- Once the largest coal camp and operation in the world, the town of Lynch in the hills of Harlan County Kentucky recently celebrated its 100th Anniversary. Although the town has declined since coal production is not in high demand any longer, there is still a strength and resolve the people have to build their historic town back, and to once again make it come back to life. There was plenty of life there on Saturday, Sept. 16th, 2017, as the town folk took part in a Centennial Celebration. People from all over the nation ventured back home to see old friends, and pay homage to this town that sustained their families and helped build a nation.
