The Fact : Hyundai, The 'N Vision 74' is a remake of Hyundai Motor's 1974 'Pony' model, and the 1974 'Pony' model was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who designed the 1981 'DeLorean' model. In addition, the 1974 Pony was designed before the 1981 DeLorean. The important thing is that Hyundai Motor is very crazy in design recently. They are very serious about the design and are making great achievements.

You're not that far off, but not entirely accurate. They entered the US market with budget options because it was the most pragmatic strategy. Once they established a presence they shifted focus towards quality. That was decades ago but the stigma lingers, unfairly. Then they went up market and eventually luxury. This phase is focused on racing, establishing a performance division and leading the charge in the EV space. The Koreans don't fuck around.
I give props to Hyundai because all of their latest concept designs look fantastic and its giving me alot of 1980s 90s action, sci-fi movie nostalgic vibes from movies like "Total Recall, The Running man, Back to the future 2, Demolition man, The Wraith and so on" I bet some of the designers are from Europe working in South Korea with Hyundai as well since alot of the late 1960s 70s concepts from italian cars look futuristic but i could see alot of designers at Hyundai were probably born in the late 1960s 70s 80s and probably seen alot of 80s and 90s sci-fi action movies growing up and already had ideas in mind. I could relate because I'm an 80s baby and a 90s kid.
If Hyundai sells a car true to this concept, even if it is not 100% to spec, they will still get a lot of people to buy this car. I will be willing to snag one up myself. This is such a nice car, and would bring back something unique to the road that we haven’t seen in a while. Even if you look at Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 EV, it screams “unique” and has a retro vibe that I absolutely love!
Growing up in the 90s, I always shake my head about Hyundais design choices. This will change my tune. Love the retro-futuristic look. I laugh at all you people who thinks Cybertruck looks good.

@@Alexius01 unfortunately you need an enormous amount of electricity to make hydrogen and the process is not very efficient. Also you have to compress Hydrogen to 700bar to store it which needs a lot of electricity again. That's why it is much more efficient to directly use the electricity in battery electric cars which convert about 90% of the energy into propulsion. Hydrogen in cars only really makes sense, if there is an abundance of renewable electricity and efficiency is not an issue. Unfortunately we are far away from that.

This concept car fully relies on 100% electric motors. By 'hybrid' it means the car has two energy sources, which are high-voltage battery(one used on every ev) and hydrogen container pack(which can be generated into electricity) to utilize advantages of short recharge and long range drive.

In a sense, you CAN say this is a new DeLorean. Back in 70s, Hyundai asked Giorgetto Giugiaro to design a new coupe concept car. It debuted in motor show in 74, but the production never began. Then DeLorean asked Giorgetto Giugiaro to design his new car, and Giorgetto Giugiaro used the core design features of the coupe concept car to make the famous DMC-12 So, you can say DMC-12 was sibling of Hyundai Pony Coupe (which was never born), and since N Vision 74 is an homage to Pony Coupe, you can say it is also an homage to DMC-12
From a design cycle perspective it makes complete sense to go in this direction at this point in time. The 74 is an almost perfect midlife crisis car for people, well, my age. Gen Y folks who grew up on BTTF and cool boxy wedge cars. The 90's brought us cars that look like bars of soap on wheels. Inoffensive, generic appliances. The early 2000's we started to see retro design have a go, but they went too retro - PT Cruiser, Beetle, Prowler, and SSR, I'm looking at you. But now everyone born before 1982 is over 40 and let's face it - we all wanted a DeLorean even though on paper it's an objectively bad car. The cyberpunk aesthetic is on the rise because the people who are in charge grew up on it. The 90's bubblegum cars did not satisfy what we think is cool. And even the muscle car resurgence, well, it's not really meant for us so much as it is meant for Gen X and pseudo-nostalgic Gen Z / Millennials. It's also no surprise that this is coming out of South Korea, which, with however much beef they have with Japan, share a similar entertainment culture, with Japan apparently being just a little more traditional and reserved and safe with what they will actually put on the road. The FRS/BRZ is a cool callback to the AE86, but ultimately a bit boring to look at. The 74 is for people right around 40 - a little under, a little over - who ostensibly have a bit of money laying around. Expect replica flux capacitors to be installed. The 7 segment display typeface is clearly deliberate and on the nose for what they're trying to evoke here. This car is the science fiction future we were all promised. I just hope it doesn't have all its edges sanded down, and I remain skeptical about the viability of a hydrogen fuel cell system. The infrastructure isn't just immature; it's basically non-existent.
Personally speaking, this car doesn't have to burn the doors off a Plaid for me to put my money down. As long as it drives/handles as good or better than it's siblings, I'm on board. The design/looks of this concept is a car lover's wet dream come to life...
I know the trick. It's tacky, but in the style of the Japanese cars of the 1960s. It actually looks like the Lotus Espirit, for me, and I even bet that James Bond will be driving it in the next movie.

Wow, we all know how savvy you are with pure tech but really impressive how in tune you are with auto design. Peter Schreyer move to Kia from VW/Audi (Audi A4, A6, Audi TT, New Beetle etc.) and oversaw design of the entire Hyundai/Kia/Genesis group becoming the first foreign President at the Hyundai Group. Now, Genesis vehicles have styling elements reminiscent of Bentley because the designers are former Bentley/Lamborghini designers. Luc Donckerwolke (Bentley/Lambo/Audi) and Sang Yup Lee (Bentley, New Camaro etc.) have their fingerprints over the newer designs.. No question in my mind that they are completely leapfrogging the competition and respect for being so creative with design / tech. Exciting times for sure..
