    There is one Siddhi called Kamavasayita which allows the Yogi to break the laws of nature. It's discussed in the 11th Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam.

    I would love to hear more about Crowley's interests and teachings in yoga. I think that is often overlooked because people are more intrigued by his experiments with sex and drugs. But he was a dedicated practicioner and Swami Vivekananda's Raja Yoga and Patanjali's Yoga Sutras were required reading for his students.
    Also, I am glad that you mentioned moving beyond siddhi in the highest stages of yoga. This is very important. The goal of yoga is NOT to obtain siddhi and many teachers warn their students not to be distracted by the powers they gain along their path. This quote from the Gospel of Ramakrishna is a good example of this attitude:
    "He[Ramakrishna] acquired the eight supernatural powers of Yoga, which make a man almost omnipotent, and these he spurned as of no value whatsoever to the Spirit."

    This video was a well-done overview, but has a few fundamental misunderstandings due to the habituation of the Western mind. For instance, a Siddha does not conquer nature. This is a Western point of view. The way climbers "conquer" a mountain. One merges, not conquers. The notion of an individual, separate being is necessary for the idea of conquering. In the Yoga Sutras, and consistently throughout the Eastern traditions power sought out of self-interest or as an end goal is an assured pathway to lower rebirths. Siddhi are to be regarded with non-attachment and are considered an eventual obstacle to attainment of the Major Siddhis of enlightenment and bodhicitta. Minor siddhi (magical powers) are definitely not the point, but natural fruit of the maturing of one's Tree of Life.

    Beautiful. I have wanted to develop my yoga practice for a long time now along with flexibility. This reminds me why I want to go down that path. Yoga is so unbelievably good for the soul and every time I do it, I feel such peace within myself. I just need to get better at making it a habit every day. I never heard the yogin conquers nature. Firstly there are many different yogas. Raja, Jhana and Kundalini. For the Yogin doing kundalini she rather understands and controls prana (the life-force energy) and through yogic techniques she also removes all inner blockages from the nadis (the inner pathways). After this she will with special practice undo the final knot which releases the shakti (inner goddess) from the muludhara. This then if unobstructed unites with mind or consciousness.

  • @masterpjd

    Perhaps a better way to describe the powers they gain they did not seek them, they are side effect. This well described in An Autobiography of a Yogi. For example the monk who can produce a flowery scent on command. I have experienced this, the smell is not like any flower but better, angelic. If you seek these powers as the goal as opposed to seeking enlightenment, those can be achieved through dark magic which is perversion with terrible consequences, Sufi has many tales of this as the Assassins are know for this. So the Siddha basically could care less if he has them. Soon they become nature, the path, there is no need to make changes or use the powers as they are part of the unfolding.

    In the USA, many people practice "yoga" as a form of exercise, stress management, self care, and nothing more. Is yoga still magical if it removed from the larger context? Can I benefit from yoga without "studying" Hinduism?

    • @drangelapuca
      @drangelapuca  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      good question, Piper. I guess it depends on the definition of magic one endorses. According to the one most scholars would agree upon, the answer would be no. They don't practise magic as that element has been dismissed

    • @scivi7060

      Well if you actually take up a Mantra like "Om namah shivaya" and chant it all the time in your head and do everything with the intend of becoming one with what you are doing and with whom you are talking. If you understand that shiva is the lord of vegetation, the lord of animal life, the lord of the cosmos and your innermost self, always in union with his female counterpart and yet no thing in particular, but more of a living experience of bliss, joy and love. If you then do the Yoga poses and imagine yourself to actually become a tree, dog or whatever the name of the pose is with all your concentration. Then you only need to practise ahmisa which means non-violence, since Yoga is not about forcing something and more about becoming one with and then directing the natural flow (the natural flow migth be pretty forceful from time to time though, like a hurricane, but don't cling to that power, when the wind slows down and the sun comes out) Then yes, you do not need any more hinduism. Since shiva is beyond conception and religion, there is no further need. Still we do have quite a rich tradition! And kirtan is always great :]

      @drangelapuca  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The Siddha becomes one with reality and therefore leaves it. They have merged with the matrix entirely.
    Or, as energy, they must go to the next level up because of the energy stratification of octaves... They must float to where they level off, the realms of the gods.
    Or, the simulation has anti-griefing mechanics / systems to protect the goal of the data collection from excess contamination.
    This is why Avatars are used, to limit how much they can change, and it's usually in accordance with a fated system event that is needed or fated to occur in the story line.

