I just went big, did a full on metallic rooster on black canvas, trying to keep his hackles, tail and saddle pattern and colours correct, while using all metallics. Only needed white guache for the tiny bit of pure white on his ear. This is the only chicken my husband will allow in his new chicken free barn/shop. Was really fun.
Ohh!!! Really love this effect, Angela!!! Very beautiful abstract! I've always appreciated metallics and pearlescent paints and this is a lovely demo - thank you!!! I will be ordering some of these products!!! Hope you will display this little gem in a choice location in your home!!! 💖 Happy Spring to you, Angela! 😊
I very much enjoyed learning about the black ground. I may have to try it. I love electric iridescent blue, I have it, now I need to use it😄. Thank you.
Loved it .. Im a huge fan of metallic wc. And pearlescent as well as interference. Its way fun. I look forward to more. I also got mets and pearls in gouache! They reslly show up. One fave. Is pearl noir.. That is sparkly black! Keep painting!xo Onna.
Angela.....I enjoyed this teaching.....I've never thought to use a black surface....it looks so vibrant and bold. I'm going to try this too! Thank you.
This was amazing Angela! The effect was dazzling and convinced me that using a black background can produce wonderful results! Thank you once again for an enlightening lesson😊👏👏👏
Thank you for reminding me I do have a pad of black paper and metallic pints. I will be visiting Currys for the ground though. It will be fun to experiment.
Gorgeous painting....really enjoyed watching you paint it with such ease. I am off to buy some black watercolour ground and a wood panel tomorrow and try it. Thanks
Really enjoyed watching you paint this. The choice of colours and the fluidity of the piece is just mesmerizing! You make me want to try that black ground! Cheers!
Wonderful work Angela. Reminds me of Leonardos smoke test theory about light over dark = brighter! Sushi plate fantastic idea too. I use Watercolours in my underpantings. Oils on top. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes to you, Hugh. 👋
I was gifted metallic H2O colour for V. Day. Sich a great teaching tool for them, thanks. Can you make a lesson on night time hoarfrost on trees landscape with metallics?
This was really gorgeous. Love the blue it shines and shimmers beautiful. I like the black to. I'd like to see you paint an ocean scene. I couldn't find the one painting you talking about. 😞. Oh well. I thought this would be good to try some day 😊. Thanks for sharing. 😎
Thanks Angela. Several companies now make black watercolor paper. Would application be the same? Except for the possible slight buckling paper would have and wood doesnt.
I thought it might be interesting to smear the black ground in mix a little white and use those textures on regular paper or white. Maybe some of the black could be mixed as landscape affects with bright birds, bugs or made up creatures. Palette lives are fun. 🤗
I love this! I just ordered the black watercolour ground and I can't wait to use it. I'm wondering what method would be good for sealing a painting on panel.
@@angelfehr Thanks so much Angela for your reply. I did watch that lovely video you are referring to and you used cold wax medium for that painting which I also have used. I enjoyed using the black watercolour ground I purchased and painting on it with my acrylic inks. My concern re sealing my finished painting with cold wax medium would be that it might dull the luminescence of the paint. I must get daring and experiment and see what happens.
Thanks for sharing another fun watercolor video! Can you please share any tips or tricks to applying watercolor ground? I have not been able to make a smooth surface with out lumps or brush marks when I try to apply ground.
Lovely, Angela! I have white watercolour ground, can watercolour paint be added to it to make it a different colour? I have used the white even on plastic and was able to paint on it. It would be nice if I didn’t have to buy a whole new jar to have black.
Thank you! I get really sparkly for the winter holidays and see some gorgeousness happening after this lesson. I've found that sometimes silver betrays me and looks 'dirty' when the light isn't hitting it the right way and have learned to be cautious with it. I have a few Tsukineko water-based inks, including metallics and a frost, bought totally on a whim. Do you know if water-based ink plays well with water color paint?
Could you paint on yupo, in the near future?! A dragonfly, on this black watercolor ground, with that blue would look sensational, yes?! I think I will try that ... one day. There is so much stuff to play with, isn't there?! Or maybe you could add some crackle paste or texture paste with a stencil, for a mixed media piece - I love making very textured mixed media pieces. I need to make more hours in a day first, however! Wish me luck!😀
Love the abstract with the Black ground.. Thanks, Angela

Wow......myself not much of an abstract person, but this is just stunning and I can't stop looking at it. Lovely!! Thank you for sharing it!
Love the black watercolor ground, I have only used the white. Shopping again. Thanks for the demo
Just learnt about watercolor ground here and excited to give it a try. Such a beautiful painting

Love this. I was just gifted with Stonehenge black watercolor paper and some handmade metallic paints. Looking forward to trying it. Thank you

I love your work! Especially interested in metallic on black paper.

This was one of my favorite playful experiments last year! I need to do it again!
Fehr paints metallics on a black ground... funsies!!! 🤯😁👏 This was so good!
Fantastic !
This looks so fun! Love metallics! Love what you created.
Absolutely beautiful Angela. You have ignited my desire to work with abstracts. Love your work.
Excellent lesson- you answered exactly what I wanted to know, and inspired me in a new direction as well. Thanks!
This is so beautiful, Angela. I just love how shiny those colours look on the black watercolour ground. Thank you for sharing.
I love this technique!!
This is so fantastic! I love loose paintings :)
Gorgeous!
I would love to see some more loose florals because thats usually what I paint, although not as loosely as I’d like.
That is gorgeous! Looks like lots of fun!
Lovely painting Angela, thanks for sharing!
Now, I’m going to try this out! 😀 I have all the materials at home now! It’s gonna be so fun!
Thank you for reminding me I do have a pad of black paper and metallic pints. I will be visiting Currys for the ground though. It will be fun to experiment.

That turned out really beautifully! I want to try painting with a black watercolor ground! :-)
I love the way your paintings turn out so beautifully. Those colours look amazing. Thank you. I hope to find some iridescent colours.
I love it!!!

I have a video about that! Look up "mounting watercolor on a wood panel" and it should pop up.

What brush are you using?
Amazing video btw🌺

Sanding the watercolor ground after it is dry helps. I also dilute it with a little water if it is too thick.
WOW! I am looking for a recipe for black watercolor ground.
Amazing, thanks for sharing 🤗👏👏👏

I have used water based inks with my watercolor - absolutely you should go for it!

How do the iridescent paints hold after a some time before fading or loosing the shimmer ?
Interesting. Please what brushes are these?
would I get the same result on my Legion black WC paper?
Forgot to ask you....can pearl x powder be used instead of the aqua bronze?
@@angelfehr ok.....will try it!
Wait!! Where did you get that divided plate?
It was a gift - a friend saw it at the thrift store and thought of me!
❣️
Thank you. Beautiful creation and your words in the email are so true and helpful. A happy-go-lucky child is always a good thing. :o}
you just answered my question..
