56:04 I take a trip in mid july from ohio to connecticut to see my husband, I have to travel with a mobility scooter due to swelling in my legs, i actually had an idea of doing a train accessible vlog because i didnt see many if anyone doing a vlog for accessible riding.
Bc of watching your videos I recently got to ride on a train from my where I stay to Baltimore to visit my best friend and got to see Janet Jackson for the 1st time! I had an amazing experience bc of the tips your videos gave me. Thank you I can’t wait to ride again!
Hi i know it's late but i really enjoy you all s content on the Amtrak. Our family are going on Silver Star from D.C to Orlando fl. In June then from there we are going on our 1st MSC Seaside cruise. I pray that that ship as improved things on there take care pam&gus from Md.
Yeah all the trains in DC look alike and it seems easy to get on the wrong one. Boy the food was good. I asked the attendant once and he did have checkers for the board. I never saw a toilet in a roomette before. Being old I would love that.
I love the ride on the Crescent heading north or south, especially in a Roomette. It’s been a few months since I’ve traveled up to NYC via Amtrak. This video prepared my spirit to go book a trip for October. My home station is Atlanta, also. Love your channels, Allie and Rob.
I concur, was very disappointed on my last trip on Amtrak, been traveling in a roomette since the 70's, going from north to south I wanted to experience eating southern food, but only microwaved food was available, which was not tasty. I expected better since I paid cash for the trip. This was an annual trip (from NY to Birmingham) so I would be on the train for 2-3 meals. Normally I love the train experience, but this time I felt ripped off. I just have to say, Amtrak, do better.
@@lucilleoneal3668 Well Amtrak’s food, flexible dining menu, is much better than what any domestic airline offers. Hopefully traditional dining will return soon on the East Coast routes.
Thank you for showing the trip up the east coast.. One question that I have every time I hear or see something on Amtrrak in the East. Fast, yes. On time, it's Amtrak, Food - when will the trains in the East go back to the traditional dining, with fresh food? Does anyone know yet?
Love seeing your videos, as they are so informative. Lynchburg VA that's where I am. I am thinking about taking a train ride from here to possibly upstate NY in the summer, but in the meantime I will keep watching your great videos on how it's done the Allie and Rob way. You two make it so much fun with endless possibilities!!!
Thank you for your videos, I live on new mexico in the lower right hand corner. My fiance lives in DC so I love seeing new country side. I'm hoping soon to move to DC and I hope to ride amtrak to his home city of New York. I have never been there and wish to see it before I die. Love watching you guys❤
Just completed a trip from Dallas to New York and back. Love Amtrak! Thanks so much for the videos and thoughts you share with us! They truly make a difference! Considering where to relocate to on the East Coast. 🥰🌺
I love your videos,I will be taking a trip on Amtrak with my 92 year old Mom in September in a roomette, looking so forward to the trip and can’t thank you enough for all the information you have shared! I feel like I know exactly what to expect ,we will be going from St.Louis to Charlottesville Va.'! Thank you again!♥️🌺👍
Love the down-to-earth and partner sharing on your videos. Really enjoyed the Texas Eagle. Didn’t realize it ran out of LA as part of the Sunset Limited Consist. One of my sons mentioned this after traveling from St. Louis to San Antonio but I thought he was wrong. Loved that red brick train station in Culpepper, VA. It was awesome.
Have just completed a coast to coast bucket list trip! Cardinal from DC to Chicago then Empire Builder across to Portland. Thanks for your informative videos that I watched during our UK lockdowns to plan my trip when I could return to the US. I had an amazing time on the rails and can’t wait to start planning my next trip! Thanks again 😊
Love your Videos! Great choice on the fairfield. I stayed there last year after flying into NYC from Chicago. I then took the Silver Meteor down to Orlando to meet my wife at WDW.
We have only traveled on the California Zepher. I wish their roomettes were like the one you are traveling in because I am the one who sleeps on the upper bunk! Great video. Makes me excited for our next train trip!
51:58 Yes 💯. That $99 annual fee Amtrak Mastercard with that previous 40K bonus points offer, plus my Empire Builder/Coast Starlight/CalZephyr trip gave me easily enough points to book (soon) a free Texas Eagle/Southwest Chief roundtrip roomette from Chicago Union Station.
