  • It’s no secret that Missouri is one of the best states for shooting mallards. Ducks that nest in both the Mississippi and Central Flyways funnel through here on their way to the Arkansas Delta, and the habitat is great for greenheads. In this episode, Sean Weaver is joined by Logan Williamson, First Lite’s Waterfowl Category Manager. It’s cold, late-season, and the goal is simple: big flocks of mallards, greenwing teal, and wigeon on the big water.

    Catching them on the way back to water to get some grit in their gizzards at around 10 or 11 AM is always sweet. That time is great for mid-day flight on geese as well.

    "I'm a teal hunter now" yes. Yes you are. And welcome. As someone who shoots almost primarily teal, because of where I live, season dates, and when different birds get here, welcome to the joy that is teal. :-)

    Pro tip on batteries... keep em inside, keep them in the truck cab on the way there, and toss er' in at the ramp. Wisconsin life hacks 🤣 also, a squirter of starting fluid and a jumper pack on the battery help push through hard starts

  • @crowman5936
    @crowman5936 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Starting batteries for your boat with that cold should be brought in to a garage over night. At 0 degrees 80 percent of the energy is locked up in the cold and not useable. With a 100 amp battery that means you only have 20 useable amps for starting a cold engine with thick cold oil in the crankcase.

  • @danieln3999
    @danieln3999 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I get this is over a year old, but bit of advice for the other duck hunters watching this, get you a jump pack and keep it in your truck and keep it charged and warm. At minimum keep you some jumper cables. Detach the trailer from the truck and jump your boat battery and boat motor off the truck. Run a fuel-water separating filter and keep the water dumped out of it so it doesn't freeze in the filter or your fuel lines. Non-ehtanol gas, and keep your tank full to the brim so you minimize condensation. If you still use a two-stroke, use high quality, synthetic or synthetic blend oil. Keep everything lubed. Just those few things will keep your motors more reliable in the cold.

      Why? They live with the “fear” of starving to death, freezing to death, getting picked off by Eagles, fox, coyote, even large fish. Their lives will not change at all if there were no hunters, and ducks in general would be far worse off in a conservation sense. This is just a argument of ignorance.
