So here I am, an Austrian guy watching an American guy watching a few British guys (one of them born on Zanzibar) perform one of the greatest songs of all time. Damn, do I love the internet. It really brings us all closer together as humans!
Brian May began working on his PhD in astrophysics at Imperial College, London, in 1970. He stopped working on it when Queen's second album became a hit and they began a full touring schedule. He resumed his studies at Imperial College in 2006 and earned his PhD in 2008.
He just won a best of all time "award:" www.blabbermouth.net/news/queens-brian-may-named-greatest-guitarist-of-all-time-by-total-guitar-magazine/#:~:text=QUEEN's%20Brian%20May%20was%20named,%22I'm%20absolutely%20speechless.
You have to notice how good the drummer, Roger Taylor, is too, his voice is amazing with his falsetto range and the fact that he leans sideways and sings while drumming! And then there's Brian May, the lead guitarist, who's one of the best and an astrophysicist. They are a one-of-a-kind band. Notable in history and always will be.
Saw them in 76 he looked just like this. I wasn't at this time a big fan of theirs. But after the concert I was. 1st they had no warmup band and they played for like 3.5 hrs. 2nd we were at the back of a 12,000 seat auditorium. But when he came out on stage his aura almost knocked you on your butt because you could just feel his presence go right thru you. I didn't think they rocked hard enough for my taste. Boy I wrong even this song they rocked it for over 20 minutes with Brian May's solo making him look like Jimmie Page. What a great singer. RIP
I saw Queen several times in Detroit. When you left the stadium you were completely entertained! Freddie held the audience in the palm of his hand and loved it! I think it was his mission to rock each person in the arena!
I saw Queen with Freddie 3 times, and it didn't matter where you were in the arena, his charisma just knocked you back! They are all the very best at what they do.
I had the pleasure of seeing Queen perform in 1978 at Munich. One thing Freddie did that is not talked about often, but when he performed, he did not simply scan over the audience; he actually made direct eye contact with everyone he could--just for a second or two, but you knew and were drawn even deeper into the performance.
RIP Freddy Mercury. He was a legend. Thanks Jamel for featuring this. I am old enough to remember when this Queen music video first hit MTV (when it was MUSIC TV). Omg. The opera segments alone broke the charts.
...No matter WHAT, even if they’re not my personal faves, you ALWAYS choose things with such deep heart and feeling!! Gives me a boatload of hope for the taste and sensibilities of you ‘young folks’:)!❤️
Jamal, I get more of a kick out of watching your reaction than watching the entertainers! Keep up the good work! I’m one of the old folks who grew up with all that great music and we’re still rocking on today!!
Nobody ignores Brian May's talent. This whole band is excellence in music skill. Freddie with that most amazing voice and he could play that piano pretty well. Brian with his guitar skill. John Deacon and his amazing bass skill. Roger an amazing drummer. And they all did backup vocals too.
This song is something that only is created once in a lifetime of great musical masterpieces that will always be where and what it is. It has so much within the song, so many different styles and so much ethos of angst and so much of the human condition everything within it will always be a diamond of a song for me and anyone I know they all feel the same way about it.
I was at college and 22 years old when this first came out in 1975. My friends and I were totally gobsmacked when we first saw this video and it is still brliiant. One of the best bands ever.
What's crazy to think about is that when this song came out, it was absolutely torn to shreds by critics. If only we could see those bastard's faces now...
I used to play this on piano in the school gym at lunch and sing it to the kids, but there's no way my voice could have ever held up like his. That man had range to spare. What a voice. Even dying of AIDS he had a voice without compare. RIP Freddie. We will always miss you and love you.
There's no Brit that doesn't know all the words. Have a look at the band Green Day warm up at Hyde Park London. 60 thousand people singing along to the whole song. Brings tears to my eyes every time.
You should watch the video of Barcelona. You will LOVE it!!! It’s with Freddie, it must be the live version. Full orchestra, fireworks, goosebumps!!! It’s amazing!!!
This is one of those songs that will live forever. In 300 years, music scholars will still be studying this piece of music, and Queen as a whole, along with the likes of the great composers like Mozart.
This is what Queen was like when I saw them in concert. 1977, the Night at the Opera tour, at the Santa Monica Civic Aud. AMAZING show. True fact: this clip was not what we call a "music video". It was produced not for general viewing, but as proof for the record executives that this song could work in a concert. The record company then distributed the film (for it was a short movie, not a video) to TV shows like The Midnight Special to promote the single. (This was WAY before the days of MTV.)
QUEEN & the song Bohemian Rhapsody will always remain one of my favorite songs of all time, and the brilliance to song, is why it is so relevant & still watched & loved in the 21st Century!!! Glad you have seen the live video, & shows what an amazing front man Freddie was : R.I.P. Great one.....
I am fortunate to have seen Queen with Freddie in 1980, and again in 2016 and 2019, both with Adam Lambert. Love this band, always have. Glad you like them Jamal 🙂

I’ve been listening to Queen since i was 5. I remember seeing their LiveAid show on TV with my father. That was the moment i fell in love with music. His voice, the instruments, but when they all sing at the same time, wow, the sounds. I will forever love the band Queen. All such talented men. RIP Freddie.

Decades later, my nephew, who was born in 1976, did the same thing to me on his Ipod or whatever it was when he heard it watching Wayne's World. I just smiled and said "Welcome to the club, kid".
"Innuendo" from Queen's last album before Freddie died is considered by many Queen fans to be "Bohemian Rhapsody part 2" - it really is a work of art. Highly recommended.
Love Freddie Mercury and Queen! This is one of my favs. Somebody to Love is my all time favorite Queen song. Another great entertainer, gone too soon. Have you watched the move Bohemian Rhapsody? It’s a great movie!

Yep. My old man, rip dec24 1999 (age 73) was a classical music fanatic, and he enjoyed Queen's music. Heck, he even liked some, but not all, of The Beatles stuff from their later years.
I would love to see you react to "Barcelona". If you've never heard it, you haven't seen the full array of Freddie Mercury's talent and song-writing abilities.
In my opinion nobody beats Queen Live!! Truly amazing! I highly suggest any song from the 1981 Montreal Live concert, especially Somebody To Love, Dragon Attack, and Save Me.