OMG. I live in Charlottesville and as you were coming in to town, I didn't even recognize it! That first area is around the UVA Health System (aka hospital). I've never seen most of those new buildings. I guess that's a good thing! Amtrak doesn't go through the most scenic part of our city but then again, I wouldn't want a train rolling through the beautiful University "Grounds". ☺ The station is near one end of our Historic Downtown Mall though (paved over Main Street years ago to make a "mall") which is really nice.
NYC - my city! I take the Crescent whenever I go to Atlanta and get a roomette. The Moynihan train hall is beautiful as is the Metropolitan lounge - hope you were able to check out the shops and places to eat. Great trip!
From my experience, there is no dedicated taxi rank at the ATL Amtrak station. You must call ahead for pickup. MARTA bus stops are close to but not actually at the Amtrak station (200yds walk south and across the street north). Too bad the planners couldn't figure out how to build a connection with the MARTA subway train. The closest one is a 10-minute bus ride to the Arts Center MARTA station. Hope this helps.
My first-ever ride in an Amtrak roomette was on the Crescent going from ATL to PHL for Thanksgiving before the pandemic. I appreciated having the toilet right in the room, and the only two times I left the room during the entire trip were to have dinner and breakfast in the dining car (which the train still had at the time). I remember having the most expensive item on the menu at that time, which was surf & turf! (Flexible dining is OK - I like the short ribs - but I hope the Crescent gets its dining car back.) The train left ATL several hours earlier in those days; today it would arrive in PHL too late to make it to Thanksgiving dinner!

I used to live in Atlanta, so I have taken that train to DC. One of my sons lives in DC. I now live here nearby and I take the train now up to Connecticut to see my sisters and they do the same by taking the train down to DC to see me. I was surprised because the price to come overnight from Atlanta to DC was just about equal to plane fare. I was also surprised to see a lot of working women, possibly housekeepers, who were going to see family and using the train. They were in the coach and they brought blanket and pillows to sleep overnight, apparently there is some theft there, or at least a rumor that there is in the overnight coach, so no one would leave a purse or anything valuable, where it could be quickly picked up. I’m saying that as a recommendation to other people who travel coach overnight. I do love train travel.
Thank You I love taking the the trains, two things I don’t like is the cleanness of them and prices, if they would improve on these two things more people would take the trains more often, I travel from Cleveland to Chicago, Chicago to El Paso to visit my sister in N.M. I don’t like that they removed the scenic car from the Texas Eagle that was a very bad move…so keep the videos coming u guys are an amazing couple happy travels ❤️🧳🎒🚂
Hello Allie and Rob - I'm not sure where best to write this question but since this is your most recently uploaded video I'm giving it a go! My question is, how far out in advance do you book your future travel? Do you have six months, a year, or more already planned out to make sure everything lines up? Any help on how to track and make sure things line up and how far out is best to book trains, flights, AirBNB's, cruises...would be greatly appreciated! Had another question pop up as my husband and I were watching your Canadian train ride...how do you deal with the change in weather as far as clothing? Do you have various changes for weather stored somewhere or do you buy new? I feel like I've watched nearly all your train videos and can't remember seeing a "what's in our luggage" video...as always, thank you for sharing your lives and how to's with us!
There is NO parking at the ATL Amtrak station. The location is extremely car incompatible with just a small drop-off and pickup area. Recommend you check the interwebs for public parking nearby.

Were you able to get to that "Seinfeld" dinner via foot or public transit from your train and if so would you mind sharing how/where? We love that show :) It's about enough to make us get on a train right now! Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks so much for this video. I found it really interesting as I’m planning my first Amtrak trip next year from Atlanta to Washington DC. I live in the UK but am planning to ride a rental Harley motorcycle from DC to Atlanta and then take the Crescent back to DC to fly home to the UK. I’ve never been to Atlanta before and expect to arrive late afternoon with several hours to kill before catching the train. I wondered if there are any restaurants nearby Peachtree Station, it didn’t appear to be centrally located when I checked. Alternatively is there anything at the station, I noted it is open several hours before the train departs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the videos🙂
The High Museum is maybe a 15 minute walk from the station and there's also the Contemporary Art Museum nearby. I would recommend going to Colony Square for dinner, it's maybe 10 min uber ride from the station in the same direction as the museums. Rumi's Kitchen is very popular if you like mediterranean food but there are other options around the same area
Hi you guys... I agree with you that the Viewliner car roomette has much more room up top and more room to storage space in general. I also appreciate having a bathroom and sink in the room, unlike the Superliner car roomette , not so super! And Rob, your cost that you mentioned for your trip...I have an Amtrak Credit Card with lots of points. I've figured out that each point is worth .028 cents. So your trip that you said cost 21,000 points actually would have cost $588. Just compare that with the stated fare in cash for the trip and see if you actually saved money. Sometimes, the point value is not worth the use of those points. I always check. Finally, The Metropolitan Lounge at Monihan Hall is the best Amtrak lounge. Puts all other Amtrak laughs to shame.
