Dave instead of winding up the landing gear just dump your air bags then after you get under it and lock the king pin, lift them up to make sure when you do your tug test it’s the trailers brakes holding you back not just the landing gear. And it helps with releasing the first bit of pressure when you start winding up the landing gear. Stay safe from Australia.

They'll be on the sidewalk with their parents and their parents will be giving them the air horn showing them how. People don't exactly grasp how loud some air horns are. Like I used to work for a chicken feed company, old trucks, horns were so loud. I don't mean loud for an air horn I mean train horn loud. The roads we usually were on weren't roads that normal semi trucks go down. Some were so tight two cars couldn't pass each other on them so on some curves, hills, etc. you had to make sure nobody was flying down the road or else it was bad news bears. Anyways, the feed mill was in town and so when you went out to the highway you passed through a small residential area. Well there was this little boy and his dad walking down the road and traffic was moving slow, usually my shift started at 5 p.m so everyone was getting off work. The guy stopped and looked up at me to see if I was paying attention and just kind of looked at his son, tapped him on the shoulder and his face got so excited to see the truck. They started the signal and I mean they were giving it all they got to get me to pull that horn. I waved but was nervous because I knew how loud it was. I decided to just hit the city horn and he kind of got sad. I felt bad so I thought what the hell and letter rip. Buddy I tell ya I have never seen a look of excitement and pure terror on a kid's face quite like that. I didn't know whether to laugh or feel absolutely God awful. The kid then started smiling his dad waved at me and I think the car next to me shit herself because I started going at the light and she kinda just sat there for a minute like holy sheet 😂😂😂

Drop your airbags and give her that good old juice. You should almost never have to crank a trailer up, especially if you have lift assist bars on your frame of the tractor. I don't know if you've ever seen them but they're really freaking nice. It makes noticing a high trailer that much easier because you should almost always hit those bars before you get onto the fifth wheel. ( Side note, I don't know if that's the actual name for them. They are two flat bars one on each side of the frame that are angled up towards the 5th wheel and have like a small flat surface on the apex of them.)

He’s low on his time and does not want to take 15 minutes or so out of his drive to put in information that can be done in about two hours anyway. What if He hit traffic and that 15 minutes that he spent putting in the info could’ve been A buffer he could’ve used to get A truckstop safely and timely

Next time back in your trailer first and then slide tandems back doohhhh when you can and you could here. Also you can lower your airbags to get under it and if that doesnt work then raise landing gear. There is so much to trucking especially in my field of flat bedding.

Go get your cdl, either from a school or pay for training.(I never went to trucking school), learned from my step dads business hauling excavation, construction equipment/ dump trucks. So I learned & practiced, go take your road test. Once you get a cdl you apply for jobs, it’s mostly going to be grunt work your first 6 months-1yr. It will be a mega carrier like swift, cr England, prime, western express etc. put your time in as a rookie/ new driver. Take your time & watch what your doing. Take it slow. Ask for help, other drivers will help you. most company’s want 1 ur experience at least. Most small or medium sized insurance companies won’t cover you until you get 1 year experience. You may get lucky if you find a mom & pop trucking company that will let you learn the ropes or a local farmer. Once you get 2 yrs experience you basically can get any job you want. Owner op, company driver, team driver, hazmat, heavy haul, flat bed, reefer or whatever you want to haul. Keep your driving record clean, keep your piss clean & your golden.
