Nick was trying out the new GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! triple espresso ventricular exploder from starbucks that day. edit: that is now trademarked Josh, my people will be in touch.
I “discovered” that trick with the Flight Delay and I thought I was the smartest boy in school. Added tip, do this same thing (no clean signal, faster speed, no repeats) turn on the chorus and then put the EQ all the way down and you’ve got a really interesting muddy chorus sound that I personally love. That EQ is EVERYTHING
This isn’t for your pedal, but a secret setting I’ve never heard talked about before is with the HOF mini one knob reverb. You can use the app to make it do two different sounds loaded at once by making 50% knob be 0% wet. Then 0% knob be 100% wet of your first setting (reverb) and then 100% knob be 100% wet of your second sound (chorus + reverb)
Ive literally been binge watching JHS pedals older episodes and now you drop a new episode on me like that. This needs to stop…ok keep ‘em coming 😂 love the pedals and the channel!
YES, "go find some secret settings" - this was so much fun. I hope more players will take time to tweak their gear. It's perfectly fine to want to sound like someone whom you admire, but personally, I'm looking for that other place we can go in our heads and in our sound. Getting what I hear in my head to come out of the speakers has been and will always be my quest in this musical life. Thanks guys and gals at JHS. "Stop buying pedals" deserves to be a shirt.
A few weeks ago I was about to replace my Special Cranker with a boost pedal, then had the galaxy brain idea of just turning down the drive knob. Instant free Clean boost!
I just got a Pulp ‘n Peel as first in the chain on a mini board. Never thought I’d be gushing over a compressor. The distortion gooses the envelope filter after it in such a cool way. Killer pedal!
As a new guitarist who’s researching pedals, it’s hard not to want to support this company. I’ve learned so much from this page, ordering my first guitar pedal 3 series reverb ❤
As you are a new guitarist, if I were you, I wouldn't spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on name brands, when you can get excellent no brand names for a lot cheaper, and they sound as good, or better than the expensive ones.
@ after hours of research and reviews, the main thing I learned was not to go cheap on a reverb. JHS 3 series is under $100 which I feel isn’t bad! I’m looking into Joyo pedals that are around $39 and have fender micro mustang to learn what I may like
With the Morning Glory… connect a piano sustain pedal instead of the red remote. Hit the pedal repeatedly. You can go back as forward between the high and low gain. It’s a fun effect.
I've used this trick on the kilt pedal also to flip from OD to Fuzz and... I even installed a momentary switch (button) on my guitar with its own output jack so I can do this on the guitar without a pedal 😲
Please do more videos like this. Just little tips and things that you designed into your pedals / circuits. Nobody reads instructions, so we need all the tutorage we can get.
Josh, how about making a fuzz face with the “little black amp box” installed as an extra button and knob and call it “The Sweet Spot”? I agree, I don’t want to hunt for the sweet spot while playing (and I’m also lazy).
Never met that guy, but it feels like he's an old friend :) I just play through the box only with neuraldsp stuff, but he made me buy the notaklön, what more do you need to know? :D My quote of the video: "Is it useless? ...Some may say!" Thanks for the content, Josh and team! love!
The Pulp and Peel is good with my synth, the tilt balance helps a lot with fine tuning what keyboard tracking and filter envelope does, the compressor helps with the amplitude envelope. Lets synth still have a lot of movement but in a limited lane so its not in the way of other instruments.
The Dip switches in the Tide water was the best trick I found useful. I Love that there's a Rat in my P-n-P The EQD Humming bird has a great pre-amp. I have it in a loop switcher, on an expression pedal switch. So the pre-amp stays on, but I can toggle between the tremolo on and off. The loop switch basically becomes my boost on/off. On that same board I do something similar with my trusty JB-2 where the loop switch is the on off, and I use the pedal to toggle between the Blues Driver, and the Angry Charlie.
What a vid, Josh ! Thanks ! I love to play dialing pedals for strange sounds, but that's an incredible bunch of 'em ! Will definitely try with (well the one and only JHS pedal I own is The Bonzai...but I could get a Pulp'n'Peel quite soon ;-)
Hi Josh! Talking about and playing pedals in some alternative ways of using them was great! I just loved it! Why not doing other episodes with that same theme?
OMG. The Switchback Fuzz Sweet Spot. I built a pedal to do the exact thing a few months ago. Mine also had a varible treble bleed and a tone pot. It was the first pedal I ever built.
Loved the episode because I just got (by virtue of secret settings) a virtually new pedal board!!! Plus... I'll bet there is a good reason for not having -Record Time-... maybe someday? Thanks~~~!
The Emperor v2 has a "tape" (worn) emulation setting using the square wave mode, depth quite low, tempo slow & eq to taste. Great way to make your guitar sound more broken (ish) & oldschool.
