it and look into possibly getting a Holinger M6S sequential transmission ,you can offset the cost a little by selling the original transmission.
Just at the start of the video but so glad to hear that you will plan to complete well in advance of SEMA in future! You were pushing it beyond all levels of reason. Anyhoo, car is fantastic and so glad you stayed with the correct Engine / chassis. The body and all of the development work you did is just crazy! So Cool
I saw another channel find the insanely large panel gaps on the trunk… but it still looked amazing considering the amount of time you put in this project.
Honestly If you want to go LS you should just go LT and throw C8 ZO6 engine/trans out of a crashed unit. You'll get the sound, transaxle, hp, all that good stuff
Restoring the Murci while maintaining the Cyber Punk motif on a replica construction is a win-win situation! Maintain that V12 and switch to an Audi or Porsche transmission, or go for Hewland or something like.
Yeah my first thought is that there must be someone who could use a aftermarket ecu or tcm to keep the original engine and transmission, might just take rewiring the entire harness. Might be worth the work
A Morthy is always about the V12 engine and it's sound, if you want a Lamborghini lookalike with an LS engine in it, use the kit car and sell the genuine Murcielago.
Gotta keep the V12. Haltech will work great to remedy the software issues but you can’t list all the characterful things that make this a Lamborghini, and then want to LS swap it and ruin all of then. Might as well put Scissor doors on a Camaro if that’s the main feature you want
I think you should keep the original engine and transmission if you can find an aftermarket ECU to control both. If you do decide to swap out the engine and transmission, I'd suggest find something unique for your power train. No idea if it's feasible, too large, too expensive, or cost prohibitive, but what about V10 from a Viper?
loved the build. id MUCH rather keep the stock V12 because im a little tired of seeing the LS engines in everything. the V12 sounds SO much better. it sounds absolutely insane. I also would love to see a much less stressed Chris, love your personality and you just don't feel the same when you're under so much crunch.
Chris, you (and so many other people) love the V12, but you have a big problem with the transmission. Would it be feasible to keep the V12 and get a more user friendly transmission? For that matter, you could replace the Lamborghini engine management to a more DIY friendly unit... That way, you could keep the V12 and make the engine/drivetrain more user serviceable. Just a thought.
I like keeping that build alive using the parts you mentioned. Do something radical with the real lambo, like swap in a Godzilla engine. They aren't cheap either but you could buy two for the price of the lambo v12. Probably a crazy amount of work though.
You should look at some standalone electric driveline components! You can get standalone motor controller and motor that is completely NOT locked down. YOu can make the car electric without having to put it on a Tesla chassis. Though no matter what you do, I am sure it will be amazing.
I think your right about not wanting to rush so hard last minute but I think your answer to it not the best idea. Instead of waiting so long to build last minute and do a 5 day build start way way earlier and have a car thats better quality (im not saying they are poor quality.) it gives you more time to go different directions, make corrections and have a better end result I feel..,, Id love to see a "where are they now" on your builds too especially that wide mustang
Okay hear me out, i know this will most likely get lost in the comments but why not just keep the shell of the Lamborghini but put a mercedes M275 bi turbo v12 in there pair it with an aftermarket ecu so you get the sound of that v12 and also get decent hp out of it come with 600 hp and might be able to make it 600hp wheel with a tune or even more. Diagnostics will not be a problem and you still have something unique
I respect you for admitting your failures. Please don’t fail this Lambo. If you want to replicate it with the kit and your cyberpunk parts and slap it on a Tesla cool, but a clean bulld with the LeMond parts sounds amazing, and if you don’t don’t want to deal with the pain of old Lambo ownership I’m sure you can sell it to a good home who will appreciate you saving the car with the v12. JMHO
You are a best friend in my head. So I would advise you to keep it cyber punk and go all out with theme. Get the graffiti add more, make it like a V12 Lamborghini rat rod, that would be so cool. Add motorized things to it like cyber punk computer cases out there never stop building it, have it evolve. You tube loves the drama of things breaking. they love to follow a build and see it change break then get fixed. FYI Burntacon got me hooked on your channel need to see it more too (give updates on all your builds. Do a revisit video or anniversary/update video). Love what you do. Totally do the Teslaghini I would love to see that build series too!!!!
Congratz on the build, despite all the issues you listed, it turned out great. Listening to your plans and how you don't sell the cars you work on, would you be willing to make maybe a second channel video about how you are financing these builds? The space, manpower, parts and even the insurance and storing must be expensive. Don't have to go into specifics of course, but it would be interesting to see how your operation works from financial standpoint.
That's what I told you during the pontoon build that you should start with the SEMA build instead, only bad comes out of extreme stress, neither good health, strain on relationships and and a final product that doesn't meet the standard you wanted it to have but good to see you see that yourself.
I am mixed on what to do with the engine, really depends on what work you want to go through. BUT You have to do the body kit with Tesla. Have to do it ! That would be an awesome build. Also, please finish the boat and the truck !
