I hope mine doesn't ever break.

From what I have seen on the net looks like this is a common problem. Well done!

Thanks for this, great troubleshooting! I just picked one up to use on tuner alignment (overkill!). The fan wasn't working so I replaced it. All attenuators seem to be working but I do see clipping on my scope at the positive portion of the output. This occurs at lower frequencies. By 5000Hz it is fine. As I'm using this for RF it's not a problem but would nice to fix. Perhaps a thermal issue happed before the fan was replaced. Any thoughts on where to first look? Admittedly this piece of gear is a bit daunting compared to what I usually work on.

How did the o-ring replace on the attenuator work out? Any video or
posing planned for this? I'm sure it must be a common failure as these
age but haven't seen any information on repairs.

I thought I shot some video of that fix, but if not I'll do that and post it! And replacing the o-rings seemed to fix the "sticky" attenuator issue nicely. I will see if I can find the info for where I bought the o-rings from as well.

Thanks that would be great. As these units age it just means the o-rings will fail. Barring over-loading it is probably one the key failure points - and it should be easy to remedy if you can find the right size o-rings.
