​Discoveries at Vanguard Cave continue to tell us more about its Neanderthal occupants

Following a series of major discoveries in recent years, Vanguard Cave is again the focus of an excavation which promises to shed further light on the Neanderthals who once populated these shores.
The remains of a fireplace, one potentially used over multiple generations if not millennia, tells us not only what they ate, but may also reveal more about how they lived; how they socialised.
Iain Triay Clarence joined Dr Stewart Finlayson and his team for a morning at the Unesco World Heritage site.
