I'm running Catalina 10.15.7 following procedure and when I restart and hold option the bootable usb with firmware is not visible. I've tried multiple times and same result. I have the EVO 970 1tb. Any help would be appreciated.
I found a solution today. 1. With the SamSung 970 EVO Plus date 2023 or later, you don't need to upgrade firmware. 2. Recovery Sierra doesn't recognize the SSD, you need to make an usb installer Big Sur, plug it into the computer, hold command button to boot from usb installer => then go to Disk Utility to format the SS 970 EVO Plus to Mac Os Extended (Journaled) 3. Quit Disk Utility then choose install Mac OS. You're good now.
Hi Loxyo Tech, I have a m1 14" macbook pro. I have a samsung 970 evo plus 2TB in ACASIS TBU405 enclosure. My current firmware in the 970evo plus is 2B2QEXM7. When i check the samsung site - the new one is 4B2QEXM7. I tried this process through etcher and could create a bootable image and the same error msg appeared. However, when i restart the mac with boot options (in m1 macbook pro - we need to keep pressing the power button for the start up options) - the startup option appeared but my internal hard drive and 'Options' icons but efi Boot did not appear even though the usb stick is connected to mac. Any reason for this? Or is this method not workable in m1 macs? Can you please assist if you can. Thanks much
I've installed the 970 Evo drive in my MacBook Pro and I have the bootable flash drive, but the Firmware updating utility doesn't find the drive so i can't see if the firmware is up-to-date or not. Any ideas? Thx
you could try a hard restart. Hold the power down for 30s and let it restart. I believe this does a full reset. Ive seen issues with the Mac not seeing the boot drive after certain activities and this solved it. Worth a shot (nothing ventured....) Good luck! incidentally, running magician software on Monterey V8 seems to establise my 970 evo plus with firmware 2*********
I have the same issue. SSD cannot be found in Disk Utility, trying to upgrade firmware but it showed: already updated and the disk doesn't visible to the list.

There are only two options for formating my usb stick. Exfat and NTFS, which one should I choose?

When I hold option it labels the thumb drive as "Windows" and doesn't run the script for the update
I need to patch but will I lose my data?
Maybe a chance to lose your data, so please do a backup and then patch it.

I'm also in the same trouble 😕
The 970 EVO Plus SSD has two controllers in reality, which is why you cannot upgrade the firmware on the old controller. This is unfortunate.
