  • In this video I will show you how to take out the various interior parts you need so you can run your power and RCA cablesin your Audi A3.
This will be similar for other similar VAG vehicles including the MK4 Golf and Seat Leon.
This video is to give you an overview of what I have done, there are other options for running your cables should you so wish but this is how I have done mine to be mostly hidden.

You removed a bunch of stuff that you didn't really need to but I guess for ease of access it makes it much easier. Thank you for making this. It's been really odd to wire up this car with new speakers. The mounts are on the door cards which make no sense, they did learn and now with the later model the speakers mount directly to the door itself. Any idea on how to mount 6.5 inch speakers in the front... the documentation says their 5 1/4 but they look way smaller maybe a 4 inch i'm not sure. Just after a way to mount them... or would it be easier to buy a set of speakers for the front?

Hi, i have the same car as you, and i know this vid is a little old, but hope you can help me a little. I understood mpstly of what u were doing, but is it clever for me to change out the original speakers too? I just bought a 800watt sub so i gotta ask... the amlpifier will come soon.

    Hi dude.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but are those TT seats? The tip-up levers look like they are at the point where they back and base meet.
Please advise on fitting if so.
I got a glimpse at some point in one of your videos re the A3 8L
Cheers for the previous advice. Got my sound system fitted and all that

i am so looking forward to your paint job on the audi, because i got the same problems with mine and i just want to see how you are going to solve that :D

They are the next batch of videos out, I've got a crazy amount of footage from the paint work and had mostly edited ready for voice over but after an export I'm not happy with how I edited, I would of ended up with some very long videos not quite doing what I want.
I would really like to get these out next week if possible, I have limited internet too atm so if I can edit the lot (5-7 videos) I can put them up maybe in a week or so.

How long was the power cable you put in?

    Again, another amazingly informative video!
I'm trying to upgrade the sound in my 8L too, as I seem to have bought the car in a really bad shape (even the subwoofer was missing!).
For the start, I'm going to upgrade the speakers in the cabin, and install a small 6" woofer in the place of the missing OEM audi one, trying to use the same toybox amp that's already there. If that proves too challenging or a too crappy sound, I'll replace the amp for a (really) small SounDigital SD400, which should provide enough juice for the backseat speakers and a small woofer, while keeping everything inside the space used by the OEM sound.
BTW, how much trouble did you had in replacing the radio/head unit?
I read that it doesn't use none of the modern and standard plugs radios/HU now have, and some A3's even have a "killer" 12V spare cable in the mix, which may cause trouble if one is using those cheap and readily available adaptors. (yeah, I'm kinda scared of that :x )

    • @CarAndMechanical
      @CarAndMechanical  8 ปีที่แล้ว

The plugs will work for the front but the rears usually need rewiring which sounds like you've already got. If that's the case the remote signal is probably sorted - but if not you splice the front into the cabling then pick up in the boot.
You'll need a new cage and side fillers (check back in my older vids as I 3D printed mine).
When you mention the killer 12v spare I've not read about or come across that yet, do you have any info/references?

Okay, so that sounds exactly like what I had read elsewhere. The front door speakers are powered directly by the radio, while the backseat speakers are powered by the amp which also powers the subwoofer. It should be an "easy" mod lol
No, I do not have the wiring sorted yet, old owner did a really hard job in trying to burn down the car, splicing the OEM cables directly from the OEM sub, with hopes to power an aftermarket and probably many times larger subwoofer. :/
Yes, I know about the cage and the need for a frame to "hide" the extra space the OEM HU takes against standard 1-din units. For me, it will be easier to just buy these adapted frames, as I don't have access to a 3D printer nor the necessary skills to make one frame (or even spacers) in 3D to print.
I tried to find the source where I have read about the extra 12v cable that could cause problems, but I think I mixed it with something else.
I recall reading about a 12v cable that could burn VAGCOM scanners if they ended up in an adapter, but I'm not so sure anymore.
Anyways, I guess I'm gonna find the wiring diagram for the radio plugs and redo them when I finally change it.
Again, thank you so much for your videos. Keep up with the good work!! :D