@@fayeclark7800 Amtrak's Metropolitan Lounge is in Moynihan Hall at Penn Station New York City. Ask anyone when you get there. If you have a pass to enter you are going to not believe the experience...unbelievable.
So, you mean it was available at the coffee station in the sleeper car? Or, you made a request of your car attendant, who brought it from the diner? Appreciate the previous response!
Unfortunately, the Bose sleep buds are unavailable on Amazon, and I think Bose has discontinued them due to poor battery life. Do you know of alternative sleep buds? Thanks for your help!
We tried Amtrak in April, Chicago to Salt Lake on the California Zephyr. Frankly we thought it was pretty awful. Rough tracks, bad food, cars in need of a serious updating and the roomette was a joke. You guys make it all sound wonderful when it really is just the opposite. The crew was friendly but that is about the only positive thing our group agreed on. You paint one picture of an Amtrak experience but actually taking a trip on Amtrak paints an entirely different picture. Fantasy versus reality.
Everyone has a different experience and they are just sharing theirs. I took Amtrak from San Francisco to New York at around the same time as you and it was the some of the best days few days of my life. Just because you had a bad experience doesn’t mean that’s “reality” for everyone
@ Grounded Life Travel...Hey guys love your videos! Rob do you use wifi hotspot when working or using your laptop, if so what do you recommend? I travel Sunset Limited often and wifi is horrible.
Hey I'll be honest the only reason I've been watching you guys on TH-cam is because I have some health issues and I sleep a lot other than that I've been in bed for a couple months but I'm usually up running around now when I lived in Miami I would take Amtrak from Miami to Savannah Georgia to meet my cousins all the time but I had a destination and going to see my cousins but just to ride the train to see old broken down houses and buildings and manufacturers most of what I'm seeing on your videos is ugly now granted I had fun on the Amtrak but like I said that's cuz I was going to a destination but I don't see how y'all enjoy just sitting almost on a machine and the only place your walk into is to the dining area that would be so so boring for me and I know y'all enjoy it and we all enjoy different things in life Batman y'all go on a lot of train rides have you ever thought about growing on cruises
As a New Yorker, I always enjoy watching people from other places enjoy the city.

Too bad you didn't show Lynchburg. It's a really cute train station.
Are you planning any family trips?
Hi again. Wondering if you guys are considering or would consider putting together a small travel group?
Allie is doing Women's trips in September. There should be more next year, as this year's are already full.
@@GroundedLifeTravel Great. I'll be on the lookout!
@ Grounded Life Travel...Hey guys love your videos! Rob do you use wifi hotspot when working or using your laptop, if so what do you recommend? I travel Sunset Limited often and wifi is horrible.
Is there any long-term parking at the Atlanta station (doubt it, but thought I'd ask)?
There is very little parking, and no long term. we always get someone to take us.
I've been to Atlantas Amtrak station.... small. They need to expand. But loved the trip to and from DC.
Red rock is the best Gingerale
Is there a dinning car on this route
Yes there is, but not traditional
One of those meals is more than I eat in a day - and I am 6'2" tall and weigh 220 LBS!
By lunch on the first day, we’re there any fresh-air breaks after you had left Atlanta?
Does this route have WiFi?
Not to be rude, but, do you guys work? - Or do you just go on vacation?
As a New Yorker, the highline is the biggest much ado about nothing attraction in New York City.
Thank you for another great video! But I could do without the nails-on-chalkboard plate scraping ~50:04. OWIE! 😖
😅😅😅😅😅😮😮😮😮😮.
Change the music for each scene there are beautiful sites and should be treated differently
