Soul Eater solved a major problem in battle manga:
The overstuffed cast that stands in the background doing nothing, aren't there because they're the weapons.
Just do it, become the Soul Eater channel.
Its the only anime aside from Bleach that managed to solve that issue

Highly recommend reading the manga if you liked the anime. For reference the anime only covers HALF the manga before coming to a rushed ending that's pulled out of nowhere. You'll definitely be more satisfied with the manga.

11/10 agree the manga is great! There’s so much more with the secondary meister team and a bunch of additional characters and villains the anime never got the chance to adapt. I’ve collected both the original run and the perfect editions because it’s such an amazing manga. Anyone questioning if they should read it absolutely needs to pick it up.
It’s less than half, more like 30% of it. Anime ending in 2009 and manga ended in 2013.

I also love how well the power system compliments the shows focus on character dynamics… As in, character dynamics literally ARE the power system, and that was probably the best possible decision the writer could’ve made
Soul Eater is the Most 2000's anime I can think of. Any flaws I have with it are reflections of what anime really was. It was an era before streaming but after watching parts 1of 3 in subbed on youtube and having part 3 of 3 taken down. It's a perfect little pocket of time filled with charm, style and everything that anime just is. It made me fall in love with anime and it's a high that few stories reach. Will happily come back for more soul eater videos! Keep the remake hopes alive

It’s so nice to see someone gush about soul eater! To think this anime was so perfect, and it only covered like 1/3 of the manga?! We desperately need a remake of the full thing! Im hopeful that after the fire force anime is over , the author will green light a remake.

I felt such a flurry of emotions that I couldnt comprehend. Anger, confusion, sadness, warmth, happiness?
The fact that the moment in question isnt even overtly evil but like "psychologically manipulative" is what does it for me
Also it is stylization is PERFECT!! it is what got me watching it in the first place and I was really happy i did.
YESSS Give Soul Eater its flowers!!! You worded it so perfectly that the plot somehow is the fourth most important part of the anime. I was watching a youtube reactor watch Soul Eater recently and they dropped it like 10 or so eps in because after all that they still didn't know the plot of the show (they stopped like ONE episode before the Kishin revival arc, RIP). I honestly never thought about it like that, but it's true! Crona and Medusa get introduced, but it takes a LONG time to get to the point, because the main focus is on the characters and their relationships with one another, which is such a STRENGTH of the show as well as a departure from the norm.
(And you're totally right, the Jujutsu High kids don't stand a chance against the DWMA students.)
I'd love to see more Soul Eater videos from you, it's clear you love it and understand the essence of it so well! You could even do a few videos doing manga reactions if you do read it (and you SHOULD, because the anime stopped right before all my favorite arcs. Baba Yaga's Castle arc does a fantastic job developing the B team and making them more important too!)
I want a SE reboot so bad, having been prayinggg for a manga accurate adaptation for years, but I'm also worried that it won't capture the vibes of the original anime. If half of the score isnt a quartet of off-pitch plastic recorders I don't know what I'll do. The anime is so SPECIFIC in its weird vibe. Can that be captured twice?

I feel the same about how important the style of the original SE anime is. It's got that stylish, weird vibe that Studio Bones is so damn good at, and I'm not entirely sure I'd even want a reboot if it wasn't Studio Bones doing it again.
Get me a Soul Eater: Brotherhood, Berserk: Brotherhood and Magi/Sinbad Sequel. The Holy Trinity of things that deserve to be made. I'll also take Gantz: Brotherhood or a Mahou Shojo Apocalypse Anime.
Soul Eater will always be one of my favorite series of all time! It’s so stylish and well-done, but I really would love to see the whole manga be adapted one day 🤞

God I LOVE Soul Eater. I *resonated* wayy too much ro everything you mentioned about "first anime" brainrot, lmao. Yes, I look back and think about the fanservice of the first chapters and cringe, but aside from that, I feel like it aged as fine wine.
I love Fire Force, so this video finally pushing me to checkout Soul Eater. My library also has the full series manga/print :) The style of the show and vibes reminds me of DanDaDan too a bit

soul eater was the manga/anime that got me into manga and anime. prior to this yea there was dragon ball and naruto but that was commonplace at the time , this opened my eyes to things that didnt just air on toonami. Great vid as always keep it up 💚
For anyone who hasn't read the Soul Eater manga, I can attest that the manga not only gets really good, but literally much more intense than the anime, and its a good size portion of the manga that the anime didn't adapt. There's a lot of really stand out moments, with characters and plot points. Certain characters get a revamp from their anime counterpart and certain scenes/storylines get played out a little differently than the anime, but its awesome nonetheless.
Soul Eater will forever have a special place in my heart, it was the very first anime I watched and dedicated myself to finish. I used to own the complete series on DVD and have rewatched it countless times + re-rewatched it when it was on Toonami as well.
I will forever adore this show!
And the manga is even better, as well! So many more fleshed out and crazy plot points and character dynamics with one of the coolest final fights I've ever seen! It would be INCREDIBLE if they could give this series a redux in anime form just so we can see the full story unfold!

