Oh my gosh, this has always been one of my favorite of your OLP episodes. 10:46 in particular had me in tears when I first saw it and I still have to go back and watch it over and over again while cracking up over it.

This movie still captures the spirit of Johanna Spyri's original idea and her romantic approach. Beside being considered the "poorhouse of Europe", Switzerland and its people appear as the simple but likeable remains of a dying pre-industrial age in a late 19th century. Heidi's time in the Hessian metropolis Frankfurt am Main highlights the difficult but not entirely bad relationship between the Swiss and their German neighbours as well as Switzerland's political role in Europe in general. One thing that was weird was, that Bruno Ganz played Heidi's grandfather with a Standard German accent like the Hessian characters, while all of the Swiss actors spoke with their native accent. NO, wait. This was this CREEPY DOG MOVIE, right?? :O

I preferred the 1974 anime. Yeah, they changed some parts of the book, but it’s a lot more entertaining and fun compared to Heidi 4 Paws (The creepy dog movie)! Even the 2015 CGI remake is far better than this!

Omfg thank you for the Princess Gwenevere reference. I loved the show when I was a kid but couldn't remember what it was called but the moment I saw the pic of the title screen the theme song popped into my head and I was dizzy with glee. You always talk about the things I'm trying to remember more info about, thank you so very much!

12 years on , this is still odd. I'm not sure what child this was made for. This was supposed to be first of a series adapting classic stories.

Wishbone didn't have horrifying CG lips! They just went with the voiceover and dog's acting!

This reminds me of another immensely stupid "animals in costumes" show I remember from my childhood: "Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp." As you can probably guess, it was a spy show, but with chimps dressed in silly costumes. Of course, this was before CGI, so they couldn't animate the chimps' mouths like they do with the dogs here.
Also, was that William Schallert doing the narration? I don't see him listed in the movie's IMDB entry, but it sure sounds like him.
Well, the filmmakers must have taken a particularly potent batch of LSD to make this...seriously, what the fuck?!

I guess people who like Heidi...and dogs. I don’t know those with that specific niche just marathon Heidi Girl of the Alps and Sherlock Hound at least you get the amazing ness of Hayao Miyazaki

Apparently the Alps have an invasive species problem(raccoon, snowy owl, grey squirrel, grizzly bear)
Apparently the Jp. version of "Yo-Kai Watch" includes characters based off the rich family's servants, "Sebastian" and "Rottenmeyer", seeing as the story was popular over there and had an anime series. However, they're called "Verygoodsir" and "Got It Maid" in the English translation. :/
Heck, maybe just track down the anime series.
The Heidi anime was so popular that they pretty much referenced it in Yo-Kai Watch? That’s actually interesting!

I do think the idea of this movie is a good one, but yeah, the CG just looks so fake. Watch the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore for how to do good CG in live-action films, people!
