  • In this weeks video, I'm coming at you ON LOCATION from Depot. I'm here for a week of training, and where better to record a video about Depot... FROM Depot?!
    The world of Depot has with it, tons of unknowns... the last thing I'd ever want to do is take anything away from YOUR experience (if you're planning on being here).
    All that being said, here's me telling a little about my own experience and a few things on what to expect.

    Thanks for your videos! I'm leaving for depot next week and couldn't be more happy to watch these to sort of calm my nerves as I get closer to my start date.
    Did you find the environment at depot similar to a military boot camp or was it more of an adult learning environment?
    Also, might be an odd question but do they take all the cadets in the troop to get a buzz cut or do you have some freedom of choice?

    • @RealCopsReelLife
      @RealCopsReelLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh that's exciting! Glad you're watching... hopefully, itll give a little "realism connecting" with you.
      The environment is a mix of booth. It's not as "military" as it once way, but theres still a lot of paramilitary elements to it.
      The hair... it's your call:) just will have to be kept neat and tidy.

    By reading some of the comments and watching your vid I can safely assume that the experience at Depot would be a mirror image of BMQ (Basic Military Qualification) training with the CAF. I am at the polygraph stage with the RCMP and currently looking to get a troop number assigned soon :) . I finished my BMQ and can tell you this sounds almost identical !!

      Hey Joe,
      Thanks for hanging out.
      That's a VERY tough thing my friend. There's no easy answer. A saying that is HUGE comes to mind "Short term pain... long term gain"
      Also, stay as connected as possible while at Depot. It's often more difficult for the spouse staying at home. The cadet is very busy, and ultimately, has less time to dwell on things. So, do your best to keep communication WAY open and fill them in, even on seemingly small things.

    I'm currently completing the progress to get myself into Depot, I have a question for you, let's just say someone is struggling in Depot, if it's the learning the march, or if it's understanding the classes, will the teachers help you grow and help you achieve what you're having trouble with?

    • @RealCopsReelLife
      @RealCopsReelLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well done my friend on making your way into Depot - Solid choice.
      To answer your question, YES!!! There is a fantastic facilitation team who will work with each cadet. Everything is done to help you be successful:) Good luck with it all

    • @killerbing11
      @killerbing11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, honestly, they won't. It's adult education, meaning you are pretty much on your own. You have to use your troop TO BETTER YOURSELF. If your troop sucks and don't like helping then you are screwed. Marching/ drill is horrible and when you mess up they punish you by punishing the whole troop. This in turn easily makes the struggling ones struggle more. It's a depressing place if you struggle with leaning or are in bad shape.

      No. Depending on the facilitating staff for each troop, you may have pool time, but not a necessity to know how to swim. The pool does offer an alternative cardio sessions though :)

    Depot doesn't have to be hard, per say, could be eye opening and benificial, not fun, and it's not meant to be fun. You are learning fighting and survival and lawyer skills so you can keep the public and yourself and the RCMP name safe. However, this is what you learn quickly week one: There's a right way to do things, a wrong way to do things and the RCMP way to do things.
    Yep, that says a lot. So even though you are doing things right they will crack you hard because fuck what the book says, we want you to do it the RCMP way. The place is confusing, the punishments are over the top, the stress load can't be managed and that's done on purpose. They want to see how you handle failure and not just failure but failure and shame. It's very culty there. Good example: One guy forgot his shooting cap for class and instead of maybe making him clean up a ittle more at the end or having to make sure the chairs are pushed in at the end of class this poor guy was made to wear a pink cowboy hat until someone else messed up.
    Another example is the driving. They will beat you down and shit on you one week, then the next they are talking to you about life. And then beat you down again just to see how you handle it. It's all bi polar with the facilitators. It's a mind fuck.
    They are very much into zeroing in on those struggaling and then getting the troop to hate then, very full metal jacket.
    If you want to be a cop then just know the training at depot is more cult like and focused on the glory of the rcmp and not causing problems for the organization. You will come away with feeling really underprepared and that's because you are.
