Lewes Bonfire Night - Lest We Forget - Act 5

A film by Cliff Wright featuring Lewes Bonfire Night in Sussex, England. Lest We Forget Act 5 is part of a short film in 6 Acts. It shows the many-costumed torchlight processions of the Cliffe Bonfire Society. Costumes are drawn from all over the world and include Vikings, Smugglers, and many others. Filmed on location on November 5th and set to original music composed by Thomas Thompson.
Also known as Guy Fawkes Night, Lewes boasts the biggest remembrance of this traditional British custom with 6 Bonfire Societies made up of hundreds of individuals known locally as Bonfire Boys and Girls, creating their own processions and firework displays.
Another original element of Bonfire is the construction of a Tableau, or 3D sculpture filled with fireworks and paraded in the processions. Most often these will be topical political caricatures and comments. The Tableau in this film, however, depicts a skull with crossed bones, it was made in 2003 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the formation of the Society. The symbol dates to paganism and pre-history as a symbol of the life of the spirit beyond death and is the emblem and badge of Cliffe Bonfire.
Many of the traditions contributing to the unique atmosphere of Lewes Bonfire Night date back centuries, including the burning of 17 crosses to remember 17 martyrs burnt at the stake in the town in the 1550's.
I hope the tradition and passion of the Bonfire Boys and Girls is evident from this short film.
