Zytel, or more accurately, "PA6/66 Zytel," is a form of Nylon. The original Nylon, invented by DuPont in 1935, was called "Nylon 6,6," which was later shortened to "Nylon 66." The 6s refer to positions on the polymer chain where certain functional groups are attached. Apparently, Remington decided to simply name their rifle after what it was made of. So yeah, the Remington Nylon 66 really was made of Nylon. If you have one of these rifles, love & cherish it! It's probably the most reliable .22 ever made, able to go for thousands of rounds (with good ammo), without a malfunction. And they've been run over by trucks, with little or no damage. Who cares if it looks and feels like a toy? They said that about the M16 back in the day.
Would Love to see Remington Re Introduce this Nylon 66 Once again it would sell like Hot Cakes for the right price, That will not break the Bank etc, Other than the Ruger 10/22 There are no other Good 22 LR Rifles out there to compare with it etc.Remington Profits will go through the roof if they ever come back out with the Nylon 66 rifle again.
good thought. I just bought a FIE imported CBC, made between 1987 and 1989, did a full clean up today to remove some very slight rust. rust removal successful and I noticed barrel moved around in forearm slightly . tightened barrel retention screw a little more and it stopped most of the movement. barrel is definitely NOT "bedded"!! LOL. these were not the same "plastic" that Remington used. the stock finish on mine is a low sheen all over , softer than the 4 remingtons I own. really looks good. I paid $150. from a fellow shooter, and after my final fluff/buff I would rate it as a 95% rifle. I am pleased, next week is range time, we shall see how it shoots. my friend had already done a complete cleaning inside. I hope it is as accurate as my 4 remingtons are.
my first gun. bought it from kmart in the mid 80's. never had it apart for cleaning! at least 30,000 rounds through it I'd bet. still as accurate and sure fire as the ammo i feed it. Truly the AK of .22 rimfire
This was my first rifle as well. My mother gave it to me in the late 80's. I never cleaned and shot the fire out of it. Sold it many many years ago and have wanted one back ever since. Great rifle.
It was my first rifle also, got in in the 80s I killed more deer with it than any other gun. Never used a scope. Lost it 12 years ago in a divorce. Remember folks if she asks you to leave don't forget to take your crap! She may not ask you back.
I have a nylon and its really the best 22 of any I've ever had..I've hit 10" targets at 420 yards with a scope and can consistently targets at 200 yards open sights. Its really a gem
Holy shit I can't believe this is on TH-cam. I just now dug out this gun after being neglected for 18 years in a closet. Friend of mine said all I should have to do is clean it and it should still be good to go. Was my dad's, never been fired since he passed away. Now I get to use it for myself!
My dad has this gun, it's pretty accurate. I'd highly recommend a Centerpoint 4-16X40 scope for this rifle, they are sold at walmart for under 80 dollars.
I have both,Rem Nylon 66 and the CBC copy. Both function in the same way. No problems on ammo, firing, sights or to maintain. Not bad for a 1959 design and I won't ever part with them.
Brazil obviously improved the windage adjustment screw by adding a thumb knob. The origina Nylon 66 required a very tiny screw driver to adjust the windage.
@yevgenz The rifle hold 14 .22 Long Rifle in the magazine. Legally there is no restriction on the magazine capacity of rimfire rifles, but semi-auto centerfire rifles/shotguns are limited to 5 shots up here and all handguns to 10 shots.
That's pretty optimistic distances for one of these rifles. It's much more realsitic to expect to hit targets within 100 meters, as the drop and wind drift get huge with the .22 LR round when you go out further.
Ótimo vídeo meu amigo, eu tenho uma dessa CBC Remington Nylon 66, Made de n Brazil, 1969, está nova, uma excelente arma, parabéns pelo canal. Abraço, Keep Walking..............
my son has an early 60's orginal, that is almost mint i gave it to him on his 15th birthday he is now 35, he still has that rifle i stored it for him while he was in the Navy, he almost didn't get it back it took a few years for me to return it to him
not many people can keep something that long, i told him .. i want first dibs if he ever goes to sell it there are a few things i wish i still had, like my first 22cal semi auto rifle or my 1968 Mustang, bought from the Ford dealer in 1969
@314299 $149 is an absolute bargain! I have seen them sell for $300 for the CBC and $450 for the Remington in like new condition, a hundred less for well used rifles. Back about 1995 K-Mart was blowing out the last of their special run Apache Green Nylon 77 magazine fed rifles @ $99 each! I should have bought all I could lay my hands on and passed them by! :-(
This was my first gun I ever bought myself.... I took a lot of kidding from my dad. I ended up getting rid of it . I've been looking for another every since. I also have the Remington 66
I'm not sure how many times you can say the rifle is made of plastic in one video? The rifle isn't made of plastic, it was made of nylon and is why it's called the Nylon 66 and not the Plastic 66 or Polymer 66.
i have an original remington nylon 66, i was wondering if they still sell tubulars for this rifle, the locking pin and twist on the end are both worn down to nothing, thanks
They are the same except triggers on CBC are metal. Wind adjustment screw has thumb knob that 66 doesn’t have. Other than that they’re identical. CBC was owned by DuPont when they started production in 62.
The Nylon 66 is not a color. It was actually made in 3 different colors: 1 Mohawk Brown, 2) Apache Black, and 3) green. Under the cover is not part of the stock; it’s the receiver, and yes , it’s also plastic.
In legal terms the metal "cover' is the receiver as it has the serial number on it. In practical terms i agree the stock is the actual receiver as it does all the functions that a receiver does.
@314299 Also on the rear plastic recoil pad it will be blank instead of saying remington, and the rear stock model plaque wont say nylon 66 or 77 or nothing on it
Zytel was patented by Dupont for Remington contract for their 22 rifle. Dupont patented this Nylon 6.6 Remington dropped the point thus Nylon 66. Remington manufactured the Nylon 66 from 1959 till appx. 1991. CBC to my knowledge did not manufacture these in 1964 as it was patented and current production.I bought my 66 in 1964 it is 50 years young and works like the first day I bought it. Remington's are now very sought after with prices ranging anywhere from $450-$1000 plus. $650-$850 average.
Remington helped set up production of the nylon rifle in the early 1960's ('62-'64) for production and sale in the South American market. It wasn't until the 1980's that these Brazilian made nylon rifles showed up in North America.
314299 Shooting Channel Your video 4 years later still interesting. You may be correct as to manufacture in South America I saw a .22 short model used there in combat on an old film. The first poly firearm ever made to my knowledge. Today almost everyone has poly frames. Remington did it first and did it right! Almost a standard in 2015. My 51 year old Nylon still is my favorite .22 cal. and I own many classics to modern day.
these and the Remington 66 are good "tactical" weapons. Very sturdy and loads from the butt so you can't damage loading mechanism. Buy them and lots of "bricks" of ammo. You are going to need it!
I managed to find one in Hungary :)... can u believe it? Man it's a must have, blast to shoot. Mine is an APACHE BLACK model, pimp-my-22-semi-auto version. Has one major design flaw however: u need an ammo can to feed it :D.

