      I really enjoyed the days fishing regardless Joe. I learnt a lot about the venue and i'd go back better prepared with a few tweaks to the rigs and the approach. Of course all the pegs vary in depth so you need to be prepared for any of them.

    Good video John. Takes me back to the 90's. Bronze maggot/stick float with an ABU closed face reel did most damage but there were some good chub bags in the deeper pegs with the feeder. The prevailing wind was nearly always downstream but back shotting cured that. Bronze coloured fingers with a suit and tie on Monday mornings didn't look pretty so I used to get a gallon of yellow maggots with a handful of reds thrown in for the hook and they seemed to pick them out. The Trent was fished a lot more in those days but sadly that's true of lots of waters these days.

      Thanks Dave, glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane. II was a bit undergunned in the feeder department, lack of prep did for me there. Yes bronze maggots, sometimes they don't dye your fingers, other times they go toxic! The stick I had set up for the peg was a bit too light and in 10ft of water, the bolo just felt a better option. I guess an old school balsa would have worked nicely as well. Thanks for watching bud, Tight Lines ,🎣

      I planned, to catch dace on a blockend feeder close in but kept getting snagged and then lost the rig. The dace never showed up if they were even there, maybe they don't like the extra water/colour, most people caught roach, bream or chub.

    Good morning John, haven't seen you up for ages where have you been? . What a lovely crisp clear video and the venue is stunning. I live in the west of Ireland and I only have 1 lake close to me but I much prefer to travel to the Shannon to fish because it's more exciting to fish. Tuesday it was pissing down but I still went to Portumna and gave it all I had . I ended up with 7.09 kilos of mixed fish , 1 bream over 2kg and hybrids and roach. It was windy and I got tangled a few times but kept my cool . Started with 2 rods but finished with fishing only 1. I mix up bread crumb ,wheatabix, hemp, casters , maggots, groundbait and a strawberry milkshake as addative. It payed off. What a days fishing. John at least you caught fish mate. Good weight considering the fish wern't too big . keep the vids coming mate and I'll keep watching. All the best .

      Hi Robert,, I was told I couldn't film on the A&C and I was on there for a month of weekends. The following weekend was dire on the River Ure so nowt to upload really, 6 dace for 2oz and there were lots of blanks, the rivers desperately needed some fresh water in. This last weekend was my one weekend off matches so I wasn't committed to anything and last minute decided on Sunday morning on a no pressure sesh without the cameras on the Derwent, had some lovely chub out ...that's 6 weeks without uploading. I don't upload TH-cam videos for the sake of putting something out, I'd rather upload something with value. I'm on the Hull this weekend and it's looking grim with the biggest tide of the year peaking right on match start then running off like a train all day, if that happens I'm gonna need 15g flat float to hold in the flow but they're talking about shutting the tidal barrier which means it will be chocolate brown and 9ft above normal and stood still all bloody day.... hard to prepare for all these eventualities so will just have to adapt on the day. Sounds like you have a special formula groundbait, fish will eat pretty much anything, we just need to be careful in Yorkshire most of the time to ensure we don't blow the peg by overfeeding. As for the rain, well we've had it too, the rivers are well up now but it's been lovely here the past couple of days. I will be back with more vids soon... don't know if it will be the river Hull next, depends how it goes but I'll be back at Fiskerton the week after. Take care mate and thanks for watching. 👍

      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ian, it was a lovely method to fish on the day, if the stamp had been better/i'd used caster then I maybe would've framed but really i needed some bonus fish. Don't be too hard about catching Yorkshire barbel, they can be elusive, when you eventually find them you'll have a good run of them until they move areas. I'm still trying for an Ouse barbel this year, so far 3 blank sessions on renowned stretches/pegs, they're just moody when i go 😅

      Cheers Scott, it's always an enjoyable day trottin for roach, the snag was a pain but you can only do your best to avoid them. Such a varied venue allows for a multitude of methods and baits which can lead to a bit of a headache! Pick a method or two and try to make them work.

