Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem.
Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis sempiternam requiem.

Blessed Jesu, Lord I pray, in thy mercy grant them rest.
Lord our God, we pray thee, grant them everlasting rest.
Visions and Rutter Requiem
John Rutter's latest major work Visions is a four-movement showpiece for solo violin, string orchestra, harp and choir of treble voices, based on the theme of Jerusalem, the Holy City of prophetic imaginations. It was composed at the invitation of the 2016 Menuhin Competition and premiered at a Festival concert in London's historic Temple Church by Kerson Leong, winner of the 2010 Junior Menuhin Prize, and the Choristers of the Temple Church. They are joined by the Cambridge Singers and the young and vibrant Aurora Orchestra.
Rutter's Requiem has enjoyed immense popularity since its premiere recording in 1986. 30 years on, John Rutter takes advantage of advances in recording technology to revisit the work with a new generation of Cambridge Singers.
John Rutter, English composer and conductor, is associated with choral music throughout the world. His recordings with the Cambridge Singers (the professional chamber choir he set up in 1983) have reached a wide global audience, many of them featuring his own music in definitive versions. Among John’s best-known choral works are Gloria, Requiem, Magnificat, Mass of the Children, and Visions, together with many church anthems, choral songs and Christmas carols.

We sang this at All Souls Mass last Sunday and it was, of course, sublime.
Well done (here) to choir and soloist for this lovely rendition.
Shivers down my spine, lump in my throat, tears in my eyes - all because of the finest, clearest, youngest soprano soloist one could ever hope to hear. Wonderful!
Rutter, when performed badly, can be sentimental glop. This is perfection.
How can someone come up with this amazing piece of music!
Beautiful light bell tone soprano ❤
Beautiful...Big fan of Rutter!
To God be this Glory and all we have more
Crystal clear ice.voices with a touch of brilliance 😀😁😂
I’ve been practicing this on violin with piano accompaniment for church. This is a gorgeous song.
I want to hear it!
Soothing.....
So lovely...
This is simply one of the most beautiful musical compositions and recordings I have ever heard. I bought the recording years ago and have listened to it many times; it is truly a masterpiece. As a Communion Meditation (with translation) during the Funeral Mass, it has helped countless faithful grieve the passing of their loved one, hearing the angelic music and the comforting lyrics appealing to our Savior that the deceased be granted eternal rest--rarely a dry eye in the Church. I pray this recording may continue to bring comfort to all who still struggle with grief and loss.
Translation: Two simple lines taken from the ancient Latin hymn ‘Dies irae’, dating back to the 13th century; some sources say it originated much earlier in the 6th century with St Gregory the Great.
Pie Jesu Domine,
Dona eis requiem aeternum/sempiternam.
Pious (merciful, sweet) Lord Jesus,
Grant them eternal/everlasting rest.
Caroline Ashton wasn't even human, she had such control of her voice. This gal is pretty amazing, too. How could anyone follow Caroline?
Hi Thomas. I agree that it is hard to get past Caroline Ashton and Donna Deam, the two original soloists in the first recording. They were utter perfection. Alice Halstead is also incredible.
Faure for ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pie Jesu Domine
Dona eis requiem
Requiem aeternam
Sempiternam requiem.
You're very good and Rutter is really brilliant. My choir sang Candlelight Carol during one of our last performances using a new arrangement. Write this in the search: you will surely like it.
Corale Novarmonia - Candlelight Carol (J. Rutter)
This is a wonderful recording... but is a bit strange... so much reverb yet so digital for the solo vocals... the two seem almost juxtaposed. I still prefer the original recording with City of London Sinfonia, Cambridge Singers, Caroline Ashton, Donna Deam, Patricia Forbes.