hello! I'm from Brazil, and recently got my grandfather a gun like this. My question is: what do you think of this gun shoots 300, 500 meters? intend for a telescope with 24x zoom. what do you think?

@hogkillerjp Between the million or so originals that Remington built and the CBC clones there are a lot of them out there, i think your chance of landing one are pretty good.
There's not much you can do regarding barrel installation with one of these, it's either put together correctly or it wont go together. I supect the issue is with the bore being bored and bit off center.
you are probably correct, but I would take barrel out and re assemble it just for giggles. I have never heard of one of these with a factory off center bore. I noticed the adjustment of the rear sight, will the rifle hit point of aim??
The rifle shoots to the point of aim with the sights adjusted off center like that. Another possibility might be that the fore-end is warped somewhat, old plastics can do weird things.
I've seen a lot of these around at gun shows for ok prices. They always interested me but not to the point of buying. It is good to know they shoot well if you can get one for a decent price. BTW is the plastic molded right up to the barrel or is it floated up to wherever it is attached at (front?)? I assume you have to remove the front sight to remove the barrel from the stock.
@314299 i dont think so. i try to sell it a long time ago. mines missing a end cap, and i guess that end cap is worth alot. they didnt want to give me anything for it, so i kept it.
@314299 What the hell..mine is just a black oval on my cbc..sware to god..the barrel is stamped cbc tho..maybe the stock got changed..and my diamond on the forgrip isnt white either..its black with the stock?..really god me confused now! :S
I got one when I was a teenager in the 80's. Brought home more game with that gun than any other that I owned. Killed many deer with it. Only got busted poaching once. Lol my dad and I had a story worked out for if I ever got caught. Sir the boy was hunting squirrels and just got over excited when that doe ran out in front of him. He let me go and let me keep the deer!
I have 2 of these fine 22's Luv'm Just do not attempt to clean these ,,,Just spray with gun scrubber then blow with compressed air, spray with Tri-Flow lube, Then enjoy for another 2000 rnds. kb
I've not found mine to be especially difficult to clean, but there is no value in disassembly past a certain point. Perhaps for many your approach will be best.
I have the nylon66 from the 70’s, and it’s still looks awesome and operates flawlessly!
They are a very durable 22 rifle.

