Good Afternoon Hamm Family. Lauren, I pray you had a wonderful Mother's Day 💐 So glad there was no flooding. We came close with all the wind and rain of late. We had a false alarm when the wind knocked our flood alarm over on a particularly rainy night. Sorry Mark's trip got cut short. My Mark and his brothers will be leaving soon for their annual kayaking trip. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate ☀️ I was wondering what the best time of the year is good for visiting Alaska. I like temps 28°F to 74°F... nice weather, no bugs, some sunshine, a cool breeze on warmer days, snow but no blizzards, and so on 🏞️ A big NO to mosquitoes... gagging on one is worse. That one that landed on Mark... that wasn't a mosquito... that was an evil Vampire Dragon... Nope nope nope 🙅🏼♀️ A good bonfire is always fun. We too have to keep track of ban warnings. Luckily, the fire station is a mile up the road... plus, it helps to have a retired Firefighter as my Hubby. He also watches the wind direction so as not to smoke out our neighbors. Some of the bonfires are huge 🔥 Hi Mark. Lots of busy work going on here too, both at our property, my brother-in-love's (Jon) property and my nephew's (Travis) property. That's a lot of gravel. Do they recycle it? The guys will be ordering gravel drops at some point, then smoothing it out... repurposing the driveways and some trails leading to the lower property where our Family Campouts are held 🏡 I love hearing and learning more about the bees. So happy they are doing well. How long do bees live? I've heard the queen can live a year or more, but the workers only live up to 30 days. What happens to the other bees when the queen dies? Do they accept a new queen without issue? Loving the bee sign 🐝 Citywide cleanups are an awesome idea. Here in Virginia we have "Adopt a Highway" and other organizations. The AAH posts a sign on the roadside with the name of the organization or persons involved in the cleanup. When Bry was younger and I more mobile we participated via our local 4H Club and Homeschool Group 🚮 Congratulations Everett. So happy to see you join the Family at the end... always where there is food and treats. I'm a barefooter too: "If you're not barefoot, then you're overdressed" 😊 I love seeing Weston's smile over something as simple as a car wash. Adorable 🥰 I know the boys are excited to go bike riding, especially Hunter with his new bike. I was a bit surprised to see a hoverboard... Go Bennett Go. Mark is one proud Papa. The love he has for his boys is priceless 😊 Y'all amaze me with your full summer calendar. I can't wait to come along on your adventures and memory makers. New slogan for Alaska: "Don't Swallow the Bugs"! I live in a similar area with long winters, we just came out of it and all our snow is long gone. Our temps are still flip flopping with nice days and cloudy cold days and nights. Our dandelions just popped up this past week and the bugs are flying about in the sun. On your magnetism to mosquitoes: lf you give off more carbon dioxide (breathe heavier) they will target you.
We just found out our big summer will be a massive move! From California to South Carolina, leaving all our family and friends. My husband got an amazing job so the next month for me is going to be chaos of purging and packing! Cats, 2 kids, and all the things accumulated over the last 4 years! 😅
I love that it's a family activity for clean up, teaches so many good lessons for when the boys have their own homes. There is a certain pride that comes with that. You enjoy the fun activities so much more when you put in the hard work first. Good to see you & the Family! Happy Spring Break Up! 🌷

Busy time, I book my time to switch when I put them on in November. Makes it easier with less fuss. Was shocking I could do our first cut on April 30th, we still had another light dusting..fun times. I understand it's a sugar thing that draws mosquito. Wearing white helps too. We can't burn already.. Enjoy!

This time of year the bees are pretty calm and mellow. Latter in the year they can get more aggressive and I’ll use a smoker. It also takes a long time to get a smoker going well and for quick inspections it’s not worth my time.

Bear meat can be very sweet. You have to get it at the right time, not when it’s been eating rotting salmon.

This time of year the bees are pretty calm and mellow. Latter in the year they can get more aggressive and I’ll use a smoker. It also takes a long time to get a smoker going well and for quick inspections it’s not worth my time.