    Yoga Powers, the one I think you're talking about - published by Brill, was edited by Knut Jacobsen rather than J. Bronkhorst - for those who might be inclined to look for it. I'm not sure that for Patañjali "conquering nature" really captures the source of the siddhi-s since his Saṃkhyā metaphysic implies that the body-mind complex who might employ those powers actually is nature. At least as it is opposed to the purusha that cannot act at all. Rather it seems that by disentangling the false conjunction of purusha and prakriti, or a person's consciousness and their body-mind, these powers and abilities are almost "discovered" as a natural part of nature or matter or whatever that isn't this lone purusha itself. Edwin Bryant, in his translation of the Yoga Sutra, I think explores and explains it well. Of course, the above applies strictly to Pātañjala yoga and not the myriad other forms of yoga/tantra through the centuries where, I think, some of the other things mentioned in the video like aishvara, might be more in play.
    The video does raise an interesting question. Does Patañjai's yoga or other yogas that confer siddhi-s through their practices constitute magic via the abilities they grant or open up in a way much different from how we moderns might view weight-lifting as granting super strength?

    Magic can still occur ounce enlightenment is reached. The objectives of Yoga is Absolute Consciousness. yes , the siddhi are merely manifestations of the journey to Divine Union but they needn't be relinquished. Ounce enlightenment is attained, the perspective from which magic is used changes. it goes from personal to Universal. what is required here is a distinction between the temporal and the Eternal. Ounce the Eternal is comprehended then one may elect to incarnate at will. in the event that this decision is made, full memory is retained and thus magic can be utilized. of course, existence in the spiritual realm wouldn't require magic because it is beyond spacetime and is Eternal. Union with the Absolute, the objective of Yoga results in transformation.

    I would like to point out something you have very wrong in your video about yogis. TRUE YOGIS are the masters of meditation, the problem is that many people (including myself until i studied it) seek these powers you speak of but that is not something you should seek at all. True meditation is FEELING not THINKING. If you seen what true yogis do which there is not many in existance today and alot of us are ignorant of their practice as it is secretive for a very good reason. They spend time in isolation, in harsh weather, extreme hardship, malnutrition. All yoga is, is a spiritual science of feeling, dont get confused that the study should be logical or thought. They spend their entire life until they gain full awareness of being one with everything and a true love for everything and God. Can they manipulate things and have powers yes, but they have a realization its not very wise to interfere with most things as it could be extremely destructive to Gods plan which is something beyond what can be understood through enlightenment unless god has chosen you to be aware of such a plan and be apart of it. I fully understand the practice these guys do from analyzing many yogis tradition and ancient illustrations but i do not dare to dive deep into it, but i do get my feet wet. The only thing i desire is self control and thats all i need, everything else is unneccessary and has no meaning to me. Your path and others paths or different than mine so that for you to choose but ill give you some guidance to a simple power that will open a part of you through a committed practice of this. The method is simpily going into a shower changing the temperature from hot to cold. As a beginner gradually change the shower temperature to cold until you can bare it, if you shiver stop and start again from warm. When you get more advanced you go from hot to straight cold right away. I currently have mastered this so im doing the opposite end with extreme hot water that can burn your skin so this one i am slowly training myself without hurting myself, its alot more concentration to silencing the mind. As funny as it sounds dancing helps lol, but as you see a major figure who was a yogi sheva he would dance which is were i got that idea from

      Not to scare anyone lol, he is the father of liars so im unsure of this being a reality or not. I never believed in any religion i was very logical minded, interestingly my logical mind of searching for the answer of life through quantum science led me to the realization science can only explain what can be observed and not everything can be observed with multiple people simultaneously at the same time in this demension of perception which if you want to say in logical terms you could theorize we all have our own reality thats a illusion of the real reality.
