I've listened to a lot of versions of this song, and I think this is the definitive version for me. You hear the vulnerability in the beginning, which is needed and a lovely addition, and then by the end, you can hear her and see her getting stronger and more confident in her words.
Wow. Lucie sings this amazingly, and it is so breathtaking! I love her take and her interpretation of this song. I love how there are a variety of people who sing Kerrigan-Lowdermilk's songs, in which each contribute something great and fantastic to each piece.
Sometimes when I look at you, I don’t know why you’d wait. School girl in a little world Who learns everything late. I’ve always had all the answers Now I don’t have a clue Some nights when the clouds are thick, And the wind starts to blow. I stare out my window Wondering where I will go. I turn the light out Under the covers all I think of is you. Just you. Say the word And I just might listen. Say the word, And you might get your way. Loving you should be easier But say the word, And I might have to stay. Meanwhile there’s so many things That I don’t understand. I don’t know why I tremble When you reach for my hand. I didn’t know how to love Until you swept me away. Say the word And I just might listen. Say the word, And you might get your way. Loving you should be easier But say the word, And I might have to stay. I wanna love. I wanna ride. I want to be the girl There by your side. Just tell me when, Just tell me how. Tell me I’m ready now. Today. Say… Say the word And I just might listen. Say the word, And you might get your way. Loving you should be easier But say the word, And I might have to stay.
That's the thing, Lauren uses too much fry. In particular during the sustained "say". Unless the character is in a lot of anguish and the moment calls for voice distortion, a belt should be much more cleaner and open than what Lauren does. That being said, Lucie didn't hold that same note for as long as she should have and she had to take a breath. So I guess it's a matter of which mistake annoys you the most.
Musical theater and pop music have always gone hand in hand. Think about it. The musical theater songs of the 30s and 40s, and even 50s, for example, were also many of the "popular" songs of the day - that was the sound of pop music (even though to us now, those songs sound more classical). As pop (and rock) music has evolved, musical theater has as well. Who's to say that Lucie can't find a place in contemporary musical theater... I think she is a lovely actress. And that's ultimately the most important thing.

I swear she's a mermaid omg
I prefer the Lauren Samuels' version.. but anyway... we're talking about nothing... this is a perfect voice, soooooo clean!!
That's the thing, Lauren uses too much fry. In particular during the sustained "say". I can hear she has an accent in the beginning but not through the rest so much. great job so pretty
Does anyone know what key she is singing in
who is this song by?
Martha Allerton vienna teng written by kerrigan lowdermilk
Lucie is a great singer that's no doubt. I just don't think musical theatre is for her, she sounds too pop unfortunately.