This isn't a "hidden" secret but I use my Crayon with bass all the time to get a Muse-like synthy tone. You can hit it so hard it basically becomes a sawtooth and sounds very similar to a bass synth like you might hear on "Time is Running Out". I run my Anasounds Bitoun fuzz into the Crayon for even more chaos and it does a really good "Hysteria". Also, I love the Pulp n Peel bit. I bought it for bass and hated it, but I just ran a guitar into a tube screamer into the Pulp and it sounds so good. Please more videos like this if you can!
This is not a secret setting, but a secret because guitar folks and double-bass folks don't mingle. But the colour box v2 is the best companion to a double bass. I'm sad for all of the recordings that have been done without it. Recommended with the "Nadine" mic from Ear Trumpet.
The best anti-boost is the colour box. If you have a colour box at the end of your chain, and drive everything hard going into it, you get some of the best tones ever!
Great video again people! The part with the fuzz had me screaming up and down because the only pedal build idea I ever had was having a fuzz with a extra knob for going down in a chosen volum to get to that sound. Maxed out fuzz, set volume and tap in and out! Call my gf to check out if I'm not shitting you :P
Additional Mary Kay fuzz secret setting alert-turn guitar tone knob all the way down and play on 12th fret register. Bells bells bells especially with 2strings at a time
I had no idea the switchback was able to work without a pedal in the loop. Makes total sense, I just never thought about the practical applications that allowed for.
And yet Josh still has not disclosed that the 3 Series Oil Can Delay has a secret mode that adds a second tape head. Why must you torture us by not admitting it's there? I'm playfully raging because I have one and it'll never leave my possession. It's hands down my most favorite pedal. It's a crime it won't be added to the main 3 Series line up. It's such a cool pedal that does so many things.
14:10 I'm glad Josh makes the point, but, really... "Why turn your vol knob slightly when you can drop +$160, eat up board space, and do it with your foot!"
Dear Josh Thank you for all of your pedal wisdom. I think it is important to share ones wisdom, and spread joy in the world. That’s why I would like to share my own joy for these cool Danish rock bands with you. You’ve probably never heard of them. These bands have been some of the biggest here in Denmark, and for me personal. I sense that you’re also a big fan of grunge music - just like me. That’s why I thought you should give the following Danish bands a listen. My all-time favorite Danish rock band is the band Kashmir. If you are into funky, funny and sometimes a little cheeky rock - then listen to their first two albums. Otherwise, listen to their masterpiece “The Good Life” which is the Danish equivalent to Radiohead’s “OK Computer”. You can also give Dizzy Mizz Lizzy’s debut album a listen. It is probably the Danish answer to Nirvana’s Nevermind album. Impressive that all the guitar on this album is recorded on a Japanese Stratocaster through a pedalboard consisting of: a Boss Turbo Overdrive, a Boss DD-3 and a Crybaby. The amplifier used, was a Marshall JCM800 2203, and it is said that it previously was owned by Steve Lukather. A simpel guitar setup, but it sounds great and it was enough to get big i Japan. Cool fact: Dizzy Mizz Lizzy won the Danish Rock Championships in 1994 with their songs from that album. In the finals they defeated Kashmir. Kashmir's lead singer later said, that when he went home after the final, he still had Dizzy's riff from the song Silverflame in his head. The last band you should check out is the band, Kira and the Kindred Spirits. They are certainly not grunge. But they are a great rock band. Their second and third albums are my favorites. Enjoy and thanks for all your super inspiring videos. Ps. Please say thanks to Nick from me. Thanks to his review of the Jeff Tweedy book “How to write one song” I finally got myself together, and started writing my own songs. Life changing! Thanks! Best regards! Peter Romer Dansted Denmark
The Kodiak trick will be VERY useful for my New Jersey Drone Jazz band, HackenStack.
New Jersey has Jazz now?
Good for them.
@@Jaspertine ALL the best jazz came from New Jersey. Look at what's been recorded at Van Gelder studio, Englewood Cliffs NJ.
@@123jkjk123 What you mean is that all the best jazz took a short trip to to NJ
The editing on this episode was so unhinged in the best way. Loved it!
Where’d you get your profile picture?
@ it’s a watercolor painting I did back when I myself was more unhinged.
PULP N PEEL Hahahha
Nick was trying out the new GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! triple espresso ventricular exploder from starbucks that day. edit: that is now trademarked Josh, my people will be in touch.
*Hates things that are uneven.* *Has an entire series of pedals based around the number 3*
Probably why they all have a 4th control haha
using an amp sim pedal to demo the signature pedal of an amp builder is 10/10 troll.
love the content and love the pedals.
Woah!
The dude off camera yelling What? and Woah? needs a raise. Love that dude.
Nice try, Nick
Dang, over 500,000 subs. Congrats JHS. Much deserved, love the channel!
Thanks for the support!