    After many, many years of wanting to fish the Trent I went up and fished this stretch in July this year. It hammered it down for the last 3 hours, but I had a cracking day trotting a stick (using my old Shakespeare Ambassador 14 footer). Available on a day ticket, this stretch is well worth a go. By the way, unless you are on a match you can't drive down to your peg but the parking is around 500 yards up that track..

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, how did you get on in your match? I had a 14ft stick float setup at the start but it wasn't working for me, the rig was too light. What were the levels like when you went and depth in your peg? Sorry for all the questions but genuinely interested to know a bit more about the venue. BTW Dave, match organiser had a key for the gate, we dropped tackle at the pegs after the draw and then parked back in the grassy area and walked back to the pegs to fish.

      @@HOOKEDFishingChannel Unfortunately I wasn't fishing a match mate, I would love to match fish that stretch! I think looking at this footage I was on exactly the same peg (if that is the first peg you can fish on a Nottingham Piscatorials day ticket). River was low when I was there (in July) - I took a platform out about a yard past the reeds. I'd gone to try pole fishing hemp and tares, but the wind picked up (blowing upstream) and I thought what the bloody hell am i doing not fishing a stick with an up-streamer! I fed hemp and tares mostly fishing bronze on the hook. Caught perch, stamp roach and some dace (off bleak) on the inside line plus 4 lumps that all came off, I guess Bream foul hooked? Without an upstream wind I would have been on the bolo too. Towards the end I would have been better on a long whip but because of the weather I'd not set one up. Absolutely fantastic day catching silvers on a stick. Heaven. Trying to persuade better half that we should move that way (or nearer to the Wye). Heading there again as soon as I can. If you have any contacts for open matches (or club matches that will take a guest) please let me know and someone can take my money!

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you had a great day pleasure fishing. So many methods to try and deciphering which one to use can confuse you on the Trent but it's often dictated by the levels, wind direction and water depth, when you know a bit more about a venue, it's easier to get onto the best method on the day quickly. My club Yorskhire Bandits allows guests, we have one match planned on the Trent next year -not sure on the stretch yet, (I wasn't with them on this occasion it was Trident AC and I just guested). I'll maybe post the match programme on my community tab when it's finalised and if you fancy it/can make the date, I'd be happy to take you as a guest. Burton Joyce offers some of the best roach and float fishing on the Trent. PS, I wish I lived closer, it's usually 85-100 miles there for me depending on the venue. Tight Lines Pal.

      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@steve.s6741 yes i have, they are heavy by comparison to the acolyte. Some acolytes had issues snapping but thats been resolved now and Drennan will replace FOC. I actually broke this rod but since getting the replacement top it's been perfect, I also have a 14ft plus and thats a gem for taking out bigger fish, looking to get the 15ft plus now but would defintely get it in the 17 if they did one. Other options are the 18ft cadence - I've tried one, wasn't a patch on the Drennan. If you can get hold of one the old Daiwas Spectron 17-20 are a great second hand buy - trying to find one myself for those even deeper swims that i currently either use the preston absolute bolo on or I have an old MAP concept match 18-20ft - bit heavy at 20 though but you can get them cheap - shakespeare annex the same rod. I think maver made a good one as well but unsure of that name. Tricast make the triology match and the old John Allertons 17-20ft but I didn't like it - too whippy for me but each to their own - pricy though £300+, hope this helps.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes as i say, it was all a bit last minute, not well prepared for this one and i thought there would be loads of dace like a lot of the Trent but it was all roach - typical i chose to limit my bait choice (only a small friendly club match so not fishing for big money), to just maggots.

    Nice fishing John, really enjoyed that. Are they the Daiwa chest waders you've got?

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gareth, thanks for watching pal. The waders are just the Daiwa Endura 5mm neoprene thigh waders. I had some prologic chest waders that I wore in a few videos in summer before they leaked on the stick float session video I did on the Derwent - watch that if you want to see how wet I got! 🤣 I'm still looking for a pair of chesties for this season but I want the breathable stocking foot type with wading boots, I've heard good things about Vision waders and also Scierra and quite like the design of the X-Stretch ones. You can actually get waist waders as well but they seem to be even more expensive than chesties so might as well go the whole hog.
