    The ice pick looks terrific, almost too nice to use. Really well done.
    A fun collaboration. Happy to have helped. You made the wood shine. The cold bluing on the cap was a good call. I always enjoy the history.

    That little ice pick came out great, can't beat the holy trinity of brass, wood & steel, and once again the early American stain was spot on for a vintage tool !

    Very cool. That really turned out well. My parents had an ice pick virtually identical to this one. Growing up before self-defrosting freezers, as a chore I had to manually defrost the freezer from time to time and this was the tool of choice to remove sheets of accumulated ice. We also used it to chip ice from a large block of ice. It was much cheaper to buy a large block rather than cubed ice back in the day. Great video. It's appreciated.

    Turned out absolutely stunning!
    This might be a silly question, but what exactly was/is an ice pick used for?

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Martin! In the old days, before every house had a refrigerator, ice was sold in large blocks. People store the block in ice boxes. An ice pick was used to break smaller pieces off of the block. Also, early refrigerators did not have auto defrost, many folks used ice picks to chip the accumulated frost out of their freezers.

    I’d there any kind of file that could file between lettering like on that butt cap? I s see m picturing something like a slotted screwdriver shaped as a file on the tip and also picturing something like a split tipped flathead screwdriver that holds strips of sandpaper or abrasive if you wanted to crisp up the lettering. I just never heard of such tools outside of a dentist office

      Pokey things are very versatile. Gilchrist definitely made this one for chipping ice. The metal butt cap is usually found on ice picks