I've been doing similar. It made me wish there was another footswitch for the delay section.
This isn’t for your pedal, but a secret setting I’ve never heard talked about before is with the HOF mini one knob reverb. I will never stop buying pedals and you can’t make me. You’re not my supervisor!!!
It's been fair to say when you engage these extra settings, you're in the Danger Zone!
Hi, this is your bank manager here…
Josh is not our real dad!
Ok, so I supervise you to buy pedals. What now?
You’re not the boss of me!
Josh, you will go down in history as one of the coolest guitar pedal dudes.
The singer high note scream at 11:50 was really funny. Great video.
Ive literally been binge watching JHS pedals older episodes and now you drop a new episode on me like that. This needs to stop…ok keep ‘em coming 😂 love the pedals and the channel!
The dirt in the pulp n peel is actually very, very good and usable. Love it.
I just wish it had a separate footswitch
@ yeah, that would be a perfect feature!
I loved this. The editing make me laugh harder than I should have. Thanks Josh

Your 3 series Octave reverb into a fuzz with the verb down , and the switch in the low oct. Setting is nutz
I must try this.
3:19 you're right Josh, I should just play this week's gig with my Boss ME-50 multieffects straight to the mixer. It does everything!!
Completely underrated unit
The Pulp and Peel is good with my synth, the tilt balance helps a lot with fine tuning what keyboard tracking and filter envelope does, the compressor helps with the amplitude envelope. Lets synth still have a lot of movement but in a limited lane so its not in the way of other instruments.

5:40 that reverse Mario 64 sound is great 😂
I will always buy more pedals. Also, this particular video encapsulates everyrhing I love about JHS.
great stuff in this vid. Always fun to use a pedal in a different way. Cheers.
Value added level up king of pedal companies. Even if you stop making pedals, keep making videos of what else your old pedals could do.🎉
Hi Josh! Talking about and playing pedals in some alternative ways of using them was great! I just loved it! Why not doing other episodes with that same theme?
Excellent video! I love your creativity with these pedals. I have the Pulp N Peel - outstanding pedal!
Pulp N Peel is awesome. I have wanted to buy one for a while now. Soon.
OMG. The Switchback Fuzz Sweet Spot. I built a pedal to do the exact thing a few months ago. Mine also had a varible treble bleed and a tone pot. It was the first pedal I ever built.
The master volume fuzz is sweet tech.
As a math teacher and pedal enthusiast Josh is my favorite type of student. (Based on the 7.5 v 8.5 discussion)
I wish my Not A KLON would arrive!!! I hope the supply chain has settled down. I'm so looking forward to it!
Loved the episode because I just got (by virtue of secret settings) a virtually new pedal board!!! Plus... I'll bet there is a good reason for not having -Record Time-... maybe someday? Thanks~~~!
Me at the start of this video: Imma gonna know everything Josh is gonna say. Me by the end: I need all these pedals now.
Pulp n Peel v4 has to be my favorite pedal of all time. I love GE FF otherwise but those all different
Josh your show is always great

What about the two head setting on the Oil Can Delay? It’s awesome!
The day I ordered a Mary-k I went and got a Boss expression pedal at local music store, I knew exactly what I was doing :)
Ah man, thanks so much for the tidewater trick. Cant believe I didn't try that on my own.
Larry Legend nods his approval!
loving the Bird bobblehead!
My favorite secret setting was Larry Bird.
Rewiring my pedalboard and changing strings, per usual, this is the perfect accompaniment content. I abuse the 3 Series Octave Reverb extensively.
The Milkman trick reminds me of what Paul Gilbert did with his Detox EQ. Good to know that people still kind of do this.
OMG a Nauga on the shelf!!!! my Grandma has one. Josh we bro's yo! lol

Isn't there a secret setting on the Oil Can delay? I have one, and I've heard something, but not sure what it was... Great video!
I love when Nick yells in the background ("yeah!").
I need that Little Black Amp Box with my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe!!
To tone down the gain?
We don’t use toys 😂, says the guy in the toy store.
Love my PNP though! Red remote for the dirt would be nice.
Nice tips! You guys should make a box that lets you easily split the signal chain to 3 amps (2 reverbs L & R and center 'clean').
Had a vision of The Edge hiring a fleet of stretch limousines to collect his free pedal.
Additional Mary Kay fuzz secret setting alert-turn guitar tone knob all the way down and play on 12th fret register. Bells bells bells especially with 2strings at a time

Nice nerdy watch 😂🎉 i love the content of course 😊
Thank you 😁

It's a crime it won't be added to the main 3 Series line up. It's such a cool pedal that does so many things.
Especially love one of the noises in the first part of the second half
"We just made some of you so mad."
"Well done, sir."
love this video, hilarious, and useful... thank you!!
Ok that fuzz face volume hack is pretty cool
You guys are quite entertaining.
Thanks for the cool "secret" settings! Peace
The clean boost pre-amp tremolo thing is cool. I use it with the Supro Tremolo. Actually is my always on pedal.
13:12 I'm sure Joe would like to go to Nerdville right now too - as I understand it he was evacuated due to the fires yesterday.
I love your switchback pedal!!
💪🏼
Now I have a headache! (😁) Fortunately, there was your sense of humor 😂👌
Oh, btw, very cool stuff!
Happy New Year guys.
I love my pulp an peel, makes any of my basses or guitars sound and feel amazing keep making great pedals 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
14:10 I'm glad Josh makes the point, but, really... "Why turn your vol knob slightly when you can drop +$160, eat up board space, and do it with your foot!"
This is awesome! You kilt it!
actually exactly how I run my kilt!! Such a great drive pedal too
This was a neat and fun video.