Also, speaking on the manga- it stands as one of my favorite examples of an artist's refinement of style over time. Seeing how Ohkubo's style develops from beginning to end is a treat in and of itself. I put it up the Berserk, tbh. Not to compare these two manga's quality, just in how art style changes and develops. Absolute masterpiece.

I've seen clips of Soul Eater so many times and I always thought the artstyle was really appealing, but I've never watched it. Now Ina is out here comparing it to Avatar, so I guess I have to watch it lol

Make sure you stick with it because it takes a while for the plot to get going. As mentioned in the video, the characters and their relationships/interactions are really foundational, and that foundation takes like >6 episodes to build.
I just finished rewatching Soul Eater the other day, and it holds up really well. I love the music and art style. And the character chemistry is absolutely the highlight as you say. I do wish some of the things in the last episode were better explained, but the anime original ending isn't half bad. My only other small complaint is that we barely see Free in the second half. He's so cool and felt so wasted.

9:49 I totally agree especially in shonen don’t get me wrong I understand that the two boy & girl trio is a classic trope but what’s the point of making the girls characters apart of the trio if you not going to develop her or make her less intertwine with the other two leads (basically a 3rd wheel)
I’m not saying part of the trio can’t be in love with each other but I want the dynamics to be fully connected like if characters A&B are in love I still should be able to know what characters B&C are doing when A is off screen casually outside of mission/training Stuff(& it can’t be about characters A either )

I remember when I watched this series i was in a dark place,i had depression and anxiety for the first time and had no way of dealing with it.
I remember vividly that the message of the show was to be brave in the face of insanity and connect and empathize with people around you and that helped me tremendously dealing with my problems.
I'm forever grateful for the mangaka and the studio for this show,btw watch or read fire force it's by the same person and it's awesome.

Soul Eater is such a fun series that introduced me to the world of anime and manga. This and Okubo's other works have resonated with me like no other story has. I really hope Soul Eater anime gets remade one day, just so I can see the fights that only exist in the manga be beautifully animated on my tv screen

I get what you are saying here 1:30. It's true that a lot of retrospective ends up focusing on the issues of said series, this happens because as we age and as time passes our standards are raised. We demand more from our media.
Soul Eater is the series of my childhood I loved it! This there is better women protagonist in anime that are better treated by the show. I know you love Black Star and I love him too! (less than Death The Kid tho... 🤭) unfortunately his treatment of Tsubaki is grating... The show just in general has that air of casual misogyny that makes at least difficult for me to look back at it with the sweet glasses of nostalgia 😮💨
Character Chemistry is peak though let me not lie, this show really made me wanna be part of this world and see their friend group 😭
Soul Eater holds a lot of memories for me back in the day. I was going through a lot when I watched it and I remember feeling like it was an escape.
Here’s a special and funny memory regarding it: One night I started having a panic attack at around 1 AM. My older sister (who had also seen the show) took me for a drive because those tend to help with my panic attacks. It was around Christmas time so there were Christmas lights everywhere. She was being her usual funny self and we’d picked up slurpees from 7/11 and were cruising our neighborhood listening to her Spotify on random. Then on comes a song called *ahem* ‘FSU’ by BigKlit. And the first thing I said was “Omg this artist sounds like Black Star in the Soul Eater dub…” and she legit had to pull over because she started scream laughing. The comparison is uncanny and we both found Black Star so annoying so this somehow made it better LOL!
Needless to say I’d forgotten all about my panic attack that night :,)

I think Soul Eater was definitely ahead of its time. For everything that may not have aged well, there are 3 other things that aged to be timeless. I can't think of a Shonen that was popular around the same time, that has a cast this stacked, with a female MC who kicks ass, and villains that are so fucking cool. The fact that black star isn't absolutely fucking annoying is a testament to the writing of soul eater.
We need a Soul Eater Brotherhood! After years of watching anime, Soul Eater still remains the top for me.

The Soul Eater anime we got was so good that I'm scared of what a remake would look like. Also I was interested to see what the reception in Japan was so I looked at some sites like anikore and it wasn't poorly recieved, but it also didn't get as much attention as others. Like it's below some new anime in lifetime engagement and it's way below the greats like FMA

YO! True! Aside from DBZ and Pokémon, Soul Eater was a memorable time for me. 1st time watching Bleach, AOT, One Piece & Spice & Wolf. Currently, watching Berserk 1997 for the 1st time I've known about it so why not watch.