wow i was 9 years old when you posted this video and here i am 19 years old watching it
I've been posting stuff on TH-cam for just over 14 years now.....
dude this was my first gun, cbc copy. it still shoots good.
good thought. Bout time then😂😂
I got one of these in the 80s and also have a nylon 66. Still own both and they are both fine rifles, never an issue with either.
They both have a reputation as being quite trouble free.
I have a nylon and its really the best 22 of any I've ever had..I've hit 10" targets at 420 yards with a scope and can consistently targets at 200 yards open sights. Its really a gem
A .22 LR drops over twenty two feet at 240 yards. I have shot a .22 as far back as 300 yards but have had no luck at 400.
It took about 25 shots to get zero. .the target rack was in front of a large telephone pole. So we used it for aiming reference.
I miss kmart and Woolworths.
I got one in 1991, still is a champ!
Bought one the other day for 10 bucks at a yard sale.the lady thought it was a bb gun.
You lucky dog!!!
Holy shit I can't believe this is on TH-cam. I just now dug out this gun after being neglected for 18 years in a closet. Friend of mine said all I should have to do is clean it and it should still be good to go. Was my dad's, never been fired since he passed away. Now I get to use it for myself!
+Kyrozu Desoya Nice having someting like that with a family connection.
It was my first .22 Rifle! I really missed...
Mine too, miss it every time rabbit season comes around!!
It was my first 22 I ever bought until a "friend" stole it from me.
what a great, old collectable rifle and its a shooter too!!!!
It gets its name from DuPont Nylon 66 which was later called zytel, so it is nylon. The front sight is described as a shark fin sight.
just got one of these from my local gun shop for 82 dollars after taxes. it was one of their old range rentals
I remember when these were on the market. Wish I would have bought one.
My dad has this gun, it's pretty accurate.
I'd highly recommend a Centerpoint 4-16X40 scope for this rifle, they are sold at walmart for under 80 dollars.

They certainly remain popular, and prices continue to rise.
Brazil obviously improved the windage adjustment screw by adding a thumb knob. The origina Nylon 66 required a very tiny screw driver to adjust the windage.
@Swarm509 The barrel actually comes straight out the front of the stock, it is clamped at the rear and rests on the plastic out by the muzzle.
@yevgenz The rifle hold 14 .22 Long Rifle in the magazine. Legally there is no restriction on the magazine capacity of rimfire rifles, but semi-auto centerfire rifles/shotguns are limited to 5 shots up here and all handguns to 10 shots.

Good old kmart those nylon 66s are super cool
I have the same exact one cbc. Awesome rifle
Nice.

Thanks for the comment, I hope your rifle gives you many years of excellent service. Cheers!
my son has an early 60's orginal, that is almost mint
i gave it to him on his 15th birthday he is now 35, he still has that rifle
i stored it for him while he was in the Navy, he almost didn't get it back
it took a few years for me to return it to him
Not many birthday presents are still good after that many years.
not many people can keep something that long,
i told him .. i want first dibs if he ever goes to sell it
there are a few things i wish i still had, like my first 22cal semi auto rifle

Mr_Wizard I have a rifle that I got for a birthday present 31 years ago, so I can relate.

My real Nylon 66 was made in 1977! Great gun...

Nice review. I've got a Rem. 66 This definitely looks like a copy. Not the same quality or detail. Love my ole' 66
They are the same except triggers on CBC are metal. Wind adjustment screw has thumb knob that 66 doesn’t have. Other than that they’re identical. CBC was owned by DuPont when they started production in 62.
@Bellefeuille66 My CBC copy is not blank on the butt plate, is has "CBC" molded into it, see the 8:00 mark in the video for a closeup.
The Nylon 66 is not a color. It was actually made in 3 different colors: 1 Mohawk Brown, 2) Apache Black, and 3) green. Under the cover is not part of the stock; it’s the receiver, and yes , it’s also plastic.

I have heard good things about this rifle.
Most people who have owed a Nylon 66 or copy have good things to say about them.
Good things happen when you clone successful designs.
@onmilo Kmart used to sell them till the late 1980's.
I bought mine from K-Mart for a steal.
these and the Remington 66 are good "tactical" weapons. Very sturdy and loads from the butt so you can't damage loading mechanism. Buy them and lots of "bricks" of ammo. You are going to need it!
@chuckjsu10 If it is a Remington it will be stamped Remington on the barrel, if it's a CBC copy it will have CBC stamped on the barrel.
Thank U Mate, great vid! kb
Glad you enjoyed it.
I managed to find one in Hungary :)... can u believe it? Man it's a must have, blast to shoot. Mine is an APACHE BLACK model, pimp-my-22-semi-auto version.
Has one major design flaw however: u need an ammo can to feed it :D.
These rifles realize obscene amounts of cash when sold down here and the Remingtons even more!
Hopefully yours didn't cost you half a paycheck or better!
CBC stopped making these rifles for the same reason Remington did, the tooling finally wore out.
I was given one of these 22s but it’s missing the tube rod. Is it possible to buy a replacement?

