    with a rangefinder we were always taught to "focus thru" and press the shutter. Don't focus past, then back then fire the shutter...KNOW you are going to press the shutter WHILE you are focusing through, and you'll nail focus more often than not.

      What does this mean? You press the shutter while you are still moving the focus?

      @@patrickjclarke I think I have done this a few times just out of instinct and needing to focus quickly. It helped the lenses I was using had such short throws.

    One thing i always did, was practicing distances. When i was out shooting, or even just at home, i would use my camera to figure out how far an object was, and i would practice walking up to that item until i thought it was 1.5m away from me. Then i would check with my camera. I would do this all the time for different distances. And now, i can pretty easily look at something and tell you what distance you should focus to. So even before i out my camera up i know exactly how far they are, and will often set the focus to that distance before even lifting the camera. Definitely worth practicing this.

    Thank you! This is one of the very few videos I've found on the subject that actually teaches valuable and actionable tips (instead of babling about different kinds of autofocus for half the video).

    Besides total control you can get lot of vintage lenses to go with your digital camera

    I wish so bad that the x100 had mechanic manual focus, and a focus tab. Ugh same with the ricoh gr. Snap focus is great, but i want faster control. There was an idea about turning the ring on the gr, to a snap focus distance selector. Would basically be the same thing and it would be so clutch

    Thats the point of a Rangefinder. You dont need to "focus" you really just need to understand distance. Once you have that down packed.. youre golden. everything else is just know-how.

    i use 100 and 135 for street photography, no one know I was shooting them. The analogue 100 lenses are so compact, smaller than some contemporary 50mm.

    8:37 sorry, but if you're taking a picture that close to someone and they're not moving (which I assume they aren't), just ask them if it's ok to take their picture. It's the polite, unweird thing to do.

      @@eduardogarcia9793 Literally the whole point of street photography is capturing people unaware of the fact their photo is being taken. When they know it makes their whole demeanour change and its no longer genuine. If you think thats creepy, uou should go somewhere else with your time... you're not gonna find many people on a street photography youtube channel that agree with you here lmao

    • @eduardogarcia9793
      @eduardogarcia9793 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samhens7435 you're missed the point. Own the fact that you just took a candid of someone, don't scurry away or quickly hide your camera. That makes it look like you did something wrong. I saw some the other day just quickly walk up to someone put a camera in their face and quickly walked in the other direction. How would yoy feel if that was you?
