It's worth noting that the first two lines you start tracing are coming from the high altitude compensator, which isn't present on most 22r carbs I've seen. Most have those lines plugged on the carb side with black stoppers. The HAC was a factory option, one that supposedly didn't work very well. Cool to have, but it'll be missing for lots of people. This is normal.
Great content especially for these old vacuum controlled engines. I was hoping yo see the installation of the fuel pipes. I think I should have mounted them BEFORE installing the intake manifold. They weren't screwed in before I did the valve job ant I forgot to get a good look before I reinstalled the intake.
Omg thank you for this video. I've been combing the Toyota manual for my 87 extended cab, looking at the vaccum system but the pictures are in black and white and are damn near impossible to see any detail or know what you're putting where.
Thank you for this video I had been searching for a long time on the internet until I came across this video thanks to you I fixed the key on my Toyota 87 before with a mechanic and it left it all unstable thanks to you I was able to fix it well thank you and God bless you
Thanks, I had to take my head off and when it came to putting all the pipes back, I couldn't remember so nicely, so now I'm going to double check my pipes, but you have a few extra pipes and valves. Some of your extra pipes must be for speed cruise.
The Toyota hilux one if the simplest most reliable vehicles ever built by Toyota except for the carburetor and all its vacuum lines l wish l could remove them all but l can't in N.S.W Australia we have a yearly regestration inspection and if anythings removed its an instant fail
U dont maybe have a wiring diagram that could help to wire the sensors of the carb because i have to rewire mine because the mice bit through everything and cought almost fire
Thankyou, sincerely. I think I have the same book but the drawing leaves a lot to be desired. Did I miss the 2 in the bottom of the air cleaner container? I’m trying to figure out what the diaphragm in there does?? Any idea? Pretty sure my float level is to high and the choke isn’t working properly. Left side flap is just staying closed. Occasionally it is very inconvenient with a no start condition
Great great video! It will help me a lot, I’m having hesitation issues in my recent bought truck and this is soooooo helpful! What’s about a grounding wiring video? The ground I have in the firewall has the terminal broken and I’m pretty sure it’s going to the engine, but where? I’m worried too bc I read somewhere that the EGR has one too, I want to make sure it has it connected right Could you be that kind to record another one relative to the Pickup grounding? Thanks
Years ago I would have loved this video. I ended up pulling most of the hoses, after getting tired of trying to keep them all working good over the years, and went de-smog. Best decision yet. Have two 81' 22r sr5's now that are more reliable, run cleaner and stronger like this. I will add that where I live, the emissions aren't as strict as places like California or some other states.
I plan on doing something similar as I'll mostly be using the truck off-road. I figure I should make a video while the hoses are still attached. The 22R engine is a blast to work on. Getting those hoses and canisters out of the way would be the icing on the cake.
Did the same, then moved to a place where it’s all required for a visual component to an emissions test. If you de-smog, I hope you save the parts- wish I had!
@@matthewschampion For sure, I have a habit of saving old parts in crates anyway. These parts are trash though. I will not need smog on these trucks ever again. In my situation, it made more sense to have a reliable, simple setup. The octopus hoard of hoses I pulled out was not helping anything and the engine wouldn't even idol with it all hooked up.. The desmog kit is the way to go if your place of residence allows. A truck that needs the whole emissions done is going to be a nightmare. At that point, you could turn it into a strictly off-road vehicle.
Anyway i can get a look at the linkage on the back side of the carb? I just got a 82 pickup and there is loose linkage everywhere i would like to make sure i get hooked back up right.
I think you have the market cornered for this year and carburetor type. There is a huge void for data pertaining to vacuum lines on a 86 22R. Worst part about it is how finicky this engine is for tuning process!
I created this channel due to this exact reason. Couldn't find any decent info without digging through pages on yotatech. A lot of views comes from Mexico and Saudi Arabia.
My '86 Truck w/ 22r is having idling issues, vacuum lines are suspect. This video is super helpful. FSM is grainy and lacking detail. Is there something particular about vacuum lines in an '86? I notice the one in the video has the high altitude compensator (the canister connected to the first two lines you start tracing). This is pretty rare, my carb, and most I've seen, have those port plugged on the carb side, even though it shows up in the FSM.
@@IsaacDozier1 my booster when out little by little yesterday when out completely it started shaking violently when I press on the brake I didn’t know the shaking had to do with the vacuum hose, replaced the booster today and man I even got more power it’s beefed up a lot more so if this info helps hey y’all welcome.
can someone help me , giving me the route for the advance and retard ignition for the distributor ? my 2.4 came without any vacuum lines, and i'm having a hard time finding the order of the ports on the carburetor for the vacuum spark advance on the distributor thanks in advance
Gday mate, I was hoping you could help me with the app valve on my carb. The car was running very rich and mixture screw bedded had no effect. I disconnected the aap vacuum and it was obvious fuel was getting straight into the intake. With it disconnected it runs smooth no spitting no black smoke. Question is can I just plug the line and cap the aap or will this cause other issues? Thanks joe.
I wish i could give you an answer. I honestly have no idea. I suggest researching over at Yotatech.com If you are advanced enough with searching on google at specific websites, it should be easy to fin some good info from the source. Tip notch information. There are also good 22r facebook groups and reddit is also a good source.
Isaac Dozier thanks mate, I found a forum that said you can just plug it. I ordered a rebuild kit that has a aap diaphragm in it and just parked it up till that arrives. Thanks for all your vids they have helped me a lot with fixing up my 22r. 👍
22RE? There are a couple potential places to look for the diagnostics port. All you need is a paper clip. There is a diagnostic box on the passengers side near the fuse box in the engine bay. If you don't have a diagnostic box there, check the drivers side, next to the coil.. there should be 2 or 3 plugs (maybe leading into the fender). Find the one with 2 wires leading to it, that's gonna be your diagnostics port. www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/index.shtml 22reperformance.com/faq-diagnostic-info www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/cant-find-diagnostic-connector-99187/ www.vadriven.com/forums/tech-talk-9/help-1988-toyota-pickup-489226/
Isaac Dozier on my recent video you quoted the comment saying my noise is from the serp belt tensioner, however the noise i have continues when i have the serp belt off? Any idea what it could be?
Isaac Dozier thank you! Acura said they replaced the water pump (they warrantied it out after their service) however it didnt help. They said their techs couldnt find the cause of the noise. Since its only at idle when the car is in park/neutral and you can barely hear it they said it was fine and to leave it. They also put the shim in too and no change lol

Yes, that would be very helpful for a lot of us older Toyota p/u lovers/ rebuilders.