At the Orange County (CA) gun show 6 months ago, there was a brown one for $650! Don't know if it sold or not.
Yikes, that's pricey.
A Nice presentation! Thanks!
You are welcome, thanks for the comment.
I have a black Nilon 66, shoots fine but part of the very upper stock is broken off. Any idea how to repair?
I would try epoxy.
@An0nEeMouse Apparently I read that "fact" somewhere (probably on-line) & it appears that it was wrong. I stand corrected. There's a whole article on Zytel on Wikipedia for anyone interested.
Nylon 66 is the foundation of the trusted DuPont ™ Zytel ® family of nylon products.
I've got a CBC HL-41 combo 30-30 with an interchangeable 20 gauge barrel got it off my uncle he didn't know anything about it other than what it shot i also cant find anything about it like value, history etc.. shoots very well though just one of my deer guns for this year
Great vid, thanks !
Glad you liked it, thanks for the comment.
Are these rifles still in production and are the parts compatible between the clone and the actual rifle? I own an original Remington Nylon 66 and it's been well-worn through about three generations of shooting. Some folks seem to think that they are difficult to clean, but as you say they are really quite simple.
@hogkillerjp Between the million or so originals that Remington built and the CBC clones there are a lot of them out there, i think your chance of landing one are pretty good.
I wonder if I could purchase a PVC tube the right size to preload with .22 and reload directly from the tube by pouring them in..
not made any more . were neat at one time
Try The Gun Parts Corporation website for parts, I'm sure they can fix you up.
Nice new toy, what is the maximum mag capacity?
the magazine tube held 14 rounds.
I would check the barrel installation on this one, the windage on the rear sight is way off to one side. should not have to be adjusted that far over.
There's not much you can do regarding barrel installation with one of these, it's either put together correctly or it wont go together. I supect the issue is with the bore being bored and bit off center.

Queria muito que você respondesse você sabe porque não está escrito reminton naylon66 na coronha
It is not marked as a Remington because it's not made by Remington, it's made by CBC in Brazil.
@COLT45keith I've heard that there were at least three U.S. importers of these rifles during their production.
What adhesive was used to attach butt plate? I have a cracked stock. Down the center seam.
ive got to get 1 of these!!
Does the bolt lock back? I don't think they do im just wondering if anyone knows a trick.
No, the Nylon 66 design does not have a bolt hold open feature.
Just got one❤
Nice. Good luck with it.
Could I get a stock only from the Brazilian Co. ?
They have been out of production for a long time so I doubt you could buy a new stock.

@Bellefeuille66 Sounds like you have a minor variation or perhaps replacement parts.
How much are they worth And do thay make the CBC. Today
No, they are no longer made. As for current price you might want to check Gunbroker to see what they are asking currently.
In the comments I'm reading: What Barrel in Winchester CBC Nylon 66. What is What Barrel?
Existe peças para essa arma no seu país??
I may have made an error.
My CBC is not a Apache Black Diamond?
I believe it is just Black Diamond or Black Beauty?
Renee
I think "Black Beauty" was the CBC brand name.
314299 Shooting Channel black beauty and GR8 were the names, the CBC is commonly mistaken as the nylon 66 black diamond
WE OWN 2 ORIGINAL 66 EXELLENT ACCURATE TO 150 YDS...? DEAD ON..?
I's surprising how far out one can shoot a 22 accurately once you get the correct elevation figured out.
@314299 i dont think so. i try to sell it a long time ago. mines missing a end cap, and i guess that end cap is worth alot. they didnt want to give me anything for it, so i kept it.
i got the same one
where I buy this piece of arm .
They were originally less than $50.
Perhaps where you live they were but here they were never that cheap. Lowest price I ever saw them for new was $69.
Another unusual thing about this rifle is that they made the trigger out of metal......unlike the Remington that is polymer.....
Interesting. I never noticed that the Remington were plastic.
I need a magazine for my CBC 22. Do you know where I can get one?
Try Gun Parts Corporation. They have a website.
Bom dia. Onde consigo uma massa de mira? Obrigado.
Try Gun Parts Corporation.
@@314299 envia para o Brasil?
How available would parts be for this rifle?
Most parts are available from suppliers like Gun Parts Corporation.
Numrich Arms in NYS Sells parts for the Nylon 66 Rifle I have bought them from them a few yrs ago, They should also fit this CBC Rifle also etc.
onde encontro peças no Brasil?
@314299 What the hell..mine is just a black oval on my cbc..sware to god..the barrel is stamped cbc tho..maybe the stock got changed..and my diamond on the forgrip isnt white either..its black with the stock?..really god me confused now! :S
go to numerich arms they sale gun parts for just about everything.
Can't count on that sort of luck holding out!