I literally asked last year why you always wait until it's almost SEMA time to even start! You can actually start this month and have it finished before the spring, or just over build for kicks and giggles.
Thank you. What I wanted all along. You've got a rare dream car and, in my opinion, the best-looking Lamborghini ever it deserves to be brought back to stock and clean.
fully support you going stock+ on the v2 build BUT please make sure to take (if you havent already) some amazing photos to capture this state of the car. This build needs to be immortalized somehow
Piss the Lamborghini software off all together, talk to Haltech as they can actually do the pinout on the software side for your harness with a couple of piggybacks to go between the two ... Will probably be cheaper and way less hassle in the long run and will actually make the Lambo "reliable" with its own parts, a Nexus would bring the dash into current day as well.
I love the idea of the replica on the tesla with the cyberpunk theme. I also love the idea of keeping the Lambo with its stock powertrain(maybe replace the transmission with something cool maybe rather than manual a better auto transmission. Also , if its possible to replace the Lambo computer software with another brand of ecu, haltech or something like that. may need to replace the gauge cluster in it but I'm sure you could 3d print a cool replacement.
The silver lining to this crapping out on you is that the tires are still holding air and you can easily push it into a corner and get back to the camper or boat builds again 👍
I'm a custom cabinet builder and when customers ask for distressed cabinets there's actually a standard 50% upcharge. It takes way more time and more steps to make something look "distressed". The truth is that you aren't just throwing it together and moving on. You care about the end result and when you're creating art it's different. These are the builds that I love to see on your channel. Fantastic end result Chris!
It really sounds like a standalone ecu is what it needs. There are alot of companies that may be intrested in taking the car and figuring it out since so many people are having the same problems you are
Smart. So very very smart. This is precisely how you should prepare for SEMA. Your work is impecable, I love all your builds. But having them complete and blank, gives much opportunity for advertisers to sponser it and then they can have input into making it bespoke.
Keep the V-12 IN THE Murci and LS the fiberglass Murci with cyberpunk theme if Tesla chassis does not work. Hopefully the other suggestions about the ecu/pcu will work for you.

Brilliant explanation about where you are at in this build.
Thanks for all the background info
Yeah my first thought is that there must be someone who could use a aftermarket ecu or tcm to keep the original engine and transmission, might just take rewiring the entire harness. Might be worth the work
Keep the v12 however swap with a manual sequential. Use a Haltech ECU and you’ll have an insane sounding and looking murci
Dude this build was style wise not a fail at all! Super dope
B is for Broken lamBorghinis it sounds like. This build was so sick Chris! So good to see Chelsea on your channel too.
It's obvious how much work went into this!
loved the build. id MUCH rather keep the stock V12 because im a little tired of seeing the LS engines in everything. the V12 sounds SO much better. it sounds absolutely insane. I also would love to see a much less stressed Chris, love your personality and you just don't feel the same when you're under so much crunch.
You need to get Will from Throtl for the Tesla swap. Guy is a genius!
Lambo replica with tesla drivetrain sounds so cool!
Agree with others, keep the v12, manual swap it, get an ecu (like Haltech or other) and sell the Lambo ecu with harness. Well done!
16:42 I wouldn’t be surprised the shifting is because the car knows the side wing things aren’t operating right and not able to move.
10:15 if you're going to do anything with this car you should just fix the damaged areas it looks super good the way you build it
Dude, do exactly what YOU want…we are behind you!!!
My vote, use a shell, build on the Tesla 3, go super light mode Tron style since you are getting closer to that and have a Tron lambo build.
Fly tuning fork over from Haltech and keep the V12 with a manual box. Ditch the factory ECU altogether.
Love the content, find the balance bro. Proper planning makes for perfect execution
Awesome show this year great build 🚗 plus great to meet you Chris 👍🏼💪 keep on building all the way from the uk 🇬🇧
Cybertesla AND v12 clean lambo.
And SLEEP on it a while...
Holy crap dude, the amount of BOTS in the comment section is crazy.
For real lmao
I guess dead Internet theory wasn't wrong.
and the amount of people who UPVOTE the bots is even crazier.
@@ghomerhust that's just more bots
@ghomerhust they are breaking YTs TOS and using "fake" likes
Honestly I also wasn't sure about this build but, Man o Man......I Love It!!!!
20B swap series with Rob D sounds like a great idea! You will get the noise and more reliability plus great content
I am mixed on what to do with the engine, really depends on what work you want to go through. BUT
You have to do the body kit with Tesla.
Chris!!! V12 LS like Dave Kindig put in this year's Riddler winning "Twelve Air". Just a thought. It would be amazing!!
This is a refreshing video - your on the right track!
It really sounds like a standalone ecu is what it needs. There are alot of companies that may be intrested in taking the car and figuring it out since so many people are having the same problems you are
I love the whole deathrace look of it all it’s missing is some guns and a tombstone 😂😂😂 and welcome home Frank
