My first car was a 1999 Toyota Camry LE V6 when I was 18. I remember my dad took me to Toyota dealer and paid $26000 cash back in 12/1998. I was so happy, I was trying so hard to mod that car, I changed carbon fiber hood, TRD muffler, TRD shock and spring, and almost TRD supercharger. During my 4 years ownership I put well over 150,000 miles. It was a great memories. So, I totally understand what you saying and how you feel.
This video makes me happy. I loved the end where you're talking about your life with it. Made me smile. 01 Solara. Bought at 119, currently at 159. Literally have not done any major maintenance in four years. It just works.
I have an ‘02 , 5 speed. 68k original miles. Previous owner bought it new but never drove it. I convinced them to sell it to me. Pristine condition. Great car
These were an odd purchase when new and by outward appearance expensive. What you got though was something very well built that would outlast the competition. I always liked these 2 door variants of run-of-the-mill 4 door sedans as they were often cheap to fix, reliable, and interesting enough that you would enjoy the car but not striking like a Mustang/Camaro to where people would want to race you constantly. Solara, Riviera, Thunderbird, Cougar, Accord Coupe, Monte Carlo, Grand AM have all disappeared with nothing to fill the void. The Lexus RC is the closest replacement, albeit much more expensive.
Brotha I still have my Solara. 213K now you met him before. I should have bought that damn passenger side door with you. I messed up. He runs great. I have a new exhaust and sensors. No engine lights. I'm fixing him a little at a time. Got some rust issues to clear up around the rear wheels and that door. I need to replace the front springs and control arms to get him straight. 16 years its been and I still have the picture from the used car newspaper lol. I daily an ILX now but the Solara is my winter warrior and occasional blast from the past. I wont let him go thats for sure.
Kaminari just fabricated the TRD kit for me. I have the convertible so I already had the side rocker panels. They took about 2 months to build the 5 other pieces. $550 total shipped. Now finding the MP62 SC? I've been looking for about 6 years.
You can find em on ebay sometimes but they are expensive and and will most likely need a rebuild. But they give it that extra punch and is a lot more responsive.
What kind of spacer setup and suspension setup do you have? Interested cause I just bought a 61k miles SE V6 manual example, and I was looking for a decent wheel fitment combo and yours looks pretty good!
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 I already had the Tein springs on the way, and was considering buying stock struts too! Good to know, I was also debating in my head about 17's vs 18's! Thanks for the tip!
Stock '03 SE, 190k miles, 4cyl, 32mpg adv, bought cheep. engine feels young for it's age. Everything works. The Drilled, and slotted front rotors were a nice touch.
@@TheTheRandomShow1234 It's a light car. And 4's pretty strong, as is. Not planning to go back racing at this time, just need it to serve as reliable a2b. Headers, cold air, and ECU remap could both make it stronger, and improve the mileage. Guessing +5 mpg or more from the remap alone.
Thank YOU THOSE RIMS MAKE YOUR CAR SUPER FLY I GOTTA GET A SET FOR MY 2003 Solara 4 cylinder grey color 230,000 miles Stil running good job on the VIDEO PRESENTATION
I had a Kazuma S/C installed on a new '99 Solara SLE convertible (back in 99) with standard pulley. It made a big difference since the convertible (top cut and finished by American Sunroof Co [ASC]) was I think 1klbs heavier because of side reinforcement needed to pass crash testing. I also had a 99 SLE hardtop that was much preppier w/o any boost, hence my decision to install the Kazuma on the conv.
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 I just got an se v6 manual and am in dauphin county. I know what you mean about bmws but honestly nothing drives as well as an e36 m3 for the money.
Cool car man, never seen or heard of one before, i know todays car market is off the wall but i picked up my son a 2008 solara 4cyl with only 60xxx miles only and one owner, i put it like this to him, its sporty enough looking it'll get you where you wanna go and get good mpg and hopefully with 60xxx on it, it will last 5 or 6 years with normal maintenance as for now im just getting the 2008 plugs out and new ones with anti seize and call it a day... also your right about technology is a bitch lol i bought a 2020 accord 2.0t and its 0 to 60 is 5.5 for a 4cyl thats as good as my old trans am lol, great video you have a great one.
My sunroof is stuck , front defogger works but doesn't throw the air but throw air on face , lots of rattling under body when going on bad roads , fit and finish on the inside is poor but hope so it will run good cuz I got it today
My dad had a dark green v6 solara the thing abused to hell and made it to 290,000 miles before it decided you know what im sick of this abuse im going to go out in a blaze or glory it caught on fire on its own terms
I have a 2005 4 cylinder automatic. Slow like a slug. Nearly 20 years old and nothing under the hood has been changed except for oil, filters and battery. More reliable than my other Toyotas and even my wife’s Lexus. I’ll never get rid of it. I may even buy a 2nd.
Oddly enough I own a 1999 sle v6 and it has my most reliable car i have ever had.Great review on the car very informative and funny.Keep up the good work 👏.
have a 2002 sle for past 4 years, bought with 90k and now 167 and climbing. seen "check engine" light more often than in any bmw i"ve owned..(4) , Noone seems to alight it right where it tracks straight and steering is straight it seems its either or, stock wheels and tires a joke, upgraded to 17 with 225s and summer tires- like driving a totally different car!(in a good way😅)

These Solaras are getting hard to find to at any price. You'd be surprised.
I just got an 02 solara literally perfect condition. My first car. 16 years old tooo
If it doesn't have a leaking valve cover is it even a 1mz? XD Great vid, wish we got em here in oz!

I've ran 93 + Mobil 1 since I've had him and its never left me stranded. 16 years!
Got my Solara registered again and finally picked up some tien springs for the front. Had to cut them a couple years ago my HR ones rusted to shit.
I don't know what I like more, the Toyota Solara TRD or this guy's commentary.

Thanks! I have stock struts and Tein springs all around. Wheels are 18” with no spacers. They’re heavy and the ride sucks- I’d go with 17” wheels.

Does anybody know how many supercharged ones were made? It’s just cool how TRD made this a really good car and almost nobody knows about it.
my entire family and the two late 90s avalons we have had since then felt that the cupholder comment was a low blow. 😢

where can i get a trd supercharger?
Good luck they unfortunately don't make them any more
I have a 99 V6 manual Solara and I think it’s a TRD but how do I determine that it really is one?
by sweet whine that supercharger makes
if you had a TRD you would know... toyota made it very clear.
Are you gonna sell it?
I’m going to be buried in it.

You picked the worst car to buy him. That engine will leak oil around 100k miles into the cat.
