First Movie I ever produced and shot in 35mm. This was meant to be shlocky and hokey, and the budget was almost nil. Yet the experience was great! Many of the crew went on the do major Hollywood work. The DP worked on Oceans 11, I won Sundance and was nominated for an EMMY, and Yuki has done serious Hollywood work, (He had just arrived in America with nowhere to stay, so he remained with Clayton during shooting.) Clayton Prince gave a lot of people a chance and we ran with it, so thanks Brother for believing in us.
So apparently the guy who plays Shinji Hagiwara (Yuki Matsuzaki) has gone on to do actual film work! This is the second credit on his IMDb page, but after this he's done actual Hollywood stuff as well as voice acting. He was in Letters from Iwo Jima (an Oscar-winning film) only 3 years after The Black Ninja. Talk about a career taking off. Clayton Prince, on the other hand... Well, let's just say he hasn't been in anything that won an Oscar and most of his filmography is before this movie.
Hey, don't forget me! I have produced hundreds of TV shows, (Not Listed on IMDB) this was over thirty years ago! Nominated for an EMMY, I won Sundance and many awards for film production. This movie was the jump point for a lot of people and I am proud of that!
I'm pretty sure this is when I started watching your reviews. Your reviews have really evolved through the years(I mean that in a good way) and I'm glad that you're still going. What was the hardest movie to sit through for a review?
The motorcycle was already called "Ninja", as in the late 80s through, I think still in production through early 00s, Kawasaki Ninja. And now you know something.
this was made in Philly I remember being on set 1 night haha a stunt guys named the smoke used to shop at comic shop i ran and invited me to come out. what a mess
pick one. I have a background in film. and the stunt guy is a nice dude but I just remember us all smiling through our teeth then exploding in laughter on the drive home. Did not see final product till redlettermedia covered it and jogged my memory about that night.
The video quality looks like something out of the 70s or 80s. Honestly, makes it more tolerable to watch for me. Something about that slightly foggy picture quality helps, where as bad movies with clear video, especially ones with really empty dull sets, are just unpleasant.
0:59- I'll just stick with Daredevil then. Either the movie or the Netflix series. Take your pick. 7:42- Great, this movie is also ripping off The Punisher. Again, I'll stick with the movies and the Netflix series.
Damn, this film is a mess. The fight scenes are so devoid of skill. I believe the main actor has never taken a single class in any martial arts. Nice review, 2 minutes in and I hit the subscribe button.

This review and Razor Sharpe are among the best, Lupa!
Thanks!
This movie was 15 years ahead of its time.

I can’t tell if you’re calling the set/filming a mess...
Or the stuntman.

I knew that was smoke haha
i did another film with him YEARS back called LEAF. He played Jr seau
Can't believe its a '00 movie it looks like it was shot in the 70s 😂
That is exactly what we wanted!
And back in 2003 video stores were still a thing.
This DVD rented like crazy! It was one of the best sellers of the year, Facts!
Go Ninja Go Ninja Go
Go Ninja Go Ninja Go
Go go go go
"Ninja, ninja, crap!" (-The Cinema Snob, Miami Connection review)

This is like the Ben Affleck Daredevil movie without a budget.
The Todd cameo is amazing
Can’t believe this was made in 2003! Looks like it was made in the 70’s or something? Lupa how do you find these movies to watch?
Late night TV and the bargain bin of used dvd stores
I miss Guy From Harlem already

It's a good thing no one will be suspicious when a million dollars suddenly turns into the victims' bank accounts.
The lighting in this film is worse than "Disco Godfather". Which is bad seeing that film came out almost 30 years before this one!
Diarra Harris What has your lighting director had?!
I just associate that stock scream with Metalocalypse
The Howie Scream is everywhere. I associate it with Starcraft
Damn, this film is a mess.

18:45 - Anyone know the name of this song.
was that Heather Hunter in the flashback scene from 7:33 to 7:37?
According to IMDB and the British Film Institute, yes it is.
20:49 - Motorcycle helmet, jeesh
💜
Shinsuke Nakamura?
This is a worse transfer than a Godfrey Ho movie
7:34 Helen Hunter?
Pinicle lol
It's just like Daredevil...minus the creativity, good acting, sound design, writing, special FX, good fight choreography, etc. 😁
It's better than Daredevil.
You are so cute, trying to find sense in all these movies.
